Chapter Fifty-Six: A Nightmare in the Middle of the Night

As night fell, Yin patted Qingyan, urging her to fall asleep as soon as possible. Beside his pillow was a firearm, which Dai Zi had presented to Kangxi before Lin set off on his campaign.

To ensure that Yin could use it to protect himself and Qingyan, Kangxi specially arranged for the firearms battalion to train Yin. Every morning at 7:15 AM, Yin would get up and practice firearms with instructors from the palace, while Qingyan was still fast asleep.

In the dead of night, a figure with light footsteps quietly approached Yin's tent. Qingyan was awakened by the alarm sounding in the space. In her small hand, she held a small lipstick-shaped pistol, which was better than Yin's gun. Most importantly, the bullets in this gun were tranquilizer darts, which could kill an elephant in three seconds.

She peered cautiously out from Yin's body. As the man passed the tent window, she fired, aided by the surrounding space. The silencer on the wall prevented the gun from making a loud noise.

"Fourth Brother, there's someone outside. I knocked him out with a tranquilizer gun," Qingyan whispered in Yin's ear.

Upon hearing the second half of the sentence, Yin Yi didn't say a word. Instead, he called to the guards outside the tent. At this moment, when people are most tired, such a mistake could occur. The guard captain began to panic. If something happened to the two young pillars, His Majesty would skin him alive.

The chaos in the tents disturbed the couple resting inside the imperial tent. When Li Dequan heard that unidentified people had appeared in the Fourth Prince's tent, he trembled and quickly relayed the news.

Emperor Kangxi and Consort Tong changed their clothes as quickly as possible and came over. When they entered, Yin had just changed Qingyan into her everyday clothes. Her hair was loose over her shoulders, and her slightly dazed face made Yin sigh.

The little girl was carried to the outer room by Yin. Lan Ya only felt relieved after seeing the two little ones come out.

"Su Peisheng, splash this man with cold water to wake him up." Yin looked at the man bound like a dumpling on the ground. If Qingyan hadn't used the tranquilizer gun, they probably wouldn't have been able to keep this man alive.

As Kangxi watched Yin's antics, a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes. Yin seemed to have fallen asleep and simply collapsed to the ground, refusing to get up. The guards outside only appeared after hearing Yin's shouts.

"Except for Li Dequan and Su Peisheng, all of you may leave!" Kangxi noticed that Yinzhi had given him a wink, probably indicating that he had something important to say.

After all the servants inside the tent were pushed out, Yin took out Qingyan's tranquilizer pistol, a small one that he simply put in his purse.

"This is..." Kangxi looked at the thing in Yin's hand with surprise. It looked like a Western ointment that was brought to the palace for the harem. How did it end up in Yin's hands?

Yin smiled slightly and calmly looked at Kangxi. Following Fei Yanggu's explanation, he directly told Kangxi that the shop in Guangzhou owned by the Ulanara family had been purchased from foreigners.

As the words fell, Kangxi's face grew increasingly gloomy. Johann Adam Schall von Bell had disappointed him. Those Western missionaries had never intended for the Qing Dynasty to become strong; all he had heard from them were lies.

"Yin, after returning to the capital, send this firearm you have to the manufacturing plant." Fortunately, Dai Zi was protected by Fei Yanggu and was not seriously harmed by his momentary lapse in judgment.

Outside the Great Wall, Western missionaries had long ago bribed local officials, preparing to have Dai Zi killed there. Even if Kangxi realized what was going on, he certainly wouldn't be able to find an excuse to kill them.

After Johann Adam Schall von Bell had planned it all out, he said those words to Emperor Kangxi.

Previously, Fei Yanggu had asked Kangxi to thoroughly investigate matters concerning the West, but he respected Johann Adam Schall von Bell and did not do so. Now, he couldn't have been more regretful; he had been deceived by someone he had always trusted.

"Father, I understand." Yin looked at Qingyan's red and swollen eyes and couldn't help but smile.

In the middle of the night, Qingyan used a tranquilizer gun to knock the people unconscious. They could still get information out of them that these people, as prisoners, could be exchanged for hostages captured by the enemy.

The Dragon Guards did not disappoint them. In just a short time, they had investigated the man's identity and found out that he was a Mongolian bribed by foreigners.

"Bribe them with a large sum of money!" Kangxi slammed the memorial on the table. These people would do anything!

The Dragon Guards all hung their heads, none of them daring to utter a single word. His Majesty was already furious, and if they said anything more, he would definitely turn on them.

Yin picked up Qingyan and held her soft little body in his arms. His scent made her feel at ease.

Kangxi glanced at the two children's behavior and was secretly pleased. Qingyan and Yin's relationship was getting better and better, and Fei Yanggu should not nag about letting Qingyan leave.

The Dragon Guards recounted everything they had learned from the man. Qingyan's tranquilizer gun had terrified him; the Mongols had always believed in the Eternal Heaven. This bizarre coma made him think that the Eternal Heaven was punishing him.

"Summon the Prince of the Northern Desert!" Kangxi was furious. This guy, Sol, had brought along a man who came from Galdan's family and had been bribed by foreigners.

Her large eyes stared at Kangxi's furious expression; the wrath of an emperor was not something an ordinary person could withstand. Outside the tent, Li Dequan wished he could disappear into the ground.

Yin held her small hand, one hand ready to cover her mouth at any moment; this girl's words were absolutely suffocating.

"You misjudge people and even allow your own son to cause trouble in the imperial tent!" Qingyan's clear, childlike voice sent chills down everyone's spines; her words were clearly meant to cause trouble for the prince.

Looking at the little girl's innocent eyes, Kangxi couldn't help but be amused by her words. Her little tantrums were extremely cute.

"Qingyan, come to me." Yin held Qingyan tightly, knowing that if Kangxi got angry, Qingyan would definitely be affected. "Xiao Si, let Qingyan come over."

Yin wanted to pretend to be deaf and dumb, but Kangxi would not miss the opportunity to tease his son.

Qingyan slowly walked to Kangxi's side, where she was picked up and looked down at Sol, who was rushing to the tent.

"This servant greets Your Majesty!" Upon hearing Li Dequan's words, Kangxi was preparing to summon him.

At that time, he realized that someone close to him had gotten into trouble again. Before his son's troubles had subsided, someone was already sabotaging him behind his back.

"Sor, is that Du Kun your guard?" Kangxi did not let Soor get up, but made him kneel to be interrogated.

Solde looked up and saw Qingyan sitting obediently in Kangxi's lap, her big eyes blazing with resentment.

At this moment, she loathed these court affairs. She just wanted to be a gentle girl and stay by Yin's side. Why did she have to be involved in these things?

"Yes, I watched him grow up since he was a child. He was an orphan I found on the edge of the northern desert," Thor quickly explained.
