Chapter 18: Reading the Proof

Chapter 18: Reading the Proof

The sun was at its highest point and the cicadas were chirping tirelessly. After leaving the hospital, Guilin and Nian Nian got into the car again, isolating the scorching air outside the car door.

"Go to the District People's Government."

After Shi Guilin settled Nian Nian down, he gave an instruction to the driver in the driver's seat.

The car started smoothly, and Shi Guilin counted the piles of documents he had prepared in advance to make sure he had forgotten anything at home.

After all, this information is useful for adoption registration.

Shi Guilin checked it three times, making sure everything was in order, before placing the document securely back into the brown paper bag. He was lost in thought, a smile playing on his lips, as if something great was about to happen.

Twenty minutes later.

Shi Guilin got out of the car holding a brown paper bag in one hand and Nian Nian in the other, and walked into the gate of the People's Government in a low-key manner.

Civil servants were busy with their duties, and the hall was bustling with people, each moving with their own purpose. Without worrying about attracting undue attention, Shi Guilin calmly read the procedures on the electronic screen.

The diagram of the procedures was very clear. After Shi Guilin had a general understanding of it, he took out his mobile phone to take a picture of the route map for easy reference. He easily found the windows one by one according to the numbers and submitted the information.

His figure was clear and cool. He was wearing a mask and a baseball cap and holding a baby. He sat in front of the window, looking like a novice dad. No one would have thought that he was Shi Guilin, the extremely popular actor in the entertainment industry.

However inconspicuous it was, when the staff member who was entering the information calmly glanced at the name column on the case, her eyes widened uncontrollably.

She couldn't help but stop typing on the keyboard, and then looked in disbelief at the man in front of the window who hadn't said a word since he sat down.

As soon as she looked into Shi Guilin's beautiful peach blossom eyes beneath his hat, she was sure of the man's identity—it was actually Shi Guilin!!!

Holy shit! My idol has a child?!

Biological? !

She was startled by the sudden guess that popped up in her head, and then she vaguely realized that her window was for adoptions in the civil affairs department.

Phew. She immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, fortunately, her idol wasn't married.

But the male god is going to be a single dad.

After trying her best to digest this shocking situation, she opened her mouth and said incoherently: "When..."

"Shh..." Shi Guilin raised his index finger to his lips, interrupting her in time, his voice gentle, "Please keep it a secret."

"Yeah." The staff member nodded repeatedly, made a zipper-closing and mouth-shutting gesture, took several deep breaths, suppressed his slightly trembling fingers, maintained his professionalism, and continued to input.

"Here you go." She returned the documents to Shi Guilin and added considerately, "You just need to go to window number three to submit the proof and you can get the adoption certificate."

"Thank you." Shi Guilin curved his eyes, took the documents and went straight to the last processing point.

After layers of screening by civil servants, the two met the adoption requirements and the adoption relationship between the relevant parties was supported.

Outside the People's Government.

Shi Guilin lowered his head and looked at the words "Adoption Registration Certificate" on the red cover. He felt the reality of his role as a father. It was as if he had suddenly carried a heavy burden on his shoulders, but also a sense of security.

Nian Nian in his arms noticed that Shi Guilin was staring at the red book for a long time, and regardless of whether she could understand it or not, she reached out to take it.

Shi Guilin did not stop him and let him take it with indulgence. His gentle gaze shifted from the adoption registration certificate to Nian Nian's fuzzy face.

It’s so nice, the pink and tender little peach in his arms was brought back by him when he returned to the forest.

Nian Nian squinted his eyes like an old man reading a newspaper and stared at the adoption certificate for a while. After a long moment, he frowned and babbled something.

"Papa? Nian Nian, no, I can't."

Shi Guilin's lips dimpled due to his smile. He jokingly accused her, his voice doting, "You still want to read it even though you don't understand it, you little fool."

"Woo, papa." After being scolded, Nian Nian pouted.

The feeling of joy and satisfaction in his heart became more and more full. As soon as Shi Guilin got into the car with the baby, he couldn't wait to take off his mask and gave Nian Nian a big kiss.

"Baby, call daddy."

Nian Nian was very obedient: "Papa."

"From now on, I am the father who loves Nian Nian the most in the world, and Nian Nian is my only little baby. Are you happy?"

Although Shi Guilin was asking Nian Nian, the joy in his eyes was like floating colorful bubbles that kept bursting out of his eye sockets and filled the carriage.

"Hey, papa." Nian Nian used her hands and feet to hug Shi Guilin's neck tightly and kiss him affectionately.

Just as Shi Guilin's positive expression would invisibly infect him, Xiaotuanzi was also generous in expressing his love for his father: "Nian Nian, love, papa."

Every word is not pronounced correctly, but that’s okay, because love has no standards.

After receiving the adoption certificate, the two returned home. When they arrived home, Wang Xiulin and Shi Jianfeng were directing the servants to lay the carpet.

They were all fresh from the dry cleaners. Some were simple wool blankets, others were thick pile rugs with lots of cartoon prints.

The two elderly people were originally arguing over which tile to lay, neither able to convince the other. But when Nian Nian returned, they stopped arguing and let Nian Nian choose. She could choose whatever tile she chose, even if the styles didn't match. Nian Nian was also dazzled by the choices, and the whole family was excited.

Taking advantage of this gap, Shi Guilin sneaked out.

Deep down, Shi Guilin felt like a bit of a coward.

I had already gone to the hospital to check Nian Nian's body, but I didn't dare to check myself again.

But he didn't dare. If the conclusion he came to was that the situation had worsened, he would be unable to control himself and fall into an emotional trap the moment he left the doctor's office.

That state... Shi Guilin closed his eyes, unwilling to recall it.

He looked so ugly at that time, and he didn't want Nian Nian to see her father like this. In that case, he decided to secretly go to the hospital and check it out alone.

After arriving at the hospital, Shi Guilin walked into the corridor that he had walked countless times with ease, and finally stopped in front of a wooden door.

He lowered his raven-blue eyelashes, touched the door handle, paused for a moment, and finally turned it firmly:

"Long time no see, Dr. Chi."
