Kangxi sighed:
"Those unfilial sons outside probably wish I would just die right now."
"emperor!"
Li Dequan, who was standing nearby, quickly spoke up.
Kangxi, however, seemed completely unconcerned.
"Don't hold back. Those unfilial sons claim it's for brotherhood, but I know perfectly well what they're really thinking. Geng Youran, what do you say?"
"This servant dares not. However, this servant dares to speak, Your Majesty, even if you are very angry, you cannot punish yourself for the mistakes of others."
Kangxi laughed upon hearing this:
"Tell me, are you feeling sorry for the fourth brother?"
Geng Youran remained silent.
She knew that there were always spies of the Emperor around her. Although she didn't know how much the spies reported to the Emperor, she was certain that the Emperor could not get any information from her about Yinzhen's desire to become the Crown Prince.
She ignored all of the emperor's other thoughts.
"Li Dequan, bring the food box up here."
Upon hearing that the Emperor had finally decided to eat, Li Dequan quickly took the food box from Geng Youran and presented it to the Emperor.
"You're right. It's really foolish to punish yourself for other people's mistakes."
"This servant dares not."
Emperor Kangxi had a poor appetite and stopped after a few bites. He then sent Li Dequan out to deliver an imperial edict, ordering all the princes to withdraw.
"Geng Youran, do you still remember what Yuan Yi said back then?"
"Your Majesty, time has passed and I have long forgotten about it."
"Forget? Good riddance. You're destined for good fortune. Alright, step back."
Geng Youran quickly left. Once outside, the cold wind made her feel even colder as the cold sweat on her body was blown away.
"It's so cold outside, why don't you wear more clothes?"
"Your Highness?"
Yinzhen remained silent, draped the cloak over Geng Youran's shoulders, and then took her hand and left.
