Chapter 12: Eating Watermelons at the Village Head

Under Zhou Dahai's instructions, Du Cuihua chatted with several women from the village who were gossiping under a big tree at the entrance of the village, which was the birthplace of gossip in the village.

"Have you heard? Yi Laoer's family is doing business in town." Du Cuihua pouted.

"Is this true? Isn't his family so poor that they can't even afford to cook?" Aunt Wu didn't believe it.

Du Cuihua became even more excited when she saw that it was Aunt Wu. The two families had a feud. "Really? Dahai and I saw it with our own eyes!"

"What business are you in?" Aunt Wu continued to ask Du Cuihua out of curiosity.

"They are in the duck business," Du Cuihua replied.

"Duck is inedible and doesn't have much meat. Why would anyone buy it? People in this town are not fools." Aunt Wu said angrily.

"Hey, you're wrong again. I don't know where Yi Yami got the secret recipe from, but the duck she made is so delicious!" Du Cuihua recalled the smell she smelled when she was squeezed in the crowd.

"You said this is useless. What does it have to do with us?" Aunt Wu was not happy to hear others praising Yi Laoer's family.

Du Cuihua saw her annoyance and understood, then fanned the flames by saying, "Before, your Wu Liang pushed his Yi Yami into the water and she drowned. Hey, that's not what they said when they came to your house."

Aunt Wu glared at her angrily and said, "What evidence do you have to prove that it was my Wu Liang who pushed me? If you don't have any evidence, don't make up stories here! Be careful not to rot your tongue!"

Zhou Cuihua shrugged, took Aunt Wu's hand and said, "Ah, Aunt Wu, I'm on your side. Isn't it because they don't have evidence to prove that Wu Liang pushed the woman? Otherwise, Wu Liang would be in jail now."

Seeing that there were other people present, Aunt Wu held back her anger, took her hand away, and continued, "I've told you many times that it wasn't my child who did it. Stop throwing dirty water on my child!"

The other women who were listening to the gossip knew what was going on, but they just didn't interrupt.

One of the women looked at them with rolling eyes.

"How much did his family earn from the business?" another woman asked curiously.

"He makes quite a bit of money, let me tell you. Look, he has patched up the roof and plastered the walls. He also bought a lot of new things before. That business must be profitable!" Du Cuihua described it vividly.

"Hey, is there such a good thing?" the woman asked in confusion.

"That's right, and let me tell you, they have been out since morning, and they have taken two big jars with them, and sometimes there are quite a lot of jars. They come back at noon or afternoon. What does that mean? It means business is good, and Dahai and I saw it with our own eyes, the scene was really crowded, with people so crowded that you couldn't even squeeze in!" Du Cuihua drooled.

"Oh my God!" the woman exclaimed in surprise!

"How come Yi Laoer's family does such a profitable business by themselves?" Aunt Wu interrupted at the right time.

"That's right, his family wants to eat alone! Now he is the only family in the town doing this business, and they are making a lot of money! You said we are all from the same village, right? Neighbors usually help each other. Now, his family wants to eat alone, how can such a good thing happen? We are all from the same village, so what's wrong with helping each other? We grew up together." Du Cuihua became very excited when she said this.

The woman who had been quietly listening to the gossip rolled her eyes.

"What you said makes sense, but if I want him to teach me, I'll probably have to become his disciple, and I'll probably have to pay some money..." The woman thought for a moment.

Du Cuihua thought about it and said immediately, "Oh, if you spend some money and someone is willing to teach you, then spend some money. It's a small investment to achieve great things! If this skill is learned, the child at home will have a better life for several lifetimes!"

Several women thought what Du Cuihua said made sense, so they stood up and said they had something to do at home and went back first.

Seeing that her provocation had worked, Du Cuihua smiled, patted her butt and left.

The woman who had been listening to the gossip waited until most of the others had left before she headed towards Yi Laoer's house.

"Is anyone home?" the woman knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Old Mrs. Yi asked, walked out and opened the door.

"Hey, why are you here?" Old Mrs. Yi said with a smile.

"Okay, you won't tell me about your family's business now, right? I have to find out from other people." The woman gave her a reproachful look.

"Come in, come in." Old Mrs. Yi welcomed the person in with a smile.

"What's the matter? I've been busy all the time. I forgot to tell you." Old Mrs. Yi said with a smile.

"Where did you hear about my family's business? From Du Cuihua?" Old Mrs. Yi asked tentatively.

"Well, if I hadn't happened to be sitting at the entrance of the village, I wouldn't have heard this gossip. Du Cuihua seemed to have a lot of opinions about your family, and she was talking nonsense there. You don't understand how excited she was. She said something like we are all from the same village, why not lend a hand?" The woman picked a stool and sat down.

"Lan Shui's mother, have a drink of water." Old Mrs. Yi handed over a glass of water.

"Hey, Du Cuihua secretly followed my second son to the town, and then saw him and his friends doing business. When she came back, she ran to my house and acted crazy, threatening us that we had to take her with us to do business. Otherwise, she would let the whole village learn from her." Old Mrs. Yi sighed.

"What Du Cuihua did was really inhumane!" Lan Shui's mother said angrily after hearing this.

"Who says it isn't? But I think there should be no one in the village who is as shameless as her to come to my house. And even if everyone wants to learn, they will probably have to pay a gift of apprenticeship or something. Besides, this business was proposed by my granddaughter. It has nothing to do with us, and we can't make the decision." Old Mrs. Yi waved her hand.
