Chapter 670 Encountering Danger in the Dense Forest

The arrival of the Imperial Guards put the new army on edge. The speculations of Tu Lichen and others made everyone nervous, fearing that someone within the Imperial Guards might cause trouble.

"Eshuo, stay by the carriage, I'm going to see Prince Zhi!" Saito said in a low voice.

He wouldn't let any of the Imperial Guards near the carriage; his sister would protect herself without needing anyone else's help.

The Imperial Guards discovered that they could not get close to the carriages their masters were riding in. Their status was being flattered by everyone, who believed that no matter where they went, they would be given important positions.

Yin and Yin's actions displeased the Imperial Guards, who felt that they were being disregarded.

"Commander, the two princes don't need our protection at all, so why did you make this trip?" They were in a bad mood, as their two masters had clearly excluded them and considered them untrustworthy.

Even at a young age, the problem was discovered. When Seto spoke to him about the route home, he remained tight-lipped and did not elaborate.

“The masters will have their own plans!” The young man understood the two princes’ actions. They didn’t have His Majesty’s decree. They came directly saying that His Majesty had sent them to pick up the two princes. Putting himself in their shoes, he would also be more cautious.

During the autumn harvest, a major reshuffle took place in Mongolia, with several princes being sent out, clearly targeting Mongolian and Chinese women.

The Imperial Guards conducted two purges, sending many of those who had been bribed to the secret camps; it was clearly a cleanup of their own ranks.

"Keep a close eye on the people we've brought out; there can be absolutely no mistakes!" The young man finally understood why Kangxi had entrusted him with leading the team personally. He didn't know how many of those people were loyal to Kangxi.

Emperor Kangxi used the return journey of his two sons as bait to lure out his spies.

Countless eyes were watching them. The young children clearly understood that this was an opportunity, but also a test.

If he can pass Kangxi's test, he can take another step forward and gain Kangxi's appreciation and trust.

Qingyan looked at Nian Youling, who was only in his thirties at the time, and wondered if Nian Shi had already been born.

"Little darling, what are you thinking about?" She stared blankly outside. "Those people won't be a burden to you."

She smiled helplessly and said, "I just think the journey has been quite exciting!"

A relaxing autumn evening has turned into a tense and drastic change of personnel.

No wonder the Mongol leaders didn't want Kangxi and his entourage to come. Besides having to greet them respectfully, they also had to be extra careful, lest they cross Kangxi's bottom line.

"Fourth Brother, let's not come here again, okay?" Qingyan pouted, finding the grassland incredibly boring.

As soon as she finished speaking, the sounds of fighting broke out outside. She couldn't help but look up. How many times had this happened since the Imperial Guards arrived?

The second time, or the third time?

In just a few hours, there were two assassination attempts. It's either that someone was specifically watching them, or they were plotted against.

"Okay!" he nodded.

The two assassination attempts outside were carried out by two different groups of people.

"Another message has been sent out?" Qingyan nestled in her arms, tilting her head slightly, hoping Yin would give her a definite answer.

"Probably not!" Yin said, his voice lacking confidence.

It is still unknown whether the Imperial Guard sent out the message. Tulichen tried to get people to pay attention to suspicious individuals, but none of them showed any unusual behavior.

She approached the window, leaned against the windowsill, and stared at the troublemakers outside with her large, watery eyes.

beard?!

She sneered. "Hu Zihai is really something. There's always some kind of robbery going on."

Along their journey, they encountered many robbers. Originally, there were three or four cartloads of goods following behind, but now only their foreheads and faces remain.

The jewelry and silver in those vehicles were all stolen. The robbers not only took the items, but also said they were in a good mood and that's why they didn't take everything.

"Fourth Brother, is things still not quiet outside?" Qingyan squinted. After all this commotion, all they got was a cartload of headwear. The first few tribes had already taken the valuables, so the last tribe must have been too slow to get the news.

"Master, give them everything!" Tu Lichen said directly.

He believed it was his own mistake that he couldn't even save the last truckload of goods.

"Forget it, as long as we can get back safely!" Yin didn't care about these things. They were just material possessions, originally intended only as a formality.

These losses would be reported, and Kangxi would directly subsidize Yinzhi from his private treasury.

Their trip was clearly a preliminary operation to gather useful information. The tribal leaders have all been replaced, and the real decision-makers in each tribe will likely still be the direct descendants.

To prevent this situation, Emperor Kangxi planned to purge all his direct descendants. When he traveled among the various tribes, he would often pay attention to the activities within the tribes.

The news kept reaching the grassland tribes, but they were all too calm, as if they had expected it.

Yin could not be sure whether these people had already seized power over the direct line or were simply putting on a show of peace and waiting for Kangxi to leave so that they could continue as before.

"Release them?" Qingyan was stunned; this was too fast.

As evening approached, they had to rest in front of the dense forest. Both Yin and Yin suspected something was amiss, so they ordered all the Imperial Guards to stand guard on the outermost edge, while their own personal guards hid in the forest. Some of them went with the Imperial Guards to keep watch on those people from the shadows.

The soldiers of the new army split into two groups: one group hid, while the other group disguised themselves as guards of the two princes and waited outside the carriage.

Today, the temperature in Songkraljorha dropped a bit, and her little face was flushed red, but she was finally a bit more awake.

Yin and Yin Genjueluo were slightly relieved, as their daughter's condition had clearly improved.
