Chapter 22 Pei Yumin, if you help me today, ...

Lu Shangyan received the fish soup that Pei Yumin had brought on the way. It was still warm. Pei Yumin's cooking skills had always been good. It could be said that, in his limited memory, it was the best meal he had ever eaten.

But the moment the lid was opened, his brow furrowed involuntarily. The soup was clearly fresh and fragrant, but he lost his appetite the moment the aroma reached his nose.

But he barely ate any dinner because Pei Yumin was delayed on the way and was more than ten minutes late getting home. Afraid of being late for work and getting fined, he didn't wait for Pei Yumin to come back, just slurped up a few mouthfuls of instant noodles and left.

He was drooling when he received the thermos, but now the heat made him feel full and even a little nauseous.

Lu Shangyan didn't want Pei Yumin to have worked for nothing, so he tried to hold his nose and drink it down. Besides, the soup looked very nourishing, but he just couldn't get the bowl to his mouth. Instead, he kept taking it further and further away from it.

Pei Yumin has always been confident in his cooking skills. The last time he made a late-night snack for Lu Shangyan, he had already finished half of the food by the time he turned the corner after walking down this street. Today, the situation was obviously different: "You don't like fish?"

Lu Shangyan was about to say no when Pei Yumin contradicted himself: "That's not right. The day before yesterday, when I made steamed fish, you ate more than half of it by yourself. When we first moved in together, I made fish soup once, and you ate it twice."

At that time, he didn't dare to get too close to Lu Shangyan. After Lu Shangyan finished eating at noon, he took the initiative to clean up the leftover food. He didn't think much of it and went to work. When he came back in the evening, he found out that Lu Shangyan had left the fish soup and reheated it to cook instant noodles.

Bringing up the old story again, Lu Shangyan shook his head a little embarrassed: "Just smelling it is enough to fill me up."

He couldn't help but wonder if Pei Yumin had really spoiled his palate.

Pei Yumin waited at a traffic light: "If you don't want to drink, that's fine. What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you when we get back."

Lu Shangyan lowered the car window a little, and once the air started to circulate, he felt better: "No need, this is fine."

He drank half a pot of soup, ate three pieces of fish, and covered the rest again: "I'll use this to make noodles tomorrow morning."

Pei Yumin smiled and said, "Then I'll go buy some noodles later, we're out."

He didn't really approve of Lu Shangyan eating instant noodles all the time. Since he was home, Lu Shangyan didn't need to eat such unhealthy food. If he wasn't home, Lu Shangyan wouldn't cook, and he was afraid Lu Shangyan would blow up the kitchen and hurt himself. Only under these circumstances could Lu Shangyan eat instant noodles.

Lu Shangyan, unusually, did not refuse, nor did he feel it was too much trouble for him. After eating and drinking his fill, he leaned his head against the car window and fell asleep.

This time he didn't sleep too soundly and only woke up when he was almost home. He sat in the car for a while before he came to his senses.

He wasn't like this before. He was incredibly healthy. Even in the winter, when it was snowing, he would jump out of bed the moment the alarm rang in order to study for an exam.

When he got off the bus, his hand unconsciously went to his stomach again, as if it had become an instinct for him.

Lu Shangyan glanced down, and Pei Yumin followed suit. Once he looked down, he couldn't look away. He was afraid that Lu Shangyan would lift his clothes up to show him again and ask him some strange questions, and he would miss this "golden opportunity".

No, no, no, it should be that I was afraid of missing the chance to answer Lu Shangyan's questions.

This time, however, Lu Shangyan didn't lift his clothes. He just touched his stomach through the fabric, smoothed out the loose fabric, and showed it to Pei Yumin, revealing the outline of his belly: "Don't you think my belly has gotten a little bigger lately? Have I gained weight?"

Pei Yumin was hoping he would gain weight, but not only did his face not gain any flesh, he actually looked thinner. He was afraid that Lu Shangyan would lose weight because of this, so he quickly said, "No."

So Lu Shangyan stopped talking. After getting on the elevator, he started thinking that there was less than a month left before the final exams. He had finished many of his part-time jobs, and he would have a lot of free time and be able to settle his wages. Then he would have the time and money to go to the hospital for a check-up.

He also noticed something was wrong with his body and was afraid that he had a tumor in his abdomen. He had to find a way to save enough money so that he wouldn't be short of money for surgery.

-

Lu Shangyan was preoccupied and tossed and turned, unable to sleep. After a while, he felt chest tightness and nausea. He couldn't lie down anymore, so he simply sat up and read a book. His major didn't really allow him to cram before the exam.

But now I can't even read in peace, so I went outside and moved a small stool to sit on the balcony to enjoy the breeze.

Pei Yumin's bedroom is near the balcony, and he didn't turn on the light so as not to disturb his sleep.

Pei Yumin bought this little stool a week ago. He has planted a row of flowers and plants on his balcony, and he sits here to loosen the soil when he has nothing to do. The height of this stool is just right.

Having nothing else to do today, he took over Pei Yumin's work.

Halfway through the work, Pei Yumin suddenly opened the door and came out. He originally thought that he had woken him up when he was throwing soil. Just as he was about to apologize, he saw Pei Yumin tiptoeing to close the door and then walking out quietly with his back bent.

As I was leaving, I accidentally bumped into a dining chair and muttered a curse under my breath. Then I quickly slipped to the entrance and cautiously began to open the front door.

The phrase "developing stealthily" inappropriately flashed through Lu Shangyan's mind. He often heard it when he listened to his classmates playing games in the classroom. He was even thinking that when he had money, he would buy a new phone that could be used for gaming and see why they said that. He never expected that the phrase would be used on Pei Yumin first.

He stood on the windowsill and watched as Pei Yumin ran downstairs. He then ran towards the front door like a monkey just released from its cage, limbs flying everywhere.

He didn't drive. Lu Shangyan knew he couldn't go far, so he stood by the window to watch him. But he hadn't run far before he was blocked by the residential buildings in front of him, so he had to squat down again to loosen the soil and water the flowers.

He hadn't finished his work when Pei Yumin came running up again. This time, he stood at the door and looked inside before he saw Lu Shangyan on the balcony: "When did you get here?"

Lu Shangyan gestured to the chair that had been knocked out of place. Pei Yumin understood, but he didn't think there was anything wrong with his crazy behavior just now. Instead, he proudly moved the chair over and sat down next to Lu Shangyan: "I thought I did it perfectly, just like a secret agent in a novel, without even waking you up."

Lu Shangyan's expression stiffened: "Just how many CEO romance novels have you read?"

Pei Yumin started thinking seriously: "From junior high school until now, I've been secretly watching it whenever I have free time, so I can't remember anymore."

Lu Shangyan opened his mouth wide, but couldn't utter another word.

Pei Yumin smiled and took the basin from his hand, filled it with water and continued watering the flowers. Although it was not the right time to water the flowers, it was obviously more important to be with Lu Shangyan.

Lu Shangyan leaned against the wall, stretched out his legs, and sat watching him work. After examining him, he suddenly couldn't help but blurt out, "It's almost eleven o'clock. What were you doing running out there just now?"

Pei Yumin was running around so happily just now, and he really wanted to know who Pei Yumin was looking forward to seeing that made him so happy.

Pei Yumin was so excited by Lu Shangyan asking him where he was that his brain couldn't process anything: "My parents came to see me. I was afraid they would disturb you, so I had them wait at the door."

“They brought a lot of things, and I was afraid that bringing them in would wake you up, so I put them all at the door first.”

Lu Shangyan pursed his lips, watching Pei Yumin's eyebrows lift happily as he spoke. He realized that Pei Yumin's relationship with his parents must have improved.

He was temporarily "kicked out" before because of a falling out, but now...

Even in the darkness, Lu Shangyan's eyes remained bright, even brighter than before: "So, are you moving back?"

His voice was damp, and Pei Yumin realized something was wrong. His upturned lips immediately flattened: "I'm not going back."

He tried desperately to explain: "My mom just said that I've become much more independent since I started living on my own, and she doesn't want me to move back in."

Seeing that Lu Shangyan was still in a low mood, she squatted down next to him, stared into his eyes, and asked him half-jokingly, "Besides, if I move away, are you really willing to let me go?"

After he finished speaking, his heart started pounding. He regretted saying those words to ease the tension.

To everyone's surprise, Lu Shangyan didn't shy away from her gaze this time: "No."

After saying that, he paused and added in his mind: Actually, there is a little bit.

Seeing Pei Yumin laugh out loud, he added, "If you have a home, you must cherish it. You'll go back sooner or later."

Pei Yumin retorted, "This is our home, can't I even go back here?"

His heart started beating even faster.

What kind of questions are these!

She stared intently at Lu Shangyan, afraid that he might be displeased.

Lu Shangyan's expression remained completely unchanged. He stood up and went back to his room, though he moved slightly incoherently.

-

Lu Shangyan suffered from insomnia again. When he went to school, he had dark circles under his eyes and looked extremely tired.

Pei Yumin was worried and originally wanted him to take leave and rest at home, but he refused. Pei Yumin couldn't persuade him otherwise, so he drove him there himself.

There were many people around, and Lu Shangyan was afraid that people would see him and spread more "scandals," so he stopped at the intersection on the other side of the road.

He had a half-eaten bun in his mouth, and his schoolbag was slung over one shoulder. Inside were his textbooks and the nutritional milkshake that Pei Yumin had forced on him, telling him to drink it during class in the morning.

But as soon as he entered the gate, Baozi was knocked away.

Just like last time, the only one who would dare to touch his food is Chen Shuo!

However, this time he was accompanied by a graceful and elegant woman who looked very young. If it weren't for her clothes and appearance, which could vaguely reveal her age, Chen Shuo, with his old face, would have thought that this woman was his sister.

Chen Shuo pointed at his nose: "Mom! It was that bastard who slandered me!"

"What a petty person! They came knocking on my door so quickly, they couldn't even wait a day." Lu Shangyan sneered, not wanting to argue with an idiot, and tried to walk past him.

However, they were stopped by the bodyguards brought by Chen's mother. Chen's mother had a dangerous smile on her face: "What you did yesterday has seriously affected Xiao Shuo. I guess there must have been some misunderstanding between you and him. How about we find a place to have a good talk? It's better for both you and Xiao Shuo."

Her words, a mix of threat and concession, were perfectly articulated. However, Lu Shangyan wasn't stupid; he knew that if he really went with her, he would likely be "skinned alive" when he returned.

He planned to wait until a large crowd gathered before making his escape.

Before he could even calculate a suitable escape route, his wrist was grabbed: "Talk to me if you have something to say, don't look for him."

Lu Shangyan glanced to the side. He had handled many things on his own before, even risking his life. When Lu Lin was about to strangle him, he never thought of asking anyone to save him.

But now that Pei Yumin is standing beside him, the warmth from his palm reminds him that relying on Pei Yumin occasionally might not be so bad.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and he let out a long sigh: "Pei Yumin, if you're going to help me today, you have to help me to the end."
