Chapter 79 Self-Awareness

"I heard Yunrong called you over today?"

"Yun Rong? Who is Yun Rong?"

Geng Youran didn't immediately recognize the name.

Qianxue, who was busy serving dishes, quickly gave Geng Youran a look before she realized what was happening.

"Oh, you mean Consort Nian? Consort Nian said she got some fine tea today and invited me over to taste it and have a chat."

Did she mention Nian Gengyao?

Geng Youran nodded straightforwardly.

Yinzhen remained expressionless, while Qianxue, Xiao Anzi, and Gao Wuyong, who were standing next to him, covered their mouths and chuckled.

The expression on Master Geng's face was so straightforward, it was full of helplessness towards Consort Nian.

"Stop pouting. I know you don't want to have much contact with her. I went to see her before I came, and she won't use these things to make things difficult for you in the future."

Geng Youran then smiled again.

"I have received news that Father Emperor will be going to Rehe for a period of time next April, and preparations have already begun. I plan to take you with me."

Upon hearing this news, Geng Youran's eyes lit up, but the light quickly faded.

"Your Highness, I must stay here and look after Hongzhou, so I will not go."

“Hongzhou is almost a year old, he’ll be fine. Besides, Wanru is here.”

But Geng Youran still refused.

“Your Highness, Wanru has already gone to great lengths for Hongli alone. Besides, I accompanied you to Sichuan last time and it broadened my horizons. Why don’t you take Wanru with you this time? It would be a way for me to repay this favor.”

Yinzhen stared intently into Geng Youran's eyes, and Geng Youran did not look away.

Only then did he realize that Geng Youran was speaking from the heart.

Yinzhen tucked a stray strand of hair behind Geng Youran's ear.

"Alright, then I'll help you repay this favor."

The following evening, Yinzhen went to Niohuru Wanru's courtyard. She was playing with her son Hongli at the time.

Hongli is now climbing very fast and loves chasing people, so the mother and son simply laid out a thick mat on the ground and played chasing games on it.

As soon as Yinzhen stepped into the room, he heard Hongli's 'hehe' laughter coming from inside.

Even Yinzhen didn't realize how gentle his expression was.

Seeing that the noise inside had subsided, Yinzhen coughed once.

"Your Highness, may you be well!"

Wanru never expected that Yinzhen would come so late, so she kept Hongli here to play a little longer.

Yinzhen remained expressionless, said "Get up," and then stepped forward to pick up Hongli.

At this moment, Hongli had already started calling out to people, though he was pronouncing each word clearly.

"Ah! Ma!"

Yinzhen was pleasantly surprised; he remembered that Hongshi hadn't spoken up this early back then.

He turned to Niohuru Wanru, who looked anxious, and comforted her:

"You've raised your child very well."

Wanru smiled gently and said softly:

"It's all thanks to the wet nurse and servants; I only play with the child for a little while each day."

Despite saying that, Wanru's pride was still very evident.

Yinzhen suddenly realized that this Princess Niohuru wasn't as timid as he had imagined, and even seemed somewhat cute.

"Alright, then reward each of these lackeys with two months' wages."

"This servant thanks Your Highness and Princess for their generous gifts."

After playing with Hongli for a while, Yinzhen allowed the wet nurses to take the baby out, while the remaining maids put away the cushions and brewed a new pot of tea for their masters.

“Last night, I discussed it with You Ran. At the beginning of next year, Father Emperor will go to Rehe, and I plan to take you with me.”

Wanru was first taken aback, then overjoyed, and then worried.

"My lord, what will happen to Hongli if I go to Rehe?"

Yinzhen took Wanru's hand and let her sit on his lap:

"You can have You Ran take care of Hongli for you. Hongli and Hongzhou are only a few months apart, so they can spend a few more days together."

To say that she didn't want to go would be self-deception.

But she was too cautious, so she whispered:

“Master, why don’t we let Sister Geng go instead? I’ll keep an eye on Hongzhou for her.”

"What, you don't like me?"

No, that's not it!

Wanru quickly waved her hand.

Yinzhen smiled:

"Alright, I know what you're thinking. Don't worry, if there's another chance like this in the future, I'll just take your sister Geng with me."

Wanru smiled with relief.

Yinzhen found the two of them quite interesting. While others were vying to follow him, these two were pushing him toward the other.

It's no wonder that Geng Youran and Niohuru Wanru have such a good relationship; they share similar ideas.

If there was any ambition to compete for favor before, it was only to survive in the inner quarters. But now that both of them have their own children, the wife doesn't mistreat herself and is content to simply stay in the mansion and peacefully watch her children grow up.

The two of them no longer demand the favor that Yinzhen currently bestows upon them.

Especially Geng Youran, although she told Yinzhen her biggest secret, Yinzhen also kept the secret for her.

However, she also helped Yinzhen earn a lot of money, and essentially she felt that she did not owe Yinzhen anything.

She likes Yinzhen, but not to the point of giving up herself for the sake of liking him.

She was jealous of Yinzhen's visits to other women, but that was all she felt.

Before long, Consort Nian also learned of this matter.

At this moment, Nian Yunrong was lying on the bed in a daze, and upon hearing the news, she could only give a bitter smile.
