Chapter 5 All or Nothing

Outside, a scene of tranquility and vibrant life unfolds. In the distance, rolling hills, shaded by green trees, resemble a beautiful landscape painting. The village is surrounded by vast fields, where waves of wheat billow in the wind, like a golden ocean.

Looking out, you can see rows of neatly arranged houses, mostly built of stone and wood, with thick thatched roofs. Smoke rises from the chimneys of some houses, adding a touch of warmth to the village.

There was a clear stream in the village, gurgling and rippling. By the stream, several women were washing clothes and vegetables, while some children were playing in the shallow water, their laughter echoing throughout the village.

In a house not far away, an old man sat under the eaves, smoking a pipe leisurely, a satisfied smile on his face. A few chickens strolled leisurely in the yard, looking for food.

The puppies in the village were also running happily, chasing and playing with the children from other families.

The sun sets in the west, and there are a few red clouds on the horizon.

Yi Yami looked at it, took a deep breath, and thought to herself, "It's great, a pristine environment, no smog, no sandstorms, and no air pollution. The air is so fresh that I thought I had taken a deep breath in the fields."

Yi Yami's mother was busy in the small vegetable garden behind the house. Seeing Yi Yami standing in the yard with vegetables in her hands, she hurried out and said, "Xiaomi, you're awake!"

"...Mother?" Yiyami looked at the woman, feeling familiar but not quite familiar, and spoke tentatively.

He Huaizhu looked at her like this, tears streaming down her face. "What? You don't recognize your mother?"

Seeing her like this, Yi Yami quickly stepped forward and stretched out her hand to wipe her tears, "Mom, don't cry, don't cry..."

"What should I do? The beauty is crying, and I am helpless..." Yiyami screamed in her heart.

Yi Xiaomai went up to Yi Yami and explained, "Mom, my sister said that she seemed to have damaged her brain and can't remember anything that happened before."

Yi Yami was happy that Yi Xiaomai had explained it to her, but the next second she was stunned. Why was this kid exaggerating? She didn't say she had a brain injury...

He Huaizhu looked at Yi Xiaomai and then at Yi Yami who was in a daze. She wiped her tears and patted Yi Yami. "It's good that you're still alive. It doesn't matter if you don't remember. Anyway, I'm your mother. Just remember me."

Yi Yami nodded "yeah".

"Mom, what food can we sell?" Yi Yami asked, grabbing He Huaizhu's sleeve.

He Huaizhu looked at her suspiciously. "What? Are you hungry?"

Yi Yami shook her head, thinking about how to tell her that she could cook.

"Mom... didn't I come back from the dead?" Yiyami thought for a long time and said.

"Why are you bringing up that matter?" He Huaizhu was a little angry. His daughter's pale face and cold body were still vivid in his mind. He Huaizhu subconsciously held Yi Yami's hand. He Huaizhu breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, it was warm.

"I... was rescued by our ancestor..." Yi Yami thought about it and decided to mix truth and lies, otherwise she didn't know how to explain her cooking skills.

"Ancestor?" He Huaizhu looked puzzled.

"Yes, it's our ancestor, the one who is very good at cooking. Do you still remember him?" Yiyami said, looking at her expression.

"I don't remember there being such a person in our family..." He Huaizhu thought for a long time but couldn't figure out who it was.

Yi Yami sighed, "Mom, maybe it's too long ago, and part of the family tree may have been lost. Anyway, it was our ancestor who saved me. He also told me that because our family was going through a hard time, he couldn't stand it from heaven. So he taught me all the skills and asked me to run our family well."

He Huaizhu listened, his face filled with shock. "Child, are you confused?" He Huaizhu seemed to think of the fire and felt that his daughter's brain was burned out by it. The next second, his hand reached out to Yi Yami's forehead.

"Mom, I'm fine. Then why is it that such a big fireball burned our fields, but I'm fine?" Yi Yami was eager to make He Huaizhu believe her.

He Huaizhu was a little doubtful after hearing this, but he didn't quite believe what she said.

"Mom, just watch. I'll show you my skills and you'll know." Yiyami felt that instead of just talking, it would be better to cook a good meal for her family to taste in order to prove that what she said was true.

He Huaizhu also thought it made sense, but he still had things to do, so he just let her do what she wanted.

Yi Yami walked into the kitchen under Xiaomai's guidance.

A stale smell filled the air. The roof was dilapidated, sunlight filtering through the cracks, illuminating the dusty floor. The walls were covered in mottled marks, the lime peeling off, revealing the bricks and stones underneath.

There is an iron pot on the stove. It is not new but it has been polished to a very bright shine by the owner.

Next to it were some old cooking utensils, wooden spoons and spatulas that were worn beyond recognition.

The ashes in the stove give off a faint smell of fireworks, giving people a sense of security.

The wooden basin was filled with dishes from this morning. Yi Yami picked them up and washed them.

"Sister, you are so fast!" Yi Xiaomai was watching from the side and was shocked by Yi Yami's speed and proficiency.

"What's that?" Yiyami smiled slightly.

Yi Yami rinsed the dishes and put them in the wooden cupboard.

"There's no water at home, Xiaomai, can you go get some water?" Yi Yami saw that the water in the jar was almost empty, so he turned to Yi Xiaomai and instructed her.
