Chapter Twenty
"Master, what did Miss say in her letter?" Uncle Zhou asked worriedly, seeing Li Tianyou's anxious expression.
“Zhiwei didn’t marry into the Lin family,” Li Tianyou said through gritted teeth.
"What? But the Lin family isn't..." Uncle Zhou wanted to say that the Lin family came to ask for Miss's hand in marriage, so how could Miss not have married into the Lin family?
Could it be that the Lin family has ulterior motives in proposing to marry the young lady?
Thinking of this, Uncle Zhou couldn't help but feel alarmed, considering his master's vast fortune.
"Master, did Miss discover the Lin family's intentions, which is why she didn't marry into the Lin family?" Uncle Zhou knew Li Zhiwei well; Miss would never use the entire Li family to fill the gap in the Marquis of Ru'an's mansion.
"That must be it. Zhiwei donated her dowry to the imperial court, presumably to protect the Li family." Li Tianyou sighed. He knew his daughter; her purpose in doing so was definitely to protect the family.
"Master, what else did Miss say in the letter?" Uncle Zhou asked, seeing Li Tianyou becoming increasingly distressed. He quickly changed the subject.
After all, Wu Sanke was still waiting for his master to come to the capital.
"Zhiwei asked me to prepare 500,000 taels of silver and 300,000 shi of grain for the floods in the south." Thinking of this, Li Tianyou quickly ordered people to make the preparations.
"Master, the official is still waiting. Why don't you go and see him first?" Uncle Zhou said quickly, thinking of Wu San.
"Yes, I should go see him." Only then did Li Tianyou remember that there was also Wu San.
"Sir, I am truly sorry that I am late." Li Tianyou smiled and bowed to Wu San, saying apologetically.
"Mr. Li, the great philanthropist." Wu San stood up and returned the greeting.
This man is Prince An's father-in-law; Wu San dares not offend him.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, sir. The news came so suddenly that I was caught off guard," Li Tianyou said to Wu San somewhat apologetically.
"It's alright. I hope that the benevolent Mr. Li will be prepared and that I can go to the palace to meet the Emperor as soon as possible," Wu San quickly said.
“Yes, but my daughter’s letter mentions a lot of things that need to be prepared, which may take a day. Why don’t you rest at your residence for a while, and then we can make some preparations before heading to the palace?” Li Tianyou asked cautiously.
“Of course it is possible.” Wu San knew that Li Tianyou would need time to prepare food and money.
"Thank you, sir." Li Tianyou breathed a sigh of relief.
Li Tianyou didn't dare to delay any longer, as going to the capital to meet the emperor was an extremely urgent matter.
Prince An's Mansion
Xu Qingshi frowned as he watched the Minister of Revenue move all of Li Zhiwei's belongings away.
Li Zhiwei has moved all her things away, so how is she going to buy herself a lock?
When Xu Qingshi saw Tang Xiuyong, the Minister of Revenue, about to have Li Zhiwei's canopy bed and coffin carried away, he could no longer hold back and stepped forward to block Tang Xiuyong's path.
"Wait!" Xu Qingshi crossed his arms and looked at Tang Xiuyong with dissatisfaction.
"Oh, young master, what's the matter?" Tang Xiuyong smiled so much that his eyes narrowed when he saw Xu Qing.
You must know, the young prince played a crucial role in enabling their national treasury to receive such a dowry.
"Lord Tang, you can leave those things behind, but please leave these two!" Xu Qingshi looked at the two men with a furrowed brow.
He didn't know why such things would be included in a person's dowry.
"This..." Tang Xiuyong was somewhat embarrassed. After all, the Emperor had personally instructed him to put Li Zhiwei's dowry into the national treasury.
"Lord Tang, this bed and this black box aren't worth much." Little Xu Qingshi didn't know what a coffin was for, but to him, it was just a wooden box.
