Chapter 31 Trading Daughters for Freedom (1/2)

Chapter Thirty-One

"Mother, this is my third aunt. Third aunt, this is the new mother my father married for me." Xu Qingshi stepped forward enthusiastically, took Li Zhiwei's hand, and said.

Li Zhiwei was somewhat surprised. After all, Xu Qingshi's attitude towards her had always been a bit strange, but it was by no means enthusiastic.

"So it's Miss Zhou San." Li Zhi smiled and nodded to Zhou Yuying.

Zhou Yuying looked at Li Zhiwei. She hadn't even had a chance to go find her, but Li Zhiwei had already come knocking on her door.

She wanted to see what kind of woman dared to steal her man.

"This must be Miss Li? I've heard that Miss Li is engaged to the heir of the Marquis of Ru'an, Lin. But I wonder how you ended up at the Prince An's residence?" Zhou Yuying asked Li Zhiwei without any politeness.

"It seems that Miss Zhou's information is not very reliable." Li Zhiwei had long sensed the malice Zhou Yuying was casting at her.

In her previous life, she tolerated everything, but in the end, she was bullied by the Marquis of Ru'an's mansion until she was left with nothing but bones.

Heaven gave her a second chance at life, not so that she could be a pushover.

Moreover, now that she is the mistress of the Prince An's mansion, she knows without even thinking where Zhou Yuying's hostility comes from.

She wanted to marry Prince An.

"Is Miss Li showing off to me?" How could Zhou Yuying not hear the sarcasm in Li Zhiwei's words?

She knew about her affair with Prince An, of course, but she didn't want to admit it.

Why should the man she went to so much trouble to marry get to be the one who benefits her?

“Miss Zhou, I’m just telling you a fact. It’s true that I have a marriage agreement with the Marquis of Ru’an’s family, but the Emperor himself granted my request to dissolve the engagement. Does Miss Zhou think she’s more powerful than the Emperor?” Li Zhiwei asked with a light laugh.

Even though Zhou Yuying hated Li Zhiwei, she dared not say that Li Zhiwei was more powerful than the Emperor.

But the seeds of jealousy had taken root and sprouted in her heart. Why was this merchant girl so lucky?

"Miss Li is just a merchant's daughter. Does she really think she can uphold the reputation of the Prince An's Mansion? Isn't she afraid of disgracing the Prince An's Mansion?" Zhou Yuying felt that she was, after all, a daughter of an official, and no matter what, she was better than Li Zhiwei.

He would go to the old princess himself, and if she agreed, it was hard to say who would become the princess.

"Oh? So what? As long as you have enough money, what kind of face can't you have?" Li Zhiwei said, looking Zhou Yuying up and down. Although the Zhou family was an official family, they were actually just an ordinary family.

In Li Zhiwei's eyes, Zhou Yuying's outfit was indeed somewhat lacking.

"Do you think the noble families of the capital are as money-grubbing as those in your Li'an County?" Zhou Yuying thought to herself, "They really are from the merchants; all they talk about are gold and silver."

“Miss Zhou doesn’t seem to have any money-grubbing about her. The hairpins in her hair are all worn smooth from use. It’s a pity.” After saying that, Li Zhiwei quickly covered her mouth and said, “Oh dear, I’m sorry for speaking my mind. Miss Zhou, please don’t take offense.”

Li Zhiwei's words truly made Zhou Yuying feel ashamed.

The gold hairpin in her hair was her favorite and the one she was most proud of, but now she was being ridiculed because of it by a merchant's daughter.

Zhou Yuying raised her hand, intending to slap Li Zhiwei.
