"Nothing, I just missed you. Come on in, have some tea, and chat for a while." Wangcai's mother spoke to He Huaizhu with a suppressed distaste. She hated He Huaizhu too, and the two of them had their share of arguments. But now, with the family desperate for money, she had no choice but to bow her head.
"I won't drink the tea. After you finish your meal, bring a clean stone stick or wooden stick from home. Remember to make sure it's clean. Then come to my house to help with some work. Xiaomi said that you will be paid after the work is done, and you won't be treated unfairly. If your husband is at home, he can come too." He Huaizhu was anxious to find other people who were too busy and didn't want to drink her tea, so she left after saying these words.
"Hey! You haven't told me how much you make per day? Are my husband and I paid the same?" Wangcai's mother shouted at He Huaizhu's back.
"Fifteen cents per person. The price is the same for men and women, regardless of strength. The work is urgent, so you should go quickly after dinner. I have to find someone else." He Huaizhu waved his hand.
When Wangcai's mother heard this, her eyes lit up. This short-term job in the city would only earn her twenty or so cents a day, and the better ones would be close to thirty cents. This was right at her doorstep. Although the price was not as high as in the town, it was about the same. If she didn't walk to the town, she would still have to pay for the bus fare. If she didn't cook, she would still have to eat and so on. She might not make that much money in a day. Thinking of this, she hurried to find her husband. The two of them discussed it, stuffed a piece of cake into their mouths, asked Wangcai to look after the house, and then they ran to Yi Laoer's yard, fearing that they would miss this opportunity to make money.
He Huaizhu is very efficient in his work, and everyone is mainly interested in him for the money. Soon, twenty people came, most of whom were couples.
Seeing this, Yiyami asked them to line up, one jar per person, and use the wooden or stone sticks they brought to smash the tomatoes in the jar and slice them.
Yi Yami asked He Huaizhu to go have lunch while he explained to them, "What's in front of you is a special juice that the border troops urgently need. Each of you must ensure that no sawdust or stones fall into this vat. This plant may be thick and hard, so you need to use more force to crush it. After crushing the upper layer, remember to turn the lower layer up and continue crushing. Uncles and aunts, wash your hands before working, then work, and then crush it. When Uncle Ma brings a new vat, you can divide the one vat into three, then pour water in and stir. I'll come back to check. If there are no problems, uncles and aunts can collect their wages and leave. Whoever finishes first will get paid first, but you must ensure that the work is done well. If you do a good job, I will consider calling you first when there is work at my house next time."
When everyone heard that there was no problem, they all responded loudly, "Don't worry, Xiaomi, we are all good at this job!"
Yi Yami smiled and nodded, "Uncles and aunts, wash your hands and start working."
There's strength in numbers. Whether it was the money or the fact that everyone was working simultaneously, everyone was incredibly motivated. It wasn't long before someone's pot broke. Yi Yami went to check and confirmed it was fine. Uncle Ma just happened to be returning with a new pot. The man, free to do nothing, stepped in to help unload it, clean it, and then divide the pot into three, just as Yi Yami had instructed. Seeing his quick work, the others sped up, too, and soon the pots were all divided. All sixty pots were neatly arranged. They filled them with water and began stirring again with long, clean wooden boards. As the sun set, everyone had finally finished.
One by one, they received their wages and went home happily.
The man who helped unload the vats was the last to come to collect his wages. Yi Yami remembered him and said to him, "Uncle, next time there's work for my family, you can come and do it. You're meticulous and have a keen eye for work." Yi Yami gave him three more coins, but he pushed them to her and said, "How can I ask you for more money? It's just a small favor. It's great that you can ask me to work again next time! Next time there's work for your family, remember to come and find me. I'm Liu Honghua's father. How about Liu?"
Yi Yami nodded, "Okay, I'll remember that. Take care."
Liu He waved his hand and slowly walked back to his home.
While working in the afternoon, Yi Yami went to the village and found Yu Xiaofu, who had come to her for ideas before.
Yu Xiaofu's business is neither good nor bad, but it is doing well. Everyone in the town knows that he exists.
He recently met a freight forwarding boss and was planning to cooperate with him to do something big.
It just so happened that Yi Yami came to the door.
"Hey, what a rare visitor, Sister Xiaomi, why are you here?" Yu Xiaofu had just returned home and hadn't even stood firmly when he saw Yi Yami coming to his door.
"Brother Yu, I have something to ask you. I have sixty jars of special juice here, and I need you to help me transport it to the military camp on the border." Yi Yami was glad that he was at home, otherwise she would have to go around the town looking for someone.
"Sixty cylinders! That's a considerable number." Yu Xiaofu was surprised.
"Yes, because there are many soldiers on the border." Yiyami explained.
Yu Xiaofu's eyes rolled, and he immediately agreed. "Sister Xiaomi, don't worry. I'll have someone take her away tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, this thing is quite urgent, you may need to travel overnight. You'd better make arrangements for the transfer of personnel." Yi Yami reminded.
"Okay, we'll take care of this, but what about the cost?" Yu Xiaofu asked.
Yi Yami thought for a moment, "I'll write a contract with you. After you deliver it, you can ask General Gu to pay the fee. If General Gu doesn't come, you can bring back his letter, and then I'll pay you the fee."
Yu Xiaofu nodded in agreement. "Okay, Xiao Mi, how can you still be involved with the border troops?"
