Chapter 147 Heartfelt Intentions

"What happened?"

"This humble servant greets Your Highness."

Nian Yunrong hurriedly got off the couch to greet Yinzhen.

What are you doing?

Just as Qingyan was about to speak, Yunhui spoke first.

"Your Majesty, I saw Consort writing poetry last time and thought her handwriting was very beautiful, so I came to ask for her guidance."

"Yunrong, is that really true?"

Nian Yunrong pursed her lips and didn't say anything.

She didn't believe Yun Hui was trying to help her out. Don't think she didn't see Yun Hui's deliberately aggrieved expression just now; she was clearly trying to sow discord in front of the prince.

After Yunhui finished speaking, she even deliberately rubbed her wrist.

"Gao Wuyong".

Yinzhen called out "Gao Wuyong", and Gao Wuyong quickly stepped forward and handed the letter in his hand to Nian Yunrong.

"Master Nian, this is a letter General Nian sent to you from the front lines. Please keep it safe."

Upon hearing that it was sent by her own brother, Nian Yunrong's expression immediately changed.

"Your Highness, is my brother doing well?"

"Don't worry, he's fine."

Nian Yunrong nodded in relief.

Everyone knows that swords and spears have no eyes on the battlefield, and she didn't want anything to happen to her brother.

"Alright, take your time reading the letter. Yunhui, let's go."

"yes."

Nian Yunrong wanted to speak, but was tugged at by the green smoke behind her.

Yunhui followed behind Yinzhen with her head bowed and eyes lowered.

"Qingyan, why are you stopping me? Yunhui is obviously just playing the victim in front of the prince."

"My lord, since you know that Princess Yun is just pretending to be pitiful, please don't make things difficult for her in front of the prince. Otherwise, you'll anger him."

Nian Yunrong sat back on the couch dejectedly, losing all interest in reading the letter.

After Yinzhen and Yunhui returned to the courtyard, Yinzhen first had Gao Wuyong fetch the ointment, and then instructed Yunhui:

"If Consort Nian summons you to copy books again in the future, you should refuse if you can."

Yunhui pitifully tugged at Yinzhen's sleeve, nestled cautiously against his chest, and whispered:

"But that's Consort Nian, how could I refuse? Besides, Consort Nian meant well."

Yinzhen then gently patted Yunhui on the back:

"You're so naive. Those ledgers on the table are from several years ago, you silly girl."

"That......"

Before Yunhui could finish speaking, she buried her face in Yinzhen's arms, feeling wronged.

Gao Wuyong and Xique, the head maid who served Yunhui, had already retreated outside the door.

For the next few days, Yinzhen stayed overnight at Yunhui's courtyard.

"Princess, it seems our Prince has really taken a liking to Princess Yun. You've been claiming to be ill for so long, yet the Prince hasn't come even once."

That day, Geng Youran was idly practicing calligraphy when Qianxue was grinding ink beside him and chatting with her mistress about Princess Yun.

"What are you saying? Do you think I pretended to be sick so that the prince would come and see me?"

"Isn't that so?"

Geng Youran raised her head, glared at Qianxue, and then lowered her head to continue copying the calligraphy. Only after she had finished copying the entire piece did she put down her brush.

He took the tea Qianxue offered, drank a few sips, and then spoke:

"I claimed to be ill simply to get away from certain people. As for the prince, he has legs, so he can go wherever he wants."

"Hiding? Princess, who are you hiding from?"

Qianxue couldn't believe that there was someone in this mansion that her princess was trying to hide from.

Geng Youran shook his head speechlessly, thinking to himself that Qianxue had been with him for so many years, yet she was still sometimes clear-headed and sometimes confused.

Having no other choice, she had to patiently explain to Qianxue.

"This Consort Yun is a troublesome woman, and her personality isn't as cheerful as Wanru's. I naturally don't want to have much contact with her. Besides, there are many women in this manor who dislike her, and some of them want to use me to get rid of Consort Yun. Rather than being used by others, it's better to get away from her as soon as possible."

“But Princess, if you do this, even the Prince won’t come.”

Geng Youran put down her teacup, picked up the calligraphy brush beside her again, and said before putting pen to paper:

“If Your Highness’s heart is not here, then I would rather he not come at all.”

She knew that Yinzhen's heart couldn't possibly hold only her as a woman; such a scenario of exclusive favor was simply a luxury in ancient times.

Instead of fighting over that heart, it's better to just focus on being special.

This way, neither of them will get tired.

Now that Yunhui is here, she feels she can finally breathe a little easier under Yinzhen's watchful eye.

The entire conversation between the two was overheard by a man standing at the door.

Yinzhen overheard the entire conversation between the master and servant from the doorway, and he didn't know how to describe his feelings after hearing it.

He had been spoiling Yunhui for so many days, partly because Yunhui looked like Song Shi, but also because he wanted to test Geng Youran's attitude.

But he didn't expect Geng Youran to be so calm. While everyone else wanted to tear Yun Hui apart, she was still leisurely practicing calligraphy here.

Gao Wuyong, who was behind Yinzhen, was also terrified. He thought to himself that this Master Geng was too audacious and dared to say anything.

After a while, the master and servant heard the faint rustling of clothes coming from the study. They guessed that Geng Youran had probably finished practicing calligraphy and was preparing to rest. Yinzhen then waved to Gao Wuyong, signaling him to speak.

"His Highness has arrived!"

Geng Youran and Qianxue quickly arrived at the door:

"Your Highness, may you be blessed."

"Get up."

Geng Youran gave Qianxue a look, signaling her to go down and make tea for Yinzhen, while she herself stood behind Yinzhen and took the initiative to massage his shoulders.
