Chapter 006 Ineffective Parenting (1/2)

Chapter Six

Upon hearing this, Xu Heming blushed. It was his fault for failing to raise his son properly; otherwise, how could he have done such a thing?

“Young lady, it is my fault for failing to raise my son properly and causing you trouble. Perhaps I should send someone to escort you home,” Xu Heming said apologetically to Li Zhiwei.

“Father, you can’t be so heartless, can you? You’re going to send her back to the Marquis of Ru’an’s residence to suffer those scornful looks? Father, you’re not helping this sister, you’re harming her.” Xu Qingshi stepped forward and said with a face full of dissatisfaction.

"Go away, what nonsense are you spouting as a child?" Xu Heming was speechless, but because Li Zhiwei was there, he couldn't scold him too much.

"Father, do you think she's not pretty?" Xu Qingshi looked at Li Zhiwei with some confusion, thinking to himself that this woman was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

"Please, Your Highness Prince An, grant me a way to live." Li Zhiwei knew that if Prince An really sent her back, what awaited her would be no different from her previous life.

Since Heaven has given her a second chance at life, it certainly won't let her waste it.

Xu Heming was stunned and didn't understand for a moment. If this person was the daughter-in-law betrothed by the Marquis of Ru'an, how could she have no way out?

“Your Highness, the Marquis of Ru’an’s family pretended to want to marry me, but in reality, they married the Zhou family’s daughter as their legal wife three days ago. Today, before I even entered the house, they deliberately left me standing outside. Even if I were to enter the Lin family, I would certainly not have a good life. Moreover, my family is of humble origin, and this dowry will not be a source of confidence for me, but rather a death sentence.”

Li Zhiwei noticed Xu Heming's hesitation and, without thinking, knelt down and said...

"How do you want me to help you?" Xu Heming looked at Li Zhiwei, even though he knew that what Li Zhiwei said was true.

Although Xu Heming knew that it was actually inconvenient for him to get involved in this matter, he didn't know why he felt compelled to do so.

Perhaps it was because the Li family's dowry was truly generous. He knew that the Emperor was currently facing a shortage of funds due to the recent floods in the south, and this might be able to alleviate the Emperor's urgent need.

"This humble woman wishes to use these dowry items in exchange for two requests." Li Zhiwei was overjoyed upon hearing this, knowing that since Prince An had not refused, it meant that Prince An was willing to help her.

Even Xu Heming, who had originally gone for Li Zhiwei's dowry, was stunned by Li Zhiwei's words.

He hadn't expected that this Miss Li would be so prescient.

Looking at the red silk chests filling the courtyard, I thought to myself, "She's quite generous."

"What request?" Composing himself, Xu Heming asked directly.

"My first request is to dissolve my marriage with the Lin family, and my second request is that Your Highness protect my parents," Li Zhiwei quickly said.

"That's all?" Xu Heming was a little surprised. He thought she might propose to marry him and become a princess. For some reason, Xu Heming was a little disappointed.

After all, my son likes pretty people, and he actually likes pretty girls too.

The reason he hadn't remarried before was simply because he felt that those other women weren't as beautiful as his first wife.

Unfortunately, his queen was also unlucky.

"Your Highness, I wonder if my 1,360 loads of dowry can bring peace to my parents?" Li Zhiwei emphasized her generous dowry again.

"He'er, what do you think about this matter...?" The old princess was still somewhat soft-hearted, thinking to herself, this girl is actually willing to use her future as a guarantee to ask for two small favors.

Moreover, it's not good to leave so much dowry piled up in the Prince An's mansion. Besides, as the former Princess Consort, she naturally thought about the floods in the south.
