The morning sun had just begun to shine on the earth when Qingyan was awakened by Sulan's shouts...
She looked at Su Lan in confusion. Father should be going to court, why did he have to get up so early? She touched the pocket watch beside her pillow.
wipe!
It's going to kill her, it's only five o'clock.
Every day, she would sleep until she naturally woke up. Su Lan never woke her up in advance. Why had the painting changed today? She must have been looking at it wrong. She quickly closed her eyes.
"Princess, the master said that he is preparing a banquet for noble ladies and socialites today, and asked you to prepare invitations and other items in advance," Su Lan said helplessly.
Qingyan turned over in bed. She didn't like this kind of life, always having to revolve around the same few topics.
invitation?!
She rarely goes out, and has only a few close friends, most of whom are already married.
“Princess, the master said that you need to get used to your wake-up time. After entering the palace, you should get up and prepare to pay your respects!” Sulan earnestly advised.
Qingyan reluctantly got up, pouting, and inwardly cursed Sisi.
She had been looking forward to married life, but now, all of that is just wishful thinking; she even has to cut back on sleep.
Waaaaah!
How am I supposed to live like this?!
“The Fourth Prince has to get up at 1:15 AM, you’re already late!” Su Lan led her maids in carrying washing utensils.
Qingyan nodded helplessly, knowing in her heart that they were doing it for her own good.
"Alright, let's hurry up." Qingyan felt a headache coming on at the thought of writing those invitations.
Jue Luo Shi never instructed her on these matters; she left everything to her. It's truly baffling.
"Suxin, go and fetch Granny Liao." Qingyan said to Suxin while having Sulan comb her hair.
She saw that Su Lan wanted to put a whole set of rose hair ornaments made of red coral into her hair, and she shook her head slightly.
Normally, she dislikes these heavy headdresses the most.
"Master, this is a bit too plain." Su Lan's slightly regretful look made Qing Yan want to laugh.
Qingyan pouted and looked at Sulan with a wronged expression.
On the surface, Su Lan was her servant, but in private, she entrusted many things to Su Lan.
She knew that Yin was extremely worried that Su Lan would betray him.
"Master, breakfast is ready. Today, we have your favorite char siu buns," Su Xin said to Qing Yan as she entered from outside.
Pfft!
Qingyan chuckled, and couldn't help but think of the modern definition of char siu!
As Liao Mama walked to the door, she heard laughter coming from the inner chamber, and her brows furrowed.
"That's enough, I'm sober now, no need to tease me anymore!" Qingyan heard Liao Mama's footsteps; the old lady was very particular about etiquette.
Su Lan and Su Xin are undoubtedly challenging Granny Liao's bottom line.
She helped Su Lan, who was standing on three-inch flowerpot soles, and they walked out gracefully.
As she gets older, she has to wear platform shoes at home, because they are not as comfortable as embroidered shoes.
As long as Si Si was around, how could she not listen to Granny Liao? With the wedding day approaching, even Fei Yanggu rarely disagreed with Granny Liao anymore.
"This servant greets the princess!" Granny Liao nodded in satisfaction as she watched Qingyan sit dignifiedly at the table with a straight face.
Qingyan felt rather uncomfortable; when would this pretentious act finally end?
"Granny, in a few days, we'll be holding a Hundred Flowers Banquet at the new house. I've never done this before, so please come tomorrow and see what we need to prepare," Qingyan said to Granny Liao.
"Yes!" Granny Liao was very dutiful. Seeing that Qingyan was about to have a meal, she bowed and took her leave.
After Granny Liao left, Su Lan and Su Xin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Qingyan chuckled. Granny Liao had been a nanny in the palace for decades, and her authority was ingrained in her bones. She was definitely more authoritative than the nannies in the mansion.
“Princess, we don’t even dare to breathe loudly in front of Granny Liao.” Su Lan patted her chest and picked up an ivory hairpin to serve Jingyan her meal.
Qingyan shook her head and ate the char siu buns that the small kitchen had specially made for her. Not bad. Hot and sour noodles were also brought to her. The sour and spicy taste made her feel much better.
She loved to eat, so Si Si specially prepared several chefs with excellent skills, including one imperial chef who had been released from the palace. She often used the takeout dishes to tease the imperial chefs.
whee.....
"Princess, this should be used sparingly." Qingyan was not required to go through the selection process for marriage, and many of the rules were not followed.
Now, Sulan and Suxin need to keep a close eye on things to prevent any trouble from happening when they enter the palace.
She looked at the two maids suspiciously. "Fourth Prince knows too?"
"When paying respects to the Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager, we should use less strongly flavored food," Su Lan muttered softly.
Immediately, Qingyan was speechless with disbelief. How was she supposed to live like this?
The Empress Dowager's health was deteriorating. In the past few days, she had noticed that the Mongolian concubines in the Cining Palace were entering and leaving more and more frequently, which made her feel a little strange.
"Hmm, we'll talk about it after we enter the palace. I'll make something light in the morning." Qingyan didn't take these things to heart.
After breakfast, she picked up a cup of jasmine tea and began looking at the account books in front of her. She had to admit that with the new system, the number of corrupt people had decreased significantly.
Around noon, Yin Feng arrived, looking travel-worn, and immediately dismissed all the servants.
"Little darling, when Su Mo'er comes back in a bit, remember, if she asks you for ginseng or he shou wu, you have to tell her that the person who went out on business hasn't returned yet!" Yin said anxiously to Little darling without even taking a sip of water.
She was bewildered by his seemingly random remark.
