Chapter 227 Setting up camp

The morning sunlight shone through the window, and Qingyan got up early for the first time. Sulan and Suxin helped her wash up before she started packing.

She strolled slowly to the dining room, where Fei Yanggu and the others were already seated, waiting for Xiao Guai alone.

Qingyan's cheeks flushed slightly. They had all gotten used to the time for court, and Qingyan would often throw a tantrum and stay in bed!

"Little Darling is up?" All four of them looked on with curiosity.

During these past few days of travel, Qingyan had been sleeping until she naturally woke up, and no one could wake her up. Now, she got up on her own, which naturally aroused their curiosity.

"Yes, I told you to wake me up!" Qingyan pouted, a little angry. These people didn't want Qingyan to have a bad night's sleep; they wanted her to calm down.

After quickly finishing his breakfast, Qingyan boarded the carriage with Yin, followed by three newly purchased carriages filled with the grains that Qingyan had specially prepared.

An hour later, Qingyan put down her book, and the air was filled with a foul stench.

She peered out the carriage window and saw that they were passing a stream, with some excrement and dead fish around them.

The fish were all belly up, and not many people paid them any attention.

Damn it!

Qingyan cursed inwardly, for these were the sources of the plague.

"Little darling, what's wrong?" Yin came up behind her and saw the little one glaring angrily outside.

The things by the stream relieved him; this was how people usually lived. They had been moved to the disaster relief tents, so they must have done this near the water source.

"This won't do. Those fish are all infected with disease. We need to take them out." Qingyan frowned, flipping through the small cabinet beside her, which was neatly filled with basic books.

"Si Si, look here!" Qing Yan deliberately printed the modern epidemic prevention measures in the space system in the form of rare miscellaneous books, so that even if he showed them, it wouldn't be exposed.

Yin took the book and looked at the things written on it; much of it was things Yin had never known before.

As Yin read through the environmental problems that caused frequent disasters, he couldn't help but frown.

"If we follow the method above, we should be able to prevent it, right?" Yin looked at Qingyan. It was clearly written on the document that quicklime should be used for disinfection.

"Yes, there are also some recipes for preventing the epidemic. Look, it says garlic porridge!" Qingyan turned to the last page, which contained some recipes.

Yin was secretly delighted; his little darling was a lucky star!

Such books are not available elsewhere.

"Where did you get these?" Yin asked Qingyan. These things needed to be given to Father Emperor.

“My father bought four boxes of books from an antique dealer to decorate the study. I saw them myself.” Fei Yanggu likes to buy books, but he never looks at what’s inside.

A scholar-general!

These two words, when applied to Fei Yanggu, can only be described as having a superficial meaning, Yin laughed.

Around noon, the group finally arrived at the disaster area. Looking out from the carriage, Qingyan saw rows of tents already set up, and in front of the tents were several large black pots.

The officials from the Ministry of Revenue who were escorting the grain and the officials from Qingyan who were arranging the procurement had already arrived.

"Sulan, just like when we went to war, make soup from the bones and other ingredients." Qingyan looked at the stove and saw a lot of white steamed buns, which were made by the locals to save time.

As soon as Su Lan got off the carriage, a group of people surrounded her. Qing Yan applied a layer of dark foundation to her face in front of the small mirror. Yin couldn't help but be stunned. What was Xiao Guai planning to do? Why did she have to dress herself up so ugly?

"Fourth Brother, won't we attract attention like this?" Qingyan turned to look at Yin, her appearance was too outstanding.

There are human traffickers in the disaster area, and she didn't want to cause any unnecessary trouble.

Yin nodded. Xiao Guai had really grown up. He didn't need to remind her, but Qing Yan had already thought of these things.

Upon arriving at the main tent, the guards quickly surrounded Yin and Qingyan's carriage. Qingyan helped Suxin down from the carriage. The women dared not look in their direction, and the men remained engrossed in their tasks, refusing to glance over.

Qingyan couldn't help but smile. This delightful reaction was probably because they were afraid of being troubled by Yin.

"Suxin, let's change our clothes and hurry over to the stove." Fei Yanggu had Saito accompany Yin and Qingyan, while he and E'shuo went straight to work on storing the grain.

Qingyan changed into a cotton dress and tied her hair into a bun with silk thread. She walked forward with Yin, who had also changed his clothes.

Upon arriving at the open space where the tents were located, the women had already begun washing the slaughtered mutton that had been brought to them.

They haven't eaten meat since the disaster.

"This servant greets Fourth Master and Princess." The local prefect quickly bowed to Yin and Qingyan. These two were the apple of Kangxi's eye and were absolutely not to be misbehaved.

Yin waved his hand impatiently, and the surrounding people knelt down one after another. Yin smiled faintly.

"Let's all get up and kowtow." In his previous life, Yin lived and ate with the people during disaster relief efforts. Now that he has Xiao Guai, he will be more vigilant, but he will not back down.

"Alright, everyone, let's get started. Don't shave the meat off the bones. After washing them, just put them directly into the pot." Qingyan's clear voice was pleasant to listen to, and several women secretly glanced at her.

She is young, but very opinionated.

"Sulan, go and get the dried cilantro and chopped scallions I brought." Qingyan looked at the mountain of lamb bones, thinking about making lamb soup to finish off the white flour buns that had been given to her.

"Princess, I am in charge of the stove." Several women in their forties were led over by Su Xin. These past few days, they had been in charge of things at the stove.

"Well, boil all the water we fetched before using it. Who among you knows how to build a stove? Let's get a few more stoves. Do you have any empty iron pots?" The women looked at Qingyan, who was small, and were somewhat resentful. Yin had been standing behind Qingyan the whole time, so they didn't dare to say anything more.

"There are still three more people!" the leading woman said quickly. "Zhang family, hurry up and tell your husband and his brothers to come over and fix the stove."

Yin stood to the side, helping Qingyan direct the guards to assist.

"Sister-in-law, please have a few young women peel one-third of the garlic that has been delivered," Qingyan ordered sternly.

"Princess, I am a woman from the Yu family, you can just call me Yu!" The woman glanced at Yin out of the corner of her eye. She didn't dare to say a word. Seeing Qingyan directing things so freely, she assumed it was a special arrangement by Yin.

Qingyan nodded, watching as Sulan prepared the things. Two guards who had accompanied Yin on his campaigns were chopping sheep bones.

The children were drawn to the mutton, their eyes gleaming with longing. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please vote for it on Qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
