Chapter 23 Nian Nian's Talent Value
As expected, the next day, the man, the puppy and the dog got up late.
Fortunately, today is Saturday, and everyone in the Shi family got up half an hour later than usual. In comparison, the one hour that Shi Guilin and his friend got up later seemed insignificant.
Today, Nian Nian's breakfast was milk powder prepared by Shi Linzhuo and a small portion of thin-skinned meat-filled dumplings cooked in advance by Wang Xiulin.
When Nian Nian saw the meat dumplings, she exclaimed "Wow" and took out her own small white dumplings from her pocket to compare them with the meat dumplings on the plate.
It seems so.
Nian Nian came to this conclusion. He felt that the small white dumplings in his hand and the meat dumplings on the plate were a family, just like him and his father and grandmother, they were relatives.
He was lost in his thoughts when Wang Xiulin scooped up a dumpling with a spoon and said, "Niannian, take a bite and see if it's delicious."
Nian Nian sat upright, held out the small white dumpling in her hand, and sternly refused with a pouty face: "Grandma, Nian Nian, I don't want to eat it."
Wang Xiulin was puzzled for a moment, then glanced at the little doll dumplings in Nian Nian's hand and said with a smile, "Nian Nian, the dumplings on the plate are different from the ones in your hand. You can eat them, and they're really delicious."
Nian Nian pretended to be Shi Jianfeng reading financial news and began to think about why it was different.
After three minutes, he was unable to think of anything and was defeated by Wang Xiulin's repeated "It's delicious". He opened his mouth hesitantly and said, "Ah——"
Wang Xiulin held up a spoon and fed him a cooled one.
As soon as the dumpling slipped into his mouth, Nian Nian regretted it: he had eaten Xiao Baijiao's relatives. He felt sorry for Xiao Baijiao.
The more Nian Nian thought about it, the more guilty she felt. As she was chewing, her lips turned down and her eyes became red. She couldn't even lower her head to look at the little white dumpling in her hand.
Wang Xiulin was shocked by his expression: "Is it not tasty? Nian Nian, don't cry. If it doesn't taste good, just spit it out. Don't cry, don't cry, ah."
Nian Nian swallowed the dumpling with tearful eyes, fluttered her eyelashes twice calmly, smacked her lips savoringly, and said from the bottom of her heart, "Grandma. Yes."
Wang Xiulin saw that although he had a wronged look on his face, he was still willing to eat, so she didn't ask any more questions and just fed him one by one.
The plate was quickly empty, and the five small meat dumplings were gone in a few minutes.
Nian Nian swallowed the last bite, raised the back of her hand to wipe her wet eyes, and "deeply repented" to the little white dumpling in her hand:
I'm sorry, Nian Nian is a bad kid. I ate your father, grandfather, grandmother, brother, and aunt. But your family is so delicious that Nian Nian couldn't help herself.
That's right, the little guy assigned the names of specific relatives to the meat dumplings on the plate according to his own network of relationships, which made him feel even more guilty when eating them.
He meditated and chatted with Xiao Baijiao for a while, and was spotted by Shi Nanqi who came downstairs. He picked her up in his arms and said, "Are you bored, Nian Nian? Do you want me to take you out to play?"
Nian Nian clung to Shi Nanxi's arm and happily twirled her ankle, clad in blue socks. His aunt smelled sweet, and he loved playing with her.
Shi Nanqi smiled and said, "Let's go."
She remembered that a toy room had been cleaned up on the second floor in the past two days. The whole room was covered with thick woolen blankets, allowing Nian Nian to roll around freely. Apart from two short tatami mats, there were no furniture with sharp corners such as stools and tables, making it extremely safe.
Shi Nanqi pushed open the door of the toy room, took off his slippers and left them outside, and stepped on the fluffy carpet in his socks like Nian Nian.
"Be good, Nian Nian. I'll find some songs for you."
Shi Nanqi suddenly became excited, unlocked his phone, looked through the playlist, found a few songs with a clear sense of rhythm, turned up the volume, and pressed the play button.
"La, la la, la la la..." Shi Nanqi started the tune, snapped her fingers, and guided Nian Nian to follow the rhythm of the music with her.
Nian Nian was in standby mode for the first few seconds after hearing the music, but because the rhythm of the song was too distinct, and Shi Nanqi's guidance was too strong, he subconsciously raised his lips, revealing two rows of small teeth, and swayed his hands and feet to the music, unable to help humming:
“Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey…”
A flicker of surprise crossed Shi Nanqi's eyes as she silently counted Nian Nian's beats. As the song progressed past the halfway mark, her smile widened, her surprise hard to conceal.
Until the end of the song, Shi Nanqi pressed the pause button, and Nian Nian used her hands to pry open her two little feet that were still a little restless, and barely stopped herself from shaking her head.
He crawled forward and coquettishly pulled Shi Nanqi's arm: "Auntie, Nian Nian wants it."
It means I want to continue listening.
Shi Nanqi's brows were filled with joy. She looked up at the ceiling and exhaled, trying her best to calm the strange excitement and trembling in her heart that was about to discover some kind of talent, so that she could remain calm and rational enough in the future.
"Okay, play another song for our little Nian Nian."
Shi Nanqi teased Nian Nian by lifting her chin, then flicked the screen to play a song. This time, she thought for a minute before finding a song that was a step up in difficulty from the previous one, and then clicked play.
She kept the beat with her hands, leading Nian Nian to express her musical sense.
…
The song ended gracefully. Shi Nanqi was unusually speechless. She looked at Nian Nian in disbelief and murmured, "Oh my God..."
Nian Nian's face flushed red after dancing for a long time, but he was still not satisfied and urged softly, "Auntie, I want it."
"I'll let you keep putting it in," Shi Nanxi agreed without saying anything, circling her index finger, "Let Auntie find out about Nian Nian's background."
This time she was very bold and chose a song with a varied melody and a beat that was almost inaudible due to the singing.
If Nian Nian could hit most of the beats correctly like this... Shi Nanqi's eyes lit up with astonishment. Her Nian Nian's future musical attainments were destined to be far greater than her own.

Next to the coffee table on the first floor.
"Are you going to take Nian Nian to the Jiang family?" Shi Guilin suddenly lost his appetite and put the half-peeled grapes back on the fruit plate.
Shi Jianfeng frowned and glanced at him, shaking the newspaper in his hand vigorously. "Why are you so scornful? Can I harm Nian Nian? Besides, Old Jiang and I are old friends. Can't I let him see my extra grandson?"
"I know."
Shi Guilin muttered reluctantly, "Isn't it that the Jiang family's kid has..." He hesitated, the word "mental illness" circling around in his mouth, but he didn't say it out loud. Instead, he said, "The kid's health isn't good. I'm worried that he won't be able to play with Nian Nian, and it might backfire."
"Hmph." Shi Jianfeng's nose shuddered, knowing full well that his son was probably worried about Nian Nian getting bullied. But that made no sense; his old man's love for Nian Nian was no less than Shi Guilin's.
"What could possibly happen under my nose? It's just a meeting. He's the grandson of my sworn friend after all. I'll make my own decisions after meeting him."
Shi Guilin stopped talking.
Seeing this, Shi Jianfeng pinched the frame of his glasses with two fingers, took off his glasses, and said in a low and deep voice: "I have a hunch. Taking Nian Nian with me will be a sure thing."
