Chapter 41 Returning at Night

After dinner, both Yin's and his family gathered in the dining hall to discuss when to go to Kangxi's place. Qingyan overheard Yin's words and learned that the place was not far from here.

As night fell, she looked out the window and saw only the fishing boats moored together on the beach and the lights of the watchtower on the hilltop to her right; the rest of the area was pitch black.

"Master, are we really going to go there?" Madam Yin Genjue felt it would be more comfortable for them to stay in the fishing village. "That's a military port, can we go in?"

Both the Yin Genjue Luo family and Qing Yan's maternal family were military families. When they encountered such a sensitive place, they tried to get as little involved as possible. Fei Yanggu and his two sons were sent to Qing Yan's side, and they did not want Qing Yan to know more.

"Hmm, it seems that Father Emperor has encountered some problem, otherwise he wouldn't have let us go there!" Only Consort Tong was by Kangxi's side. Could it be that the commander of the navy has not been determined? Yin's own conditions are good. His father, Lady Yin Genjueluo, also said that we must not touch these things.

"Fourth brother, what do you think of eldest brother taking over the navy?" Yin really wanted to leave the Xishan camp and venture out into the world.

Yin shook his head and said, "Brother, this matter is definitely not a small one. If we take any further action, what are you going to do about the Crown Prince?"

The hall fell silent. Yin and Yin were frozen in place, neither daring to cross the line. Kangxi valued the Crown Prince's reputation highly, and neither of them dared to say another word.

"No need to say more, I understand. I won't interfere in the navy's affairs anymore," Yin said with a slight frown.

The navy is a lucrative position, and Heseri will definitely not give it up.

Suo Xiang had been trying to win over court officials, hoping they would say a few words about him to Emperor Kangxi.

"Brother, I think it's a good idea to give up this opportunity!" Yin advised directly.

The censors in the imperial court kept offering their advice, and some even directly interfered in the selection of naval personnel.

"Why?!" Yin also wanted to hear more opinions, and since his advisors weren't around, he could offer more suggestions.

When faced with a problem, Yin preferred to ask Fei Yanggu for his opinion, as he could always offer sound advice.

“Prime Minister Suo will definitely not give up. If we argue with him more, the Crown Prince will remember it.” Yin analyzed, “In addition, the Qing Dynasty’s navy has been stalled since its founding. We have to admit that the Ming Dynasty’s navy was much stronger than ours. When we recovered Taiwan, our navy was really backward. Even if we were to recover Taiwan, it would be a Pyrrhic victory.”

Yin also remembered that Kangxi had been quite worried about the navy during that period. At that time, the conditions were not right to rebuild the navy. Now, Kangxi's ambition was slowly becoming apparent.

Yin Genjueluo and Qingyan listened to Yin's troubles while holding their children, but they couldn't interject. Yin's suggestion was good, and Suo Xiang's series of speeches were probably prepared specifically for this naval commander.

"Brother, let's set off at midnight!" They left under the cover of night, trying their best to remain hidden from outsiders, since the location of the naval dock could not be exposed yet.

Yin was stunned. Why did Ziye leave?

"Why did they leave so late?" Yin was somewhat puzzled.

"The dock cannot be exposed for the time being, so we have to leave under the cover of darkness." With Fei Yanggu's reminder, Yin tried to arrange his time and prepared to go to the dock.

After a moment's hesitation, Yin nodded in agreement with Yin's arrangement.

After meeting up, the two went their separate ways to prepare for their departure. Having gathered enough information near the fishing village, they figured it would be a waste to linger there any longer.

"Leave at midnight!" Yin and Yin checked the time, and the two left immediately.

Just after midnight, all the carriages stopped in front of the Yuelai Inn. Su Lan first put the twins into the carriage, and Qing Yan turned around to look at the innkeeper who was bowing and waiting. She felt a little emotional.

"If anyone asks, don't say when you left," Qingyan instructed the shopkeeper, standing side by side with Yin.

The shopkeeper quickly replied, "This servant will certainly take note, Master. Should this servant put up a sign to close down?"

Qingyan and Yin stayed at the Yuelai Inn, which would be closed for renovations before reopening.

"No need, operate as usual!" Qingyan looked at the Deep Well Inn; it was newly renovated and didn't need any further improvements. "Also, keep a close eye on news from the fishing village. If the Ning family makes any unusual moves, report it to me immediately!"

"Yes!" the shopkeeper quickly replied.

Fortunately, there was no one watching the entrance of Yuelai Inn; otherwise, even if I left in the middle of the night, I would still be followed.

"Eru, go check the situation outside first. Remember, check it thoroughly!" Yin gave the order directly, making sure no one was watching them from behind.

After Erlu left, the shopkeeper looked around and whispered, "Master, there's no one watching over this place yet. Every day during the day, those people who are watching the Ning family gather here to keep an eye on things."

What?!

Qingyan looked at the shopkeeper in surprise: "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I've been keeping an eye on them for several days now. I know those people; they're villagers from the fishing village," the shopkeeper quickly said. "Moreover, these people don't get along with the scholar, so they're being extra careful when they're keeping watch."

Qingyan's face darkened slightly; the shopkeeper's advice was very important.

"Go find Erlu, go straight to the entrance, and see if anyone is guarding it," Qingyan instructed the shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper hurried off to check, hoping to provide his master with some information. Reaching the door, he looked around; besides the night watchman, there were one or two other pedestrians outside.

"Master, I took a look, and there aren't many people at the entrance." Qingyan nodded to Yin after hearing what the shopkeeper said.

"We're leaving immediately," Yin gave the order, and the two boarded the carriage. "Little darling, get in the carriage."

The carriages moved slowly through the night, and several carriages slowly departed. The innkeeper instructed the waiter to close the shop immediately. After seeing off his guests, the innkeeper finally relaxed completely.

Qingyan leaned against Yin, recalling the shopkeeper's reminder. The other party had already begun preparations, and had even bribed the locals. Those who had grudges against the parties involved had also joined in.

"Si Si, do you think those people know we've left?" Qing Yan felt uneasy, as if there was something she hadn't considered.

Yin patted her little head to reassure her, saying that everything had been arranged.

"No, those people don't know yet," Yin said confidently.

Having received Yin's promise, Qingyan felt at ease, fearing that she might cause trouble for everyone.
