After Wanru finished her medicine, Geng Youran stayed with her for a while longer. When he saw that it was already completely dark outside, he realized that he had been there for quite a while.
"Look at me, I've talked so much and kept you from resting."
"Sister, what are you saying? If you hadn't come, I'm afraid I would have gotten stuck in a rut again."
Geng Youran stood up and called Huang Li:
"Take good care of your princess. If you need anything, feel free to contact me."
Afterwards, Geng Youran gave Wanru a few more instructions and then left with his entourage.
Back in her room, Geng Youran stretched and then sat back down in her chair.
"Princess, aren't you going to sleep?"
“Wanru lost so much blood at once. I’ll check the book for any blood-replenishing foods and write them down so I can make them for her.”
"Princess, you are so good to Princess Wanru."
Geng Youran smiled but didn't say anything.
She can be quite stubborn and inflexible at times.
She still cherished her friendship with Wanru. Although Wanru had schemed against her this time, she had also helped her many times.
Moreover, she even dug out her usual medicine jar this time, so Geng Youran felt there was no need to blame her.
"Alright, you don't need to stay here with me anymore. You've been through so much with me these past few days, you must be tired. Go home and rest early. Oh, and if you're up early tomorrow morning, remember to soak the red beans."
Qianxue knew she couldn't go against her master's wishes, so she placed the ginseng soup beside Geng Youran and went back to her room.
After finishing the ginseng soup, Geng Youran continued to peruse the books in her hands. When she saw the "Four-Substance Decoction" recorded in the "Formulary of the Bureau of Imperial Medical Services for the Benefit of the People", she had an idea. So she wrote down all the ingredients and prepared to make it for Wanru the next day.
Sitting back on the bed, she blew out the candle beside it, but Geng Youran wasn't sleepy at all.
She was somewhat bewildered.
She arrived here in a daze, married a prince, and gave birth to a son. The schemes and plots of the women in the harem were beyond her comprehension.
My initial decision to stay was based on the belief that I would be able to live a stable life from then on.
However, it seems likely that disputes will continue to arise in the future.
She was anxious about it.
Thinking of this, Geng Youran couldn't help but smile bitterly. What was she doing? Was she being 'emo in the middle of the night'?
After the initial worry, anxiety, and unease, her life had to go on.
My mind wandered to all sorts of random things, and then I drifted off to sleep in a daze.
The next morning, Qianxue carried a basin of water and a towel into the room and found that Geng Youran was already awake, but he did not get up. Instead, he lay flat on the bed staring at the pattern above his head.
"Princess, why didn't you call for me when you woke up?"
"Why did I call you? I've only been awake for a short while and was too lazy to get up, so I thought I'd wait for you to come. Anyway, we don't need to pay our respects to each other anymore."
Qianxue smiled helplessly and said with a doting expression:
"I think the happiest person about the Fujin's confinement is not Princess Niohuru, nor Consort Li, but you, because you don't have to get up so early anymore."
"You brat, how dare you tease me. Fine, I'd better get up. I'm going to be busy this morning."
Today, Geng Youran plans to make a set of "Three Red Cakes" and a Four-Ingredient Pork Rib Soup to nourish Wanru properly.
She originally wanted to use black-boned chicken, but remembering the unique taste of the black-boned chicken she had eaten, she felt that pork ribs would be better.
The three red ingredients in "San Hong Gao" are red dates, longan, and red beans.
"Qianxue, take out the red beans you soaked, and then remove the pits from the red dates and longans."
Geng Youran blanched the pork ribs.
After processing the raw ingredients, Qianxue steamed them in a steamer. Once steamed, she mashed them into a paste. Then, she added a small amount of brown sugar, beaten eggs, and flour to the paste and stirred it into a batter.
Brush a layer of batter on the bottom and sides of the mold, pour the batter into the mold, and sprinkle some white sesame seeds and walnuts on the surface as a garnish.
Place the mold in a steamer and steam over medium heat for half an hour.
Meanwhile, Geng Youran blanched the pork ribs and then rinsed and drained the Chinese medicinal herbs such as angelica, chuanxiong, rehmannia, and white peony root before setting them aside.
Add cold water to a pot, then add the prepared pork ribs and Chinese medicinal herbs.
Pour in rice wine, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for one hour.
“I can finish making them. Qianxue, you keep an eye on things here. I’ll write down the recipes for the desserts and the soup so I can give them to Wanru later.”
"yes."
After Geng Youran returned to her room and finished writing, the nannies who served Hongli and Hongzhou brought the two little princes over.
"Oh, Hongli and Hongzhou are here!"
"Greetings to (godmother)!"
Now, the two little ones not only walk steadily, but also bow in a very proper manner, which makes Geng Youran utterly adorable.
"(Godmother) hug me!"
The two little children walked up together and clung to Geng Youran for a hug. Geng Youran couldn't lift them with both hands, so she carried Hongli in her arms and Hongzhou on her back.
"No manners! Get down here!"
Just then, a male voice came from the doorway, his deep voice unable to conceal the doting tone in his words.
When the two little children saw their father arrive, they started struggling in Geng Youran's arms and on his back again.
Geng Youran laughed and scolded:
"You little rascal, you forget your mother as soon as you see your father. Your Highness, I greet you with my best wishes."
Yinzhen waved his hand, indicating that Geng Youran did not need to be so polite.
He bent down and gently patted the two children's heads a few times, then straightened up and looked tenderly at Geng Youran:
"You've taken very good care of these two children."
