Discharged from hospital

Discharged from hospital

Zhou Junchang was discharged from the hospital a few days after being transferred to a regular ward.

Normally, patients with knife wounds like this need to rest for at least a month or two, but Zhou Junchang insists on being discharged.

Because of this, Xu Li and Zhou Junchang had a long cold war.

One day, when Xu Li returned from getting food, the two were eating when Zhou Junchang mentioned it without warning.

"I will be discharged from the hospital in a few days."

His expression was flat and expressionless, as if he were saying, "This dish is a bit salty."

Shouldn't this kind of thing be discussed beforehand? Xu Li has taken care of him for so long, so at least she should have told him in advance. But now Zhou Jun has made such a big decision in the most indifferent tone. Xu Li can't understand why.

"Discharged from the hospital?"

Zhou Jun often shoveled a few mouthfuls of rice and said, "Mmm."

"Why? You're not fully recovered yet, why are you in such a hurry to be discharged?"

Zhou Jun continued stirring his rice with his head down, unwilling to look at Xu Li. It seemed that this decision was already a done deal, and there was no room for wavering.

"You've only been in a regular ward for a few days. You should be resting and recovering in the ward now. Mingyue doesn't need you to do anything..."

Xu Li suddenly stopped midway through her sentence. She knew she couldn't change Zhou Junchang's decision, but she didn't know why he had made such a decision.

Xu Li wasn't in the mood to eat, so she waited for Zhou Jun to finish cleaning the rice and go out to wash the dishes.

Zhou Jun was often alone in the ward.

Only he knows the reason.

After overhearing Xu Li and Zhou Ji's phone call outside the ward, Zhou Jun often called Zhou Ji while Xu Li was away.

Zhou Junchang didn't have his phone on him, and when he asked Xu Li for it, Xu Li warned him not to play with it for too long.

Zhou Jun often turned on his phone, and instantly a flood of messages popped up: some were from people who had invited him for drinks before the accident, some were asking about his injuries, and others were from people whose phones were out of credit...

Zhou Jun didn't care about these things. He opened his contacts and dialed the number.

Zhou Ji was somewhat surprised to receive the call. He inquired about Zhou Ji's health, and the two exchanged a few pleasantries.

In fact, Zhou Ji knew that Zhou Jun's purpose in calling was not so pure. Even if it was just a simple greeting, the patient should not call.

There's only one reason then.

Because of Xu Li.

Sure enough, the other end went straight to the point: "Xu Li, what's the matter?"

"You didn't ask her yourself?"

It seems Xu Li hasn't figured out what to say yet, so Zhou Junchang is unaware of this. Unable to get any information from her, Zhou Junchang has no choice but to turn to Xu Li himself.

However, this was ultimately someone else's business, and he couldn't interfere too much. He advised Xu Li not to leave without saying goodbye, and even if Xu Li did leave in the end, he couldn't say anything.

Leave some room for maneuver, and stop short of revealing the truth; the rest is up to fate.

"Do you remember what I told you before your accident?"

My thoughts drifted back to that day, when dark clouds filled the sky.

Looking back now, it seems like it was hinting at something.

"Um."

Xu Li is leaving.

"It's still the same, except I don't know when."

So, are these last few days the final countdown?

Xu Li said she would talk about it after he was discharged from the hospital. Does that mean she really will, or will she disappear one day after he wakes up?

Once the injury heals, is it a genuine promise or just an excuse to back out?

Zhou Jun felt a thousand pounds of weight on his heart, and his voice became hoarse from the pressure: "You don't know either?"

"Junchang, give Xu Li some time. You have more faith in her—"

The phone displayed a low battery warning, and the call was forcibly disconnected.

The screen was black, reflecting Zhou Junchang's face.

Zhou Jun often trusted Xu Li, but he was even more afraid, afraid of the many uncertainties.

It was like that phone call that suddenly told him Xu Li was leaving, like the two of them suddenly meeting at the corner, like those people who barged in, like him lying in her warm embrace and slowly calming down, like her hot tears sliding down her cheeks...

It is precisely because there are so many uncertainties that we don't know whether the next moment will bring good or bad.

He was afraid it would be too late, so he wanted to be discharged from the hospital because Xu Li had said that she would tell him when he recovered.

They need to have a serious talk.

However, he didn't know that being discharged from the hospital was just self-deception; only he himself knew whether his injury had fully healed.

In other words, Zhou Junchang acted impulsively. Whether he was cured or not could not be judged solely by whether he was discharged from the hospital. But at that time, he was determined to do something so that he could not just wait like that.

However, Xu Li was not stupid. She was very angry about Zhou Junchang's decision to be discharged from the hospital, thinking that he was playing with his health. Seeing the nonchalant way he said it made her even angrier.

Zhou Jun always knew Xu Li would be angry, but he never expected the two of them to have a cold war.

On the day of Zhou Jun's discharge, Xu Li dropped him off downstairs and then stormed back home.

Liu Zhoujun often stayed in the same place alone.

After being discharged from the hospital, the two never contacted each other again.

In fact, it was a one-sided cold war by Xu Li.

Zhou Jun often knew that Xu Li was angry, but he didn't know how to explain it to her, as the matter itself was difficult to explain.

Zhou Ji said to give Xu Li some time, and he himself wanted to give Xu Li some time as well, but he was really afraid.

This lingering fear made him tremble with anxiety for the next few nights in the hospital, but he didn't say anything. He wanted to see Xu Li next to him before going to sleep, and the first thing he did when he opened his eyes was to look for Xu Li.

It was precisely because he was in the hospital that he did nothing and felt uneasy about resting and recovering.

The night he returned home, he called Ah Feng.

Ah Feng knew that Zhou Junchang hadn't used his phone while hospitalized, so he paused for a moment when he saw the caller ID and tentatively called out his name: "Junchang?"

"Um."

"What's wrong? Why are you calling?"

"I've been discharged from the hospital."

The sound of a wine glass falling over came from the other end of the line, the clinking of glass, accompanied by a muffled voice: "When were you discharged from the hospital? So fast? You've already recovered?"

Zhou Jun was too lazy to explain further and simply agreed, "Mm."

"Where are you now? At home?"

"Okay, no need to come over. Just keep a close eye on Xu Li these next few days..."

"Huh? Oh, okay!"

Zhou Jun often lay in bed, his wounds still throbbing slightly.

When processing the discharge certificate, the attending physician pointed at Zhou Junchang's forehead and cursed, "I don't know what you young people are thinking, always causing trouble! If you're so capable, why don't you just not stay in the hospital? Let's see how tough your body can be then!..."

Xu Li stood to the side, thinking to herself, "If only I could scold him back."

Seeing Zhou Junchang's indifferent reaction, the doctor continued to Xu Li, "You people, don't you even know how to advise him! Do you think you can just do whatever you want! What's the use of crying and begging when your health fails one day!..."

…………

When Zhou Jun thought of Xu Li again, he didn't know how to start the conversation.

He was discharged from the hospital, but it seems he won't say anything or offer any explanation.

Xu Li returned to Tian Guang Hall, and no one knew that she was about to leave.

Although Zhou Junchang had been discharged from the hospital, he was still aware of his own physical condition. He didn't force himself to go to Mingyue Night. For him, it was basically just a change of scenery to recuperate.

The doctor said he didn't take his health seriously. In the past, that might have been true; youth was the most valuable asset. But now, Zhou Junchang has become somewhat afraid of losing his life.

Why?

Because the future in the distance seems to hold promise and something to look forward to.

Because Xu Li went to Tian Guang Hall, the news of Zhou Jun's discharge from the hospital also spread in the bar.

Many people saw Xu Li asking about Zhou Junchang's condition, and Xu Li gave lukewarm answers. However, after a while, she remembered how indifferent he was to her health, and she felt angry again.

Since I didn't see him on a moonlit night, he must be at home.

Fortunately, she had the self-awareness to not bring her injured body to Mingyue Night. If she had run into him at Mingyue Night, Xu Li would have really been able to slap Zhou Junchang twice.

Thinking about this, Xu Li also worried. She had been taking care of him at the hospital; could he manage alone at home now? How would he manage meals? Did he know when to take his medicine? Did he know he couldn't drink cold water? ...

She was angry, worried, and also thinking about how to tell him about leaving...

With a deafening roar, the sky seemed to be split in two.

By midnight, almost everyone on both floors had left.

Xu Li was lost in thought and forgot the time. She quickly packed her things and prepared to leave.

That night, Duan Ruiming called.

Sooner or later, there would be such a phone call.

Knowing she was leaving, Xu Li waited for Duan Ruiming's call.

The night was eerily quiet, and my phone kept vibrating, seemingly tempting me to open it.

Some things you just have to face.

...

He hesitated before speaking, "Xu Li?"

"It's me."

Hearing Xu Li's reply, Duan Ruiming knew that Xu Li might have really come to her senses, and he felt relieved to speak.

"There's been so much going on lately, I'm at my wit's end. I heard from your boss that you're planning to come back, is that right?"

"..."

"Really, I can't leave here. Otherwise, I really wanted to go to Yangcheng, but my superiors have already sent people over. Let's do it as soon as possible; we don't have much time here..."

"……knew--"

Xu Li knew Duan Ruiming's idea; he wanted to get her to surrender herself in time, and he was indeed thinking of her best interests.

However, in his heart, he was already inextricably linked to this case.

The call was brief.

On a stormy, early morning street, Xu Li thought of Zhou Junchang again.

How exactly should I say goodbye? How can I avoid feeling sad?

The wind was so strong it hurt, like a knife mercilessly cutting my face.

Xu Li's face was wet, and it was hard to tell whether it was rain or tears.

Walking along in a daze, Xu Li happened to see Ah Feng opening his door as she passed by his house on her way upstairs. She quickly wiped her face, not wanting him to notice her, and went upstairs with her head down.

Ah Feng watched Xu Li go upstairs, and then heard the sound of doors opening and closing upstairs. Hesitantly, he dialed a number.

In the early hours of the morning, the phone beeped a few times before being answered.

"Jun Chang, do you need to come over here? Xu Li, she... seems to be... crying..."
