Chapter 582 On the Road

As dawn broke, many families appeared on the palace road. Emperor Kangxi kept a close eye on the pedestrians outside the carriage window, and his expression naturally grew increasingly grim.

"Sisi, look!" Qingyan was sitting by the carriage window embroidering a silk handkerchief when she saw the pedestrians pushing flatbed carts.

Yin frowned: "It seems the disaster situation in the suburbs is quite serious!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the carriage fell silent. She put down the silk handkerchief in her hand, leaned on Yin's shoulder, and held his right hand with her left hand to keep him from getting too excited.

"Master, the memorial has arrived!" Erlu appeared on either side of the carriage. Su Peisheng lifted the curtain and placed the memorial directly on the table.

Yin opened the memorial and found that it recorded the situation in the suburbs. The more he read, the more gloomy his face became. His prediction was correct. The dike for watching the tides in the royal palace had been built very solidly. However, the dikes in the peripheral areas had not been repaired well.

This year's flood is much larger than before, and the situation is quite serious. Moreover, almost all the bricks and stones used for construction have been diverted to the land where the royal family appeared.

"Sisi, look over there!" Qingyan's eyes widened in disbelief. They had only been in the carriage for a little over an hour, and the tide had already spread to the dike. In fact, the people were working hard to plug the leaks.

"This is normal. Some places have experienced flooding, and when the floodwaters were just beginning to rise, the dikes were reinforced to prevent the floodwaters from spreading further," Yin explained to Qingyan.

"Are we going to go further away?" Qingyan noticed that the carriage hadn't stopped but was instead moving further away.

Yin looked worriedly outside the carriage. The guards around the carriage had been increased to three rows on each side, clearly indicating that more guards had been assigned.

"Little darling, we're about to have a tough battle!" Yin said with emotion as he looked outside.

If someone ahead is in a serious situation, it could really turn into a disaster.

"Fourth Prince, could it be..." Qingyan shook her head, "that Father Emperor will go to the disaster area?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Qingyan shuddered. His Majesty had personally entered the disaster area. Even if he brought a large number of people, if there was the slightest danger, the princes accompanying him would all become criminals.

"I hope the people below don't harbor any rebellious intentions," Qingyan said weakly.

Kangxi's carriage was placed second, but after Yinzhi petitioned Kangxi, his carriage moved to the front.

"Xuan Ye, Yin has really grown up!" Consort Tong said to Emperor Kangxi with emotion as she looked at the painted dragon and phoenix twins beside her.

Kangxi flipped through the memorials sent by Tulichen. None of the princes he had brought with him this time were involved in the matter, but the remaining princes were all implicated to some extent.

Even Consort Mi's family was implicated.

"Yes!" Kangxi nodded in satisfaction. Yin said that his father and brothers were not as strong as him, so it was only right for him to protect everyone at the front.

"I even suggested that Consort Hui come along, but to my surprise, she not only shook her head, but also said that if she kept an eye on things from over there, she could keep those people from paying attention to this side!" Consort Tong had to admit that Consort Hui was taking a risk.

"Don't worry, I've left people behind. If Consort Hui is in danger, she'll be sent here directly." Of course, Kangxi wouldn't let Consort Hui risk her life there; he made sure everyone else was taken care of.

The twins glanced in the direction of Emperor Kangxi, wondering where their grandfather was taking them.

"Alright, you two come here." Kangxi noticed the twins glancing in their direction repeatedly, so he beckoned to them.

The two of them happily put down their calligraphy brushes and ran over.

"Mafa, where are we going?" Having spent so much time by Kangxi's side, the twins were no longer afraid of his intimidating presence. They were always overjoyed whenever they could go out.

"We're going to the disaster-stricken areas," Kangxi said directly.

Yiken'e was slightly taken aback: "The place where we watch the 'tide' has been specially reinforced. As a result, there aren't enough materials in other places. So, are we going to the places where the dikes have breached?"

Kangxi looked at Yiken'e in surprise. This child was really smart. No wonder he was a prince among twins. It seemed that Heaven had already made arrangements.

"Mafa, really?" Hutuli Fengsheng Zhalafen asked, tilting his little head.

"Hmm, Yiken, how did you know?" Kangxi worried that it might have been Yinzhen who taught him.

“My mother and father took us with them when they went to provide disaster relief last time!” Yiken’e has vivid memories of that disaster relief trip. Although she doesn’t remember many details, she still remembers some of the things they said.

He saw the farmers for the first time. They were all older than their actual age, toiling in the fields. The problems they complained about most were these very issues.

"What do you remember?" Kangxi asked directly.

Consort Tong was about to stop him, but Emperor Kangxi shook his head and stopped her.

“I don’t remember many things, but I do remember what the people said the most was that the government used the vast majority of the materials for building the great dike on the dikes in front of their own farmland and the dikes in front of farmland that were connected to the government.” Yiken’e’s words were somewhat contradictory, and Kangxi only understood the general meaning.

"Lanya, Yiken'e is really good!" Kangxi said, patting Yiken'e's head with satisfaction.

"Your Majesty, Yiken'e is still young and can only say so much!" Consort Tong said helplessly.

Yiken raised her little head and looked at Consort Tong with a proud expression.

"Tell me about this time?" Kangxi looked at Yiken'e and teased the little guy.

“Mafa, I think it’s probably because we didn’t have enough materials. We decided to come and watch the tide at the last minute, and the officials probably didn’t know!” Yiken frowned slightly, trying to figure it out. “The officials were probably afraid that the royal family would come back to watch the tide, so they made preparations in advance.”

“No, Grandfather issued an edict at the beginning of the year, saying that he would come to Suzhou and Hangzhou to watch the tide!” Kangxi shook his head, saying that Yiken’e’s idea was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

What?!

Consort Tong was also stunned; she hadn't heard the imperial decree from the court that she was to go watch the tidal bore.

"When Cao Yin and Li Xu went to the capital to report on their duties, I only gave them a hint!" Kangxi couldn't help but sigh, these two really ruined a great deal of things.

"Your Majesty, Li Xu deserves what he got. Even if you talk to him, there's nothing you can do. Who told that guy to be so greedy!" Consort Tong was extremely annoyed with Li Xu. In addition to sending Consort Mi, he was also thinking of sending some "thin horses" similar to Consort Tong, which made Consort Tong very angry.
