Chapter Nineteen: Yinzhen's Growth

After a cup of tea, Qingyan looked at the homemade simple oven with a smile. The fish was covered with banana leaves, then covered with a silver lid, and then an oak bark tray was placed on top. There was also an oak bark tray underneath, which was placed on the campfire. Some burning firewood was placed on the oak bark on top, and a simple oak bark oven was hidden inside the campfire.

Emperor Kangxi and Consort Tongjia watched Qingyan's actions with curiosity, wondering how the little girl could possibly understand such things.

"Girl, how did you come up with this method of grilling fish?" Kangxi saw a way of grilling fish that was completely different from what they knew. To be honest, this method was really not very good.

Qingyan brushed her hair back; could she say she saw it on TV? Yin was already used to Qingyan's often baffling actions, and his tolerance for it was getting stronger and stronger.

“It’s recorded in the travelogue. Now that we’ve finally found it, we must try it out!” Qingyan said boldly to Kangxi, her round eyes wide.

Consort Tongjia carefully observed Qingyan's every move. The little girl was very down-to-earth, and sometimes, her little expressions made people want to pinch her cheeks.

At this moment, Fei Yanggu rode over at high speed from afar, with a lot of prey behind him. Qingyan saw a huge wild boar appear in her sight, and her mood couldn't help but improve.

Fei Yanggu dismounted and bowed to Emperor Kangxi and Consort Tongjia. Looking down at the small fire next to Qingyan, he knew that Qingyan had caused trouble again.

"Qingyan, are you sure this one will be cooked through?" To test the power of the simple oven, Fei Yanggu and Yin ate several meals of undercooked grilled fish.

"Hmph, if it's not cooked, it won't make you sick!" Yin said arrogantly, imitating Qingyan.

Suddenly, everyone present fell silent. Qingyan's adorable little face, accompanied by her proud little expression, was incredibly endearing. Meanwhile, it was rather bizarre that someone with such an icy demeanor would reveal such a childlike expression.

"Fourth Prince...you're not suitable!" Qingyan looked at Yin with tears in her eyes. Oh my god, the iceberg has collapsed!

Immediately, Yin's face darkened, and Consort Tongjia watched as her son's smile vanished, replaced by an icy expression.

"Yin, you should get along well with Qingyan. Look at that young girl, she's a normal child!" What prince is normal? They've all matured early because of the competitive environment.

Emperor Kangxi tugged at Consort Tongjia's sleeve. "The prince is too naive. How can he survive?"

Qingyan stared intently at the wild boar that had been cleared out behind him. Just as the guards were about to throw away the entrails, Qingyan stopped them.

Yin frowned. Qingyan was a girl who didn't discriminate between meat and vegetables. She dared to eat anything. He followed Qingyan, who was running all the way.

"Leave me the pig liver and intestines, and I want the pig heart too..." Qingyan looked at Yin pitifully at the last sentence. This guy always complained that things were dirty, and rarely let her have a chance to eat anything!

"Alright, just this once, and don't do it again!" Qingyan nodded her little head obsequiously. As long as Yin let her do it once, she could make everyone like it.

"Fourth Prince, why does Qingyan eat this!" Kangxi had heard of folk snacks, but he never expected that this little girl, Qingyan, would actually like them.

Fei Yanggu felt ashamed; he should have known better than to take Qingyan to the snack street near Huguo Temple.

"Sulan, Sulan~ Come here quickly, we're having stir-fried pig intestines today!" Qingyan's cheerful childish voice echoed throughout the world.

The guards looked back with some difficulty, but the Fourth Prince in front of them did not give a clear no-no and directly agreed to every decision made by Princess Qingyan.

"Yin actually agreed without any principles?" Consort Tongjia exclaimed in a low voice. Is this still the Fourth Prince according to the rules of their family?

With a smile on his face, Yin looked like a child, not a puppet locked in the palace.

The joy emanating from Qingyan is something lacking in the imperial offspring. It would be wonderful if Yin could have such an optimistic young consort by his side.

Su Lan rushed over from afar, paid her respects to the masters, and then looked in the direction Qing Yan was pointing. Those were the things that the Fourth Prince had explicitly forbidden the princess from eating.

"Fourth Prince agrees!" Qingyan nudged Yin's arm. "Tell me quickly!"

"Go and handle it." Yin was exasperated by the questioning. He patted Qingyan's little head and said directly to Sulan. Originally, Yin would never have agreed, but her smiling eyes made it impossible for him to refuse.

After receiving the order, Su Lan led her people to the stream. The guards cleaned up the game and piled it on the right.

"I want to eat beggar's chicken!" Qingyan remembered that back in the mansion, Yin often grilled it for her as a treat.

Yin squatted down and silently selected three large pheasants from the pheasants.

"Come with me!" Yin looked up at Qingyan, determined not to let the little chubby girl have it easy. "Father, Mother, I'll cook something for you too."

Emperor Kangxi and Consort Tongjia stared blankly at Yin's departing figure. In the palace, there was no need for the princes to lift a finger; the servants had already placed all the food in front of their masters.

"Fourth Prince, is this edible?" Emperor Kangxi was truly impressed by Yin's cooking skills...

"It should be pretty good, only Qingyan will be lucky enough to have it!" Fei Yanggu's words made Kangxi's face darken. So, Yinhui was training himself to please his wife.

Qingyan wielded a small bamboo shovel, digging silt from the stream for Yin. He was most attractive to her when he was focused on doing something.

"Stop messing around, or you won't want to eat later?" Yin's right cheek was smeared with mud. Yin glared at him angrily and then let Qingyan go. "Wipe it clean for me, or you won't get your beggar's chicken!"

Yin's reaction surprised Kangxi. His astonished look made Lanya smile; she herself hadn't expected Yin to go to such lengths.

"He has truly changed a lot." Kangxi sighed with deep emotion. Before, he would pout and refuse to do even the smallest thing.

Qingyan, holding a small handkerchief, fawned over Yin and wiped his cheeks. Yin could only shake his head helplessly; this little guy was still a bully who preyed on the weak.

"When will it be better?" Qingyan hadn't eaten much for breakfast, and now she was starving!

Having no other choice, Yin took a few chicken hearts from the famille rose covered bowl, skewered them on an ivory hairpin, and started grilling them. Since leaving the palace, Yin had been trained by Qingyan to taste all kinds of food.

The Fei Yanggu family were all military officers, and they were very casual about their food, so Yin had no choice but to follow their customs.

"After going to the battlefield, he was able to support himself!" Kangxi was very satisfied with Yin's growth.

Qingyan's eyes lit up as she looked at the sizzling, oily chicken hearts.

In modern times, barbecues are very common, but here, they are definitely not allowed in high society. Qingyan was already overjoyed to see the change in Mou Si.

"You can only eat two at a time!" Qingyan is small and has a small appetite; if she eats too much, she won't be able to enjoy much of the food. (Continue reading)
