promise?
With the help of Liang Jiugong and Wei Zhu, Yinzhen struggled to his feet. He had overheard his father's conversation with Liang Jiugong.
He didn't believe that Yinzhen had actually persuaded his father, the Emperor.
But Yinzhen didn't care about that. He stumbled out of the Hall of Mental Cultivation, forgetting even to kneel and pay his respects.
Liang Jiugong returned to Kangxi's side and saw that Kangxi was tired with his eyes closed.
"Liang Jiugong, you said Yinzhen, he..." Kangxi didn't finish his sentence. Liang Jiugong simply pretended not to hear him.
As Yinzhen ran, his leg strength gradually returned. He ran faster and faster, wishing he could fly.
"This servant pays his respects to the Fourteenth Prince."
"Get up and open the door."
The two men guarding the door turned to look at each other, and one of them said:
"Fourteenth Prince, we are afraid we cannot comply. Please do not make things difficult for us servants."
"Father has agreed! Open the door for me now!"
Yinzhen wanted to rush in, but was stopped by a voice behind him.
"stop!"
Wei Zhu rushed over, out of breath.
"Fourteenth Prince, you ran too fast. This servant was chasing after you, but you didn't even hear me."
"Hey, hurry up and get going."
Wei Zhu quickly took out the things the Emperor had given him.
"His Majesty has issued a decree allowing the Fourteenth Prince, Yinzhen, to enter and visit."
The two men stepped aside upon seeing the Emperor's decree, and Wei Zhu instructed them:
"Fourteenth Prince, this servant reminds you that you only have one hour. This servant will wait for you here."
"I understand."
Yinzhen straightened his clothes and went inside only after making sure everything was alright.
The courtyard wasn't overgrown with weeds as he had imagined; it must have been regularly cleaned. Surprisingly, the vast Yonghe Palace was completely silent.
He stood in the courtyard and shouted:
"Mother!"
Consort De, who was embroidering on the couch, heard the sound at the door. She threw her needle and thread on the ground and rushed out in a panic.
"Yinti? My son!"
Consort De never imagined that she would see her son again in this lifetime.
"You, how did you get in? Did those people at the door give you any trouble?"
As she spoke, she lifted up Yinzhen's arm and examined it, and Yinzhen did not stop her.
Only after confirming that Yinzhen was alright did she feel relieved enough to take his hand and lead him into the house.
"I don't have anything good here, but I dried some flower tea a while ago. It tastes pretty good. Let me brew some for you to try."
As she spoke, Consort De fled to the side room as if she were running away.
Yinzhen followed and said regretfully:
"Mother, please don't be in such a hurry. Father has only given me an hour. Please allow me to take a good look at you, okay?"
Consort De brewed some tea for herself and placed it on the table:
"Why would your imperial father allow you to come see me without a reason?"
Yinzhen's lips moved, but he still spoke:
"Father Emperor sent his son to Qinghai, and he will leave early tomorrow morning. Today, I went to Father Emperor to plead for permission to see you."
Consort De reached out her right hand and stroked Yinzhen's cheek.
"It's still my mother's son, Yinzhen, who is filial and knows to come and visit her. Unlike them, who are ungrateful."
Yinzhen recognized who Consort De was referring to and quickly spoke up:
"Actually, I was able to come here today thanks to my fourth brother. Mother, I shouldn't have said this, but before I leave, I still want to say that you were really wrong this time."
Consort De only felt that her methods were not clever enough and that she had not been able to deceive the Emperor, and she did not think she had done anything wrong.
Listening to Yinzhen's rambling and seeing the purses, shoes, and socks piled up beside him, she quickly interrupted:
“This is what your mother embroidered for you during this time. Wear it with you, as if your mother is by your side.”
Yinzhen took the purse from his mother and could vaguely see the fine lines on her hands:
"Mother, don't worry, your son will do his job well in Qinghai this time and strive to make meritorious contributions, and then ask Father to lift your confinement."
"Okay, okay, Mother is waiting for this day."
The two talked for a while. Wei Zhu was anxiously stamping her feet outside. Just as she was about to go in, she saw Yinzhen walking towards her.
"Oh my, Fourteenth Prince, you've finally come out."
Let's go.
Wei Zhu felt that Yin Ti's demeanor seemed different after he came out compared to before he went in.
About half a month later, Emperor Kangxi announced in the court that his fourth son, Yinzhen, would perform the sacrificial rites on behalf of Heaven.
The entire court was in an uproar. Could it be that the Emperor's true favorite was the Fourth Prince?
Opinions differed among the people, and Kangxi deliberately ignored their whispers.
"Court adjourned!"
Afterwards, Yinxiang followed Yinzhen back to the Yongqin Prince's Mansion.
"Fourth Brother, did you know about this beforehand?"
"have no idea."
Yinxiang was very anxious. Wasn't this pushing his fourth brother into a fire pit?
"Fourth Brother, what do you think Father Emperor means by this?"
Yinzhen was also somewhat uneasy:
"Let's leave this matter here and just focus on doing what Father Emperor has arranged."
In fact, Yinzhen also had his doubts.
When the crown prince was being appointed a few days ago, he was skipped and instead Hongsheng, the son of the third prince Yinzhi and the son of the fifth prince Yinqi, was appointed as crown prince.
"You Ran, why do you think Father Emperor did this?"
Geng Youran was so annoyed she didn't want to talk. This person knew her identity perfectly well, yet he always tried to trick her into revealing information.
Of course, Geng Youran was well aware of this, and didn't say a word.
When Yinzhen saw that Geng Youran did not give him an answer, he did not make things difficult for him. However, for the next three days, Geng Youran was helped by Qianxue to walk.
