Chapter 54: The Eve of Opening

In Luguang Town, the shop near the bridge is being cleaned, and beautiful hydrangea potted plants are being placed at the door.

As Yi Yami said, two stone Pi Xiu were placed at the door.

On the door was a couplet written by He Tuyuan. The first line read: "Devours abound in the building, as they are served on jade plates." The second line read: "Even the old gourmets have to hold onto the wall when they eat." The horizontal scroll read: "Guests flock like clouds."

A newly made sign was hung on it, wrapped in red cloth, waiting to be taken down when the store opened.

Upon entering, a massive water tank stands on the uppermost level, housing a miniature waterwheel. This pumps water up from below, dropping it into a lower pan, which then flows back into the tank. Behind the tank are several smaller tanks, each filled with fresh, sun-dried water. Inside, planted with pennywort and water hyacinths, the water appears vibrant blue, tinged with pale yellow, creating a unique spectacle. A glimpse into the tanks is sure to delight guests. Inside, numerous tiny golden and red koi swim freely. A sturdy, floor-to-ceiling curved screen shields the back of the tank, preventing a glimpse into the interior. However, since the restaurant consists of three rooms, the central door serves as the main entrance, and the fish tank is placed at the central entrance. The screen is perfectly sized to barely block the view of the door, allowing other guests passing by to still observe the diners dining inside through the side door.

Yi Yami asked He Tuyuan to paint two different pictures on the curved screen. The one in front facing the gate was a picture of a waterfall, with the water cascading down, which was very majestic; the one on the back was a picture of a scene where hundreds of children were celebrating a birthday and a magpie came to the door to deliver the good news. There were also a few big words written next to it: "Go out and meet happiness, and your home will be filled with blessings."

There are pots of Chinese lucky charm plants on the left side of the wall, and pots of Chinese money plants on the right side.

Yi Xiaomai and Tiantian were laying a blue, waterproof and oil-proof tablecloth. On the table was a beige bamboo tube filled with many chopsticks.

Shengsheng and Gangan are tying a butt pad to each stool. The color of the butt pad is the same as the tablecloth, which is also blue.

Xinxin and Tiantian were wiping the cash register. There was a golden toad on the cash register, with a sign written by He Tuyuan saying "honesty is the best policy", an abacus and several blank account books on the back.

"Come on, come on, someone give me a hand." He Tuyuan called out.

"Come on, brother, what are you going to do?" Yi Xiaomai dropped the work in her hands and walked towards him.

"Well... you are too short, call your father." He Tuyuan looked him up and down, then slowly said hurtful words.

"! I'm not short!" Yi Xiaomai raised his little fist to protest.

"Okay, okay, you're not short. Go call your dad over. This job needs a tall person to do it better." He Tuyuan said with a smile.

Yi Xiaomai glared at him, then reluctantly went to the door to call Yi Laoer who was cleaning.

Yi Yami came in hurriedly, and seeing that the arrangements were almost done, she said, "Thank you all for your hard work, cousin. Remember to put up that painting for me. By the way, how are you guys doing on the second and third floors?"

"Don't worry, it's no problem. My uncle will come in soon and the two of us will finish applying it for you." He Tuyuan replied.

"Okay, I'll go check out the second and third floors." Yi Yami trudged up to the second floor and took a look. He Huaizhu, Old Lady Yi, and He Miao were wiping and arranging flowers. Unlike the tablecloths on the first floor, the tablecloths on the second floor were red. Yi Yami greeted them softly and went to the third floor. It was already tidied, the windows all open, and the sunlight poured in, casting a shadow on the yellow tablecloths, creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

Yi Yami sat down by the window. From this position, she could see the pedestrians on the street and the activity in the market through the window on the left; from the window on the right, she could see the slowly flowing stream, the stone bridge, the houses across the bridge, and the backyard of her own shop.

Yi Yami is in a good mood. Although she has been very busy recently, she has something to look forward to every day.

In the backyard, Mr. and Mrs. Yi Lao Da and Mr. Yi Lao San were cleaning the kitchen, preparing for the opening the next day.

Yi Lao Er approached them and asked them to join him in the shop to do business. They couldn't even think about it, their hearts filled with gratitude towards Yi Lao Er's family. They also agreed to settle accounts daily so they would have money to buy the next day's goods. Then, at the end of the month, they would pay rent to Yi Ya Mi. The rent was 45 taels per month, which was 15 taels per month for three families. While they could rent a separate shop with this money, it wouldn't be as spacious as Yi Ya Mi's, and they wouldn't have a place to live. Most importantly, if they did business with Yi Ya Mi and his family, they could look after each other and take advantage of some of Yi Ya Mi's customers. No matter how they looked at it, it was a worthwhile deal, so the two families naturally agreed.

Yi Yami originally wanted to find an accountant to solve the accounting problems between himself, Yi Lao Da and Yi Lao San.

At this time, Xinxin came up and sat down next to Yiyami. "Sister, I can do the accounting. You can leave the accounting issues to me."

"Really?" Yiyami looked at her in surprise, and she nodded shyly.

Yiyami asked her to demonstrate it to her, and it turned out to be quite good. Yiyami smiled happily, as if someone had brought her a pillow just when she was sleepy, saving her from having to look for one everywhere.

Yi Yami thought about it and decided to do it this way for now. Xinxin would be the accountant, and the other dolls would be errand boys. The sweet girls and handsome boys would all wear the same uniform, which would look very energetic and would be a special feature.

Yi Yami found some free time and took out the previous letters and replied to them one by one.

"To a frequent visitor of my home: Hello, I'm Miss Xiao Yi. The poisoning incident has passed, and my family is doing well. We will reopen the day after tomorrow, which is September 18th of the Gregorian calendar, but the location will be changed to this shop on the east side of the market, next to the bridge, that is, Yi Ji Food Shop. You are welcome to visit me then. Here are three coupons for you to bring your family to enjoy." Yi Yami wrote, set it aside, and waited for the ink to dry.
