Chapter 16 I washed it
Chapter 16
Qi Jingyan was silent for a moment, then spoke in a low voice: "Meng Yuning?"
When Meng Yuning was about to fall asleep, she heard someone calling her name and subconsciously responded, "Hey."
A hint of surprise flashed in Qi Jingyan's eyes. He stared at the woman curled up in a small ball on the bed next to him for a while, then slowly looked away.
Yier held the little rabbit in one hand and the little fox in the other, and shook them gently with endless enjoyment.
Qi Jingyan reached out and touched his little head: "Do you like it?"
Yier nodded: "I like it."
Qi Jingyan: "Then I will learn how to make it for you tomorrow."
Yier raised his little head and finally showed his first smile of the night: "Yier wants a lot more."
Qi Jingyan also smiled: "Okay."
---
The next day.
Meng Yuning slept very soundly, and when she woke up, it was already bright outside.
He stretched himself, opened his eyes, and found himself in an unfamiliar environment. After a moment's pause, he remembered that he had followed Qi Jingyan and his group into the deep mountains and forests.
She was the only one in the room at the moment, and the two brothers Qi Jingyan had disappeared.
She sat up, and her first reaction was that sleeping in bed was much more comfortable than sleeping in a carriage.
The bed is not covered with anything and feels a bit uncomfortable. She has to go and see today if she can find some hay or something to use as a mattress.
Just as she was thinking about it, she smelled the rich aroma of rice coming from outside, and her stomach happened to growl.
She held her stomach: "I'm hungry."
She put on her shoes and went downstairs, straightened her clothes, and took out the only wooden comb from her bag. She untied her hair, combed it again, and casually tied it into a simple bun. She put the gold hairpin back on her head.
She folded the cloak, put it on the bedside, and went out.
The sun was shining brightly and the air in the mountains was extremely fresh. Meng Yuning took two deep breaths and her mood brightened.
Qi Jingyan was sitting in a wheelchair, holding a handful of dogtail grass in his hand, studying it with his head down. Little Yi'er was leaning against the side of his wheelchair, looking at it seriously with her little head tilted out. Both the big and the small were very focused, and no one noticed her coming out.
Mu Yun, Mu Feng and the others didn't see anyone. Only Doctor Tang was guarding the two stoves. Rice porridge was bubbling in a big pot, and medicine was boiling on another stove, with steam coming out of the hole in the lid.
She first walked towards Qi Jingyan and bowed: "Good morning, Your Highness, good morning, Your Highness."
Qi Jingyan raised his head and nodded at her as a response, then continued to fiddle with the dogtail grass in his hand.
When Yi'er saw her, he timidly hid behind Qi Jingyan's wheelchair, revealing half of his little head and looking at her curiously.
The little boy has a round head and a pair of big, twinkling eyes. He is so cute.
Meng Yuning's heart softened when she saw this. She pointed at the little rabbit and fox he was still holding in his hands and asked with a smile, "Little Prince, do you want more?"
The little boy nodded, then shook his head, glanced at Qi Jingyan, and said with pride: "Brother, help me do it."
Qi Jingyan paused fiddling with the grass and glanced at the ground.
Meng Yuning followed his gaze and discovered that there was a pile of dogtail grass that had been worn into a state of disarray beside his wheelchair. It was obviously his battle record.
Meng Yuning couldn't help but laugh silently. This omnipotent future regent in the book actually had some things he couldn't do.
As if noticing her smile, Qi Jingyan raised his head and looked at her. Meng Yuning quickly pursed her lips to suppress her smile, pretending nothing had happened. She reached out and took a few dogtail grass from Qi Jingyan's hand, then squatted in front of Yi'er and said as she wrapped it around the rabbit: "Look, little prince, that's it. Just wrap it, twist it, tie it, and the simple little rabbit is done."
Looking at the lively little rabbit in Meng Yuning's hand, Yi'er nodded, then looked up at Qi Jingyan and said in a baby voice, "It's just a simple little rabbit. Brother, do you know how to make it?"
Qi Jingyan: “…”
He knew that although she was speaking to Yi'er, she was actually teaching him.
But her slender white fingers were so flexible that he stared at her almost intently, but still couldn't understand how the little rabbit was made.
Meng Yuning also looked up at Qi Jingyan.
Two pairs of eyes, one big and one small, looked at Qi Jingyan, their eyes equally clear.
Qi Jingyan was silent for a moment, then handed a few stalks of dogtail grass to Meng Yuning: "Please make another one."
Meng Yuning said yes with a frown, took the dogtail grass, and was about to start weaving when she saw Qi Jingyan draw a circle in the air with his finger: "Turn around, I want to see it straight."
"Oh, okay." Meng Yuning stood up, turned around, and squatted beside Yi'er. "Your Highness, Little Highness, watch carefully. First, do this, then this, and then this..."
Meng Yuning deliberately slowed down this time, almost using slow motion to weave a little rabbit with a head, legs, and a tail. Then she looked up at Qi Jingyan: "Your Highness, did you see it clearly?"
Qi Jingyan: "Understood."
Meng Yuning encouraged, "Then why don't you give it a try, Your Highness?"
"Okay, let's try." Qi Jingyan took out a few dogtail grasses and weaved them according to Meng Yuning's method just now. However, he found that although his eyes could see, his hands couldn't. After trying several times and breaking several dogtail grasses, he still couldn't weave it.
Seeing Qi Jingyan's long hands struggling with the foxtail grass in an extremely clumsy manner, Meng Yuning couldn't help but burst out laughing.
After laughing, he felt bad and quickly covered his mouth: "I'm sorry, I suddenly remembered something funny, Your Highness, please continue."
Qi Jingyan raised his eyes slightly, glanced at her indifferently, then lowered his eyes and continued to fiddle with the dogtail grass.
Seeing that the handful of dogtail grass on his legs was almost eaten up by him, Yi'er couldn't bear it anymore. She stretched out her little hand to pick up the remaining dogtail grass and stuffed it into Meng Yuning's hand, with disgust on her little face: "Brother, stupid."
Qi Jingyan looked at the dogtail grass on the ground, reached out and touched Yi'er's head, then looked at Meng Yuning: "Thank you for your help."
Meng Yuning nodded, but said nothing. She was trying to suppress her laughter, afraid that it would burst out the moment she opened her mouth.
She used the remaining dogtail grass to weave a puppy and a peach heart. At Yi'er's request, she weaved another puppy, a nine-tailed fox, and a peach heart, making everything into a pair.
The little boy was holding a handful of straw toys in his hand, smiling so hard that his teeth were showing.
Looking at the happy smile on Yi'er's thin little face, Qi Jingyan nodded to Meng Yuning: "Thank you."
Meng Yuning smiled and stood up: "Your Highness, there is no need to be so polite. As long as the little prince likes it, that's fine."
Doctor Tang shouted over there, "The porridge is ready, time to eat."
Several responses came from the nearby mountains: "I'm coming." "I know." "I'll be right back."
Meng Yuning ignored Qi Jingyan and the other two and ran to the mountain spring to wash her face and hands. Then she broke off a small piece of willow branch at the side of the mountain, peeled the bark and used it as a toothbrush to brush her teeth.
She had just finished washing up when she saw Mu Yun and others coming down the mountain one after another. Some of them carried bamboo branches on their shoulders, some held firewood in their hands, and everyone carried something.
Everyone put their things in the corner, washed their hands, and then each took a bowl and chopsticks, filled a bowl of white porridge, and squatted aside to eat it.
Doctor Tang served Meng Yuning a bowl of it: "I just cooked it casually, please don't despise it, little girl Meng."
Meng Yuning originally thought that Qi Jingyan brought her out because he liked her cooking skills, and that she would have to prepare all three meals a day in the future, and she was already prepared to cook for everyone.
She hadn't expected anyone to call her this morning, leaving her to sleep until she woke up naturally. Now she could have a ready-made meal. How could she possibly object? She quickly took it with both hands and said, "Thank you, Doctor Tang."
Then he asked again: "Your Highness and Little Highness, don't you want to eat?"
Doctor Tang poured himself a bowl of rice porridge. "Your Highness said he wasn't hungry and didn't eat this morning. Mu Yun and the others went up the mountain early this morning to look for some bird eggs. I cooked them for you just now."
It was good that everything was arranged. Meng Yuning was not the kind of person who worried too much. She took the bowl and found a wooden stool to sit on, and ate the porridge slowly.
After eating, he was about to wash the dishes. A guard came forward and took over the large basin of bowls and went to wash them together.
Mu Yun and the others went up the mountain again. Meng Yuning couldn't sit still either, so she followed them up the mountain: "I'll go take a look too."
Qi Jingyan called out to her, "Miss Meng."
Meng Yuning turned and looked at him, "Your Highness, is there something wrong?"
Qi Jingyan raised his palm and waved, motioning her to come closer.
Meng Yuning did as she was told and walked closer.
Qi Jingyan glanced at the hem of Meng Yuning's skirt and said, "Mu Yun and the others are out looking for something. They won't be back for a while. If you want to take a shower and change clothes, go take advantage of this free time."
Meng Yuning glanced down and saw that there was mud on the hem of her skirt. It was from when she accidentally fell while climbing the mountain yesterday. Although it had dried and most of it had been rubbed off, it was still really unsightly.
Not only that, she had been on the road since leaving the capital and had not taken a bath. Although the spring weather was not very hot, she was really uncomfortable.
She had originally planned to find an opportunity to wash it today, but she didn't expect Qi Jingyan to be so considerate and actually take the initiative to arrange it for her. She was grateful and bowed to him: "Thank you, Your Highness. I'll go boil some water now."
Qi Jingyan pointed to the stove and said, "Dr. Tang has already boiled the water. Yi'er and I are outside. No one will disturb you."
Meng Yuning looked over there and saw that the water in the big pot was already boiling.
Doctor Tang picked up a kitchen knife and walked up the mountain: "I'll go take a look and see if there are any treasures on this mountain."
Qi Jingyan added, "The wooden barrel at the foot of the wall was left behind by the previous family. It was probably used for bathing. It's been cleaned and can be used as is."
Meng Yuning did not delay and bowed to Qi Jingyan. She walked to the pot, scooped half a basin of hot water with a ladle, weighed the weight, did not add more, and carefully brought the half basin of water into the house.
Then he went out again, and with great effort brought in the wooden barrel and placed it in the middle of the floor.
He poured the half basin of hot water in, then went to get two half basins of hot water and two half basins of cold water. Then he closed the door and locked both bolts.
Then he walked to his little bed, knelt down and leaned against the window, looking out. Qi Jingyan happened to be looking over, and their eyes met across the window.
The two looked at each other for a moment. Qi Jingyan didn't say anything. He turned the wheelchair with his hands, slowly changed direction, and faced the window with his back.
Looking at the figure sitting in the wheelchair, still standing tall and straight like a pine tree, Meng Yuning leaned against the window frame and politely negotiated with him: "Well, Your Highness, I'll wash it now. If you need anything, call me. If not, don't turn around."
The window is too low, with no window paper or curtains. If he looks over, he might actually see something, which would be so embarrassing.
Qi Jingyan: “…Yeah.”
