On the twenty-third day of the twelfth lunar month, Yin changed into the casual clothes that Qingyan had personally sewn. She had completed the clothes herself over two years. The clothes were made of royal blue with a four-clawed python embroidered on the chest. The golden embroidery made the four-clawed python look particularly domineering. It stood on several milky white auspicious clouds. The hem of the clothes was decorated with three layers of auspicious clouds.
This casual outfit didn't have many colors, but the bright yellow prince's belt gave him an air of authority without being angry.
"Fourth Prince, do you like it?" She personally hung the jade pendant representing the prince's status on Yin. If they didn't have to wear court robes to worship their ancestors tomorrow, this outfit would definitely be the center of attention.
Yin smiled. Last year, Qingyan only gave him a purse, which he didn't care about at all. These were all prepared by Qingyan herself. His gift, on the other hand, was given to Qingyan early on: a set of magpie-themed headdresses, which Yin personally designed and arranged for the imperial workshops to make.
"In the future, when you have children, you must think of me first!" Yin was very possessive and could not accept that her possessiveness was directed at someone else.
Pfft!
Qingyan became cheerful; the previous busy official business at the mansion had almost annoyed Yin.
"Understood!" Qingyan nodded. Today, they were going to the palace to have lunch with Consort Tong and others, which was a family reunion meal. Emperor Kangxi had not yet stopped writing, and he would still be busy with state affairs after lunch.
After changing their clothes, the two boarded the carriage to the palace. Once the carriage left the mansion, Qingyan couldn't help but feel that the road was much quieter.
Previously, she could see vendors after leaving the mansion, but now, there isn't even a single stall left.
"The New Year celebrations have started this year, and everyone has gone home!" Following Xiao Guai's gaze, Yin saw that all the Naxi people had been driven away by Yin.
The official in charge of official duties received a message that someone intended to cause trouble for the various prefectures during the Spring Festival. Several princes cleared out any irrelevant personnel to prevent such a thing from happening.
As the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month approached, the festive atmosphere in the streets of the city grew stronger, and they could still hear the sporadic sounds of firecrackers on their way here.
"It really is New Year's!" Qingyan clapped his hands and said.
Yin specially ordered his servants to buy a lot of fireworks, so that in addition to watching fireworks in the palace on New Year's Eve, his residence would also set them off.
"Little darling, the fireworks display on the second day of the lunar new year must not be earlier than the one inside the palace!" Yin gave a few more instructions, still worried.
Last year, Fei Yanggu set off fireworks ahead of time to fulfill Xiao Guai's wish. The censors saw it and submitted memorials, saying that Fei Yanggu had broken a taboo by setting off fireworks earlier than the royal family.
"Huh?!" Qingyan was stunned.
"Your Majesty, we've arrived at the palace!" Su Peisheng interrupted Yin.
At this time, Emperor Kangxi was already waiting for the two of them to arrive at Chenggan Palace. During the annual festivals, he rarely had the opportunity to enjoy the warmth of home.
On New Year's Eve, he would spend it with the imperial family, court officials, and others. The banquet in the Hall of Supreme Harmony was held every year, but it was for the benefit of the officials and the common people. He could not get any warmth from it.
"Fourth Prince has arrived. You are not allowed to cause any more trouble." Consort Tong changed into the casual clothes that Qingyan had specially prepared. The golden brocade was specially made by Qingyan when he went south. Even the pearls inlaid on the brocade were all deep-sea pearls that Xiao Guai had collected.
Kangxi took a sip of tea, thinking that it was more likely that the fourth prince was always causing him trouble.
"You're a father, you should have some manners!" Consort Tong glanced at him, telling him to tone it down starting this year, after all, Xiao Guai was now their daughter-in-law.
Seeing Consort Tong protecting Yin again, Kangxi felt uneasy. He was looking forward to the birth of Yin's son. The fourth prince probably understood how he felt.
"Lanya, I'm waiting to see what the fourth prince will do in the future!" Kangxi smiled, and Consort Tong wanted to cover her face.
Both father and son were almost like children!
"Greetings to Father Emperor and Mother Emperor!" Yin, dressed in the casual clothes prepared by Qingyan, personally greeted the two.
Emperor Kangxi noticed that Yin's everyday clothes were different from those of the princes, and the design was clearly not made by the imperial workshops.
"Fourth Prince, these clothes..." Kangxi noticed that Yin was very happy. She immediately stopped looking at the study and concluded that the clothes must have been prepared by Qingyan. This brat was obviously here to cause her trouble.
"Little Darling made this for me, Father Emperor. Little Darling embroidered this herself!" Yin looked at Kangxi proudly.
Suddenly, Consort Tong felt a headache coming on. Emperor Kangxi's dragon robe could not be made in private, and the way he looked at her made her want to look away.
Emperor Kangxi felt regretful but there was nothing he could do. After all, his dragon robes or everyday clothes took hundreds of embroiderers several years to make, and the process might even require remaking due to issues with the color matching of the threads.
"Father, I remember Mother made clothes for me, but she hasn't made any for you yet, has she?" Yin looked at Kangxi smugly. Since their marriage, such father-son conversations had become increasingly rare. In the past few days, Kangxi had been tormenting Yin quite a bit, making Yin feel that it was time to teach Kangxi a lesson.
Ugh!
Kangxi was speechless at Yin's words. Qingyan was found by Consort Tong. The mother and daughter-in-law talked while watching the father and son bickering. It has to be said that they looked more like an ordinary father and son than like royalty.
"Fourth Prince, you've chosen to be complacent. Once you have a son, see if Xiao Guai will be just as spoiled." Kangxi was jealous. Sons are born to collect debts, but if it were a daughter who looked like Lan Ya, she would probably be even more pampered.
Yin was speechless. His imperial father wouldn't resort to shamelessness when he couldn't win an argument with him.
"No!" Yin said firmly.
Consort Tong and Qingyan exchanged a glance, sharing a helpless look. The father and son were exactly alike in temperament.
