When Yin Qingyan saw Yin Zhi hear Yin's question, he immediately sat in the seat of honor. Yin sat on the left and Yin Zhi sat on the right. Dong Eshi, however, was left standing at the door by the group. She kept looking bitterly at her younger brother. Putting everything else aside, Yin had a good in-law family. Even his primary consort was so capable and did not bring any trouble to Yin.
She held her teacup, glancing at Dong E out of the corner of her eye. In her presence, Dong E had always been haughty and arrogant, but now...
"Oh, it's nothing. When Princess Wang was giving birth, the imperial physicians were called too slowly, which almost led to a tragedy." Yin Zhi did not want to air his family's dirty laundry in public, even though Dong E had schemed against Princess Wang and even her illegitimate son.
If Princess Wang hadn't had her maids summon Yinzhi, she and her child would probably be dead.
"It's understandable that the imperial physicians might be delayed because of the Empress Dowager's poor health," Yin said, acting like the eldest son, warning Yin Zhi not to cause any more trouble.
The Empress Dowager passed away ahead of schedule, and much of this was due to Yinzhi's efforts. From Emperor Kangxi down to the princes, everyone was furious with Yinzhi's lack of filial piety.
Yin Zhi sat silently to the side, while Yin Genjue Luo Shi, along with Qing Yan, helped Dong E Shi leave the main hall.
As soon as she entered Dong Eshi's room, she burst into tears. From a young age, Dong Eshi had been groomed by the family to be the best, but after marriage, she was surpassed by Dong E Wan Ning. Even Dong E Qi Shi said that Dong E Wan Ning was more considerate than Dong Eshi.
Upon hearing this, Dong E's expression turned even more unpleasant.
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, are you upset? Is this my fault? Just now, I was chatting with you." Dong Eshi felt aggrieved. She had already left the prince's residence, so how could she have known that Princess Wang was going to give birth so soon?
After being summoned back by Wang Gege's maid, Yin Zhi immediately attacked her, leaving her still completely bewildered.
Qingyan was secretly delighted. Dong'e was always causing her trouble, but now that Yinzhi had reprimanded her, she couldn't be happier.
"Third Sister-in-law, the Empress Dowager's health is not good, and the imperial physicians may be negligent. The Third Prince should understand!" Qingyan thought for a moment and realized that it was acceptable to subtly provoke her.
Qingyan's words struck a chord with Dong'e. How much had she done for the Third Prince? Yet he treated her this way. Looking at her two sisters-in-law, both Yinzhi and Yinzhi had done better than Yinzhi.
"Sister-in-law, you tell me, the timing of Princess Wang's son's birth is terrible. I sent a servant to Cining Palace to announce the good news, but Granny Su's face was extremely grim. When we returned and reported, not only was there no reward, but Granny Su simply nodded and dismissed us." Dong Eshi was bitter. Yin Zhi only cared about his own feelings; his favored concubine had given birth to a prince, but he hadn't found love yet.
The First Lady and Qingyan exchanged a glance. Granny Su had deep feelings for the Empress Dowager. The old lady suddenly fell ill, but Yinzhi gained another son.
There must have been some secrets among the ancients. They believed that this child was incompatible with the Empress Dowager's fate; otherwise, Emperor Kangxi would not have sent people from the Imperial Observatory to the Hall of Mental Cultivation.
"You always argue with Yinzhi. Have you explained the seriousness of the situation to him?" The First Princess Consort believed that the Third Princess Consort must not have explained it clearly, otherwise, Yinzhi would not be so unreasonable.
"Hmph!" Dong Eshi snorted at the doctor, then began to talk to her two sisters-in-law about her return.
Qingyan watched the show from the sidelines, offering little opinion, her eyes darting around nervously.
It was nearly eight o'clock when the two left the Third Prince's residence. Qingyan was still confused by what Dong E had said.
"Fourth Prince, things are really commotion over there!" Qingyan sighed, "Third Sister-in-law and Third Prince are making quite a scene, and Princess Wang is clearly in labor. It's all a farce."
Yin laughed, knowing that Lady Dong'e must have complained to Qingyan.
His situation was the same; this couple was truly a family.
"My little darling," Yin kissed her soft little face, hugged her tightly, and sat her down at the desk. He smelled the faint scent of osmanthus emanating from her long, loose hair, and couldn't help but squint his eyes and take a deep breath. "Don't get involved in the situation over there. The Empress Dowager's condition is not good, and Kangxi and Granny Su are both in a bad mood. This illegitimate son will be remembered."
Emperor Kangxi probably wished this grandson had never appeared. He was a man who cared about his image, and while he wouldn't do anything underhanded in public, he certainly wouldn't care too much in private.
"Sisi, is it really impossible to keep that child?" Qingyan kept thinking that the child had just been born. People say that human nature is inherently good, but the sins of the parents should be borne by a child.
Yin raised his head and quietly cleared the table, shaking his head helplessly. This child was destined not to grow up healthy, unless Wang Gege's methods were strong enough to withstand Dong Eshi's schemes.
"Little darling, don't feel sorry. From birth, the royal princes are destined to be selected based on merit." Yin looked at Qingyan. The struggles among the royal princes were beyond what ordinary people could imagine.
In ordinary families, the children fighting over the inheritance don't necessarily risk their lives; at most, they start from scratch. But for the princes, a slight misstep can lead to their downfall.
Yin couldn't help but think of his past life. Yin and his brother were role models for all of them, the princes. When they were young, they admired them and hoped to be as strong as their elder brother and the crown prince when they entered the princes' quarters.
She coldly watched as Yin was lost in thought, then directly replaced the tea with warm tea made with honeysuckle and bitter tea, to help Yin reduce his internal heat.
A moment later, Yin didn't look at the tea in his hand. He took two sips and the taste that entered his mouth was no longer that of sour plum juice, but rather a bitter taste.
“Little darling…” Yin’s eyes were filled with anger. Why didn’t the little guy say anything good when he changed the subject?
"Sisi, you should use more of this." Qingyan always uses bitter tea to cool down in the summer.
Qingyan held a teacup, sipping the warm bitter tea, her little head resting on Yin's shoulder, a hint of smugness on her lips.
"Yes, Sulan, bring me another cup of plum juice. From now on, you are not allowed to change it to bitter tea!" Yin doesn't like bitter tea, and he only prepared it for Xiaoguai because the little guy likes to drink it.
Just as Yin was about to hand over the teacup, Xiao Guai reached out and pressed it down with her paw, her almond-shaped eyes filled with grievance.
She had consulted the imperial physician, who said that it was good for Yin Kuxia to take more bitter herbs, as his gums would always get inflamed.
"The imperial physician said that this will prevent you from getting a sore throat, so why do you insist on taking pills?" Qingyan asked.
Yin opened his mouth in astonishment. Xiao Guai was right; he simply didn't like the bitter taste in his mouth.
"Hmph, so considerate of you!" Qingyan even had the kitchen prepare a cold bitter melon salad as a late-night snack. The dog days of summer are almost here, and if Yin doesn't use more cooling foods, his gums will probably swell up again.
Yin waved his hand, signaling Sulan to leave first.
"The midnight snack will be delicious!" Qingyan revealed a sly smile, and Yin began to feel a headache coming on. This girl was simply his nemesis. (To be continued.
