Chapter Seventy-Eight: Kangxi's Wrath

As evening approached, Qingyan and Yincai returned to their camp. Kangxi and Consort Tong came out of the tent. Looking at Yincai and Qingyan, he felt a pang of sadness. When had these two children ever suffered so much?

"Father, I'm back." Yin felt at ease looking into Kangxi's eyes.

As an emperor, Kangxi absolutely could not show his emotions. Just now, Kangxi was truly heartbroken.

"Little Four, come back with me." Kangxi sent Anwu out. Even though he was disguised, it was best for outsiders to see him as little as possible.

Emperor Kangxi didn't have many hidden agents; these few, after being honed, were intended to be used decades later.

"Little Four, who saw Dark Five?" Kangxi asked with relief after seeing Consort Tong pulling Qingyan back together.

“Everyone except Xiao Guai saw it. Xiao Guai was too sleepy and kept sleeping.” Everyone knew that Qing Yan had a habit of taking a nap, and Kangxi couldn’t possibly ask Qing Yan to change his habit.

After the incident, Yin thought of using this as an excuse to give a reasonable explanation for Qingyan's every move.

The guards all noticed that Qingyan hadn't gotten up, and that when Yin spoke to Qingyan, they were whispering to each other, so that outsiders couldn't hear them at all.

"Besides Qingyan?" Kangxi was surprised. Qingyan was at the age where curiosity was at its peak. The guards around Yin were personally selected by Kangxi and Lanya, and their basic qualities were extremely high.

"Yes, Qingyan took a nap. She's been in her cell all day, but she hasn't been sleeping soundly and has been in a daze." Yin breathed a sigh of relief. Only after Kangxi finished his investigation could Qingyan's crisis be resolved.

Kangxi nodded. It was best that Qingyan hadn't met Anwu. He planned to make Anwu Qingyan's business partner with Yinzhi. With his cooperation, they felt much more at ease.

Consort Tong coaxed Qingyan to sleep, then came out from the back tent. The little guy had been frightened; his little hands were ice-cold. It pained her to see him like that. Qingyan's haggard appearance only intensified her guilt.

Previously, when Emperor Kangxi mentioned this matter, she had strongly objected, saying that the little one was too young and that if it left a shadow in his heart, it would be a lifelong disaster.

Yin always stayed by her side, and he would definitely accompany Qingyan if she fell into danger.

The father and son discussed this matter behind her back, and by the time she learned the truth, it was too late.

"You two are relieved, but Qingyan isn't in a good mood." Lanya was annoyed; how could a girl go to a place like that?

At the very least, this news absolutely cannot be leaked. The Jueluo clan has always wanted Qingyan to be entertained at the Ulanara residence. If outsiders find out, the first round of Qingyan's talent selection will be manipulated.

"Lanya, this is not a last resort. Xiao Si is also clever. He directly let Qingyan take the name of the Sixth Princess." Kangxi did not care about his frail daughter. The people from the Imperial Hospital had come and clearly mentioned to Kangxi that the Sixth Princess would probably be born in the next few months.

Of Kangxi's children, apart from the Crown Prince and Yinzhi, the rest were used as bargaining chips by Kangxi.

"Fourth Prince, you actually used the Sixth Princess's name." Consort Tong was soft-hearted and hoped that all of Kangxi's children could live healthy lives.

The sixth princess was frail and sickly, and should have been given good deeds to bring her blessings, but the father and son were instead squeezing her out of existence.

With such a reputation, even if the Sixth Princess survives this ordeal, what good future awaits her when the marriage is arranged?

Consort Tong's disapproving look made Yin lower his head; he realized he had gone too far.

"Lanya, Qingyan is quite capable. It's only right that Yin chose this method to protect her." The Sixth Princess's health was not good, and Kangxi would also choose this method to deal with it.

The royal family must not have any bad rumors circulating about them, as every move Yin makes represents the royal family.

In a similar situation, where the choice between a Fujin (a high-ranking official's wife) and a royal princess arises, and the royal princess is in poor health, he would make the same choice.

Unless, of course, the child is Lanya's daughter; other people's children are not within his consideration.

"Our daughter will never encounter this. Xiao Si and I will cherish her dearly." Lan Ya has been taking care of her health for many years. Once, when the Empress Dowager served tea to Lan Ya, she put medicine in the tea, which is why she has been unable to conceive for so many years.

Yin was taught by Lan Ya from a young age, and he was no different from Lan Ya's biological children.

"I can't argue with you. Xiao Si, please pay close attention to Xiao Guai's emotions these next few days." Qing Yan is very likely to have nightmares. Just now, she summoned the imperial physician to take Qing Yan's pulse. Qing Yan's emotions are unstable, and she may start to have a fever tonight.

Emperor Kangxi had sent all the servants away early, leaving only the three of them in the imperial tent, which allowed Consort Tong to speak freely.

In front of outsiders, Consort Tong always held the belief that a woman's virtue lies in her lack of talent.

"Mother, I understand. This time is an exception. I will never take Qingyan on an adventure again." Yin's assurance pleased Consort Tong greatly. At least, this little guy wouldn't act rashly.

Fei Yanggu has a bad temper. If Qingyan has an accident because of these things, Yin will definitely be tormented by that father and his two sons. She doesn't want her son to be harassed.

"Little Fourth, your mother doesn't want anything bad to happen between you and Qingyan again. This time it was really too close." Fortunately, Kangxi didn't lose his mind and went to the government office to bring Yin back himself.

Then, the worst outcome will unfold before them.

Soetu gradually infiltrated officials in other provinces, and they gradually moved closer to Soetu's side for the sake of his family's development.

On the surface, Kangxi treated Yin very well, which made those people feel more at ease standing in the position of crown prince.

After the founding of the Qing Dynasty, the lifespans of several emperors were not very long. According to the previous system, as long as Yin lived for another ten years or so, his position would be secure.

Kangxi did not want to relinquish power so soon, and it would be difficult to realize Suo'etu's wish unless he was really prepared to take action against Kangxi.

This personal military campaign changed Kangxi's mindset; he became increasingly aware that the Crown Prince had grown up and his ambition for the throne had also grown stronger. Songgotu had long been corrupted by the allure of power.

Even Cao Yin from Jiangnan was starting to side with Yin. Kangxi was deeply hurt by reality. His most trusted minister, who had always been loyal to the crown prince, had betrayed him for the sake of the future. All of this fueled Kangxi's ambition to depose the crown prince.

"Xuan Ye, I'll say it again: think twice before you act. The Empress Dowager is still there to protect you; she will absolutely not let you touch Yin." Consort Tong believed that Yin had grown up, and some of the women in the harem were no longer being dealt with behind his back, making him realize that the women in the harem were not as idyllic as they appeared from the outside.
