Chapter Seventy-Five: A Day Trip to the County Government Jail

As the storytelling became more and more engaging, the teahouse filled up. Yin secretly observed the newcomers downstairs; they all looked suspicious and were clearly not good people. He sensed impending danger, and Qingyan should be feeling the threat.

Her bright, watery eyes revealed a curious expression. She wanted to rid the people of evil, but their abilities were limited, and they might easily be outmaneuvered.

A wise man does not stand under a walled enclosure!

This was something Emperor Kangxi had repeatedly emphasized. Her momentary happiness would upset him, and Yinzhi didn't have that kind of confidence.

"Little darling, what did your fourth uncle tell you before he left?" Fei Yanggu had repeatedly warned her against taking risks, and she had long forgotten her own comfort when faced with certain matters.

Ugh!

After the banquet, Fei Yanggu wished he could protect her in a clean environment, free from conflict and scheming, where there was only peace.

"Okay, I won't go." The only one who could stop Qingyan from taking risks was Fei Yanggu; his words were always more effective than his own.

The number of pedestrians on both sides of the street gradually decreased, and Yin was a little puzzled. Only when a group of yamen runners surrounded the teahouse did he realize that something was wrong.

"Oh no!" Yin said in frustration, "Long Yi, take the order back and tell Father that our whereabouts may have been discovered by people in the capital. Be careful, we should be sent to the county government."

Yin's words made Qingyan's eyes light up. When things came to a head, they no longer had a choice.

"." Long Yi looked at the situation below and realized that someone had to go and deliver the message. Yin and Qingyan were too young, and if they were sent out, they would become targets to be tracked.

After watching Long Yi leave, Yin sat down next to Qing Yan.

"Are you scared?" Yin turned to look at Qingyan. They were very likely to be dragged to the county government office for a day trip.

Qingyan shook her head. From birth until now, she had always grown up under protection. Fei Yanggu and the others had never shown her the harsh reality.

"Were those people coming for us?" Qingyan didn't dare to think too much about it; those people were supposed to be protecting them.

The loyal subjects of Kangxi were not him, but the subjects he had once trusted. This was unbearable for him, and Yinzhi became increasingly angry.

"It should be. After we came in, there were a few people who came in with us." After confirming who the other party was denouncing, Yin began to plan his escape route.

Aside from the mysterious space of Qingyan, it's basically impossible in other places.

"Where will we be taken this time?" Qingyan was afraid that she would be separated from Yin, since men and women could not be imprisoned in the same cell.

Fortunately, Qingyan is still young; otherwise, he certainly wouldn't have done what he did. A girl's reputation must be well protected.

"Little darling, you'll be the Sixth Princess in a moment." Yin pondered that he couldn't let Qingyan get a bad reputation, as the first hurdle for the imperial concubine selection was very strict.

With her great reputation and Emperor Kangxi's protection, Qingyan was bound to become a thorn in the side of many ambitious ministers.

"No, the higher-ups will definitely not agree." Qingyan believed that the Sixth Princess was an imperial princess, while she was merely the daughter of a subject, and their statuses were not equal.

Yin still remembered that the Sixth Princess would die young this year. With this reputation on her shoulders, there would definitely be no problem.

"No need, little darling, just listen to me." Yin patted Qingyan's head, soothing her slightly agitated emotions.

He held Qingyan's small body tightly in his arms, afraid that they would be separated. She was unaware of the darkness outside.

"Hold me tight in a bit," Yin instructed. Qingyan grabbed his collar, her little hands clenching tightly.

As soon as Yin finished speaking, the sounds of fighting came from the first floor. The yamen runners outside were shouting that the storyteller was a traitor and that everyone who was listening to the story in the teahouse today should be arrested.

"Fourth, those people's reasons are very far-fetched." Even Qingyan could hear the far-fetched meaning in their words, and the people in the teahouse had already been discussing it.

The officials wanted to frame the storyteller to undermine his unspeakable purpose. Yin and his companions were also summoned by the yamen runners. The two of them looked like a rich young master and young lady out for fun.

Most people would panic in this situation, but the two of them remained remarkably calm. The constables ordered them to send a servant home to deliver the message.

At this moment, Yin understood that these people just wanted more money.

"This is my sister. Can we both be locked up in the same place?" The constables nodded, wanting to make more money.

The New Year is just around the corner, and their government office really doesn't have much money left. The yamen runners don't even get any extra benefits.

Half an hour later, Yin and Qingyan were imprisoned in a cell. The guards took good care of them because of their young age.

When the prefect learned that they had caught a big fish this time, they were completely relieved. All those rich young masters had already been thrown into jail.

They were really out of luck; they were mistaken for a rich young master, a bizarre reason that Yin had never heard of before in his two lifetimes.

The people in the prison cells were all haphazard, some simply resigning themselves to their fate. If they stayed for ten days and their families couldn't raise the money, they would be released; too many people in the cells would just be a waste of food.

"Fourth Brother, is it like this in other places too?" Qingyan was stunned. So the Qing Dynasty had such ways of accumulating wealth.

Yin shook his head. He didn't know the situation outside either; it certainly wouldn't have happened in the Qing Dynasty of his previous life.

"Little darling, don't say anything. Let's keep an eye on things." Yin thought the prefect's official evaluation was very good; such conduct could still earn such a high praise.

This contradictory relationship is really strange. He frowned as he listened to what the people around him were talking about. This was a way to pay tribute to the yamen runners of the county government. Many young masters of merchants would send money to bail them out if they had something to do before the New Year.

He looked at the guards in the county government office; they were mostly wearing old clothes, and some of them looked unwell.

The people in the Ministry of Revenue wouldn't embezzle even their salaries; he kept the suspicion to himself after discovering it. Qingyan looked at the dark prison cell, feeling a chill of fear. With Yin gone, she was sure she would be traumatized.

On the wall directly opposite their cells hung sets of interrogation instruments.

"Sisi, I'm scared." Qingyan's small body trembled as he spoke. His eyes looked at her and saw sets of bloodstained torture instruments, on which countless lives had been taken.

The guards that Yin brought with him looked at the two young masters with great concern. Among them were Kangxi's men who were carefully observing Yin's actions. Such opportunities were truly rare.

Faced with danger, the Fourth Prince remained calm and even carefully protected Princess Qingyan. His actions earned him the respect of the guards.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Yin hugged Qingyan tightly and whispered to comfort her.

Qingyan hid her face in his clothes, and the ambergris on his body made her feel relaxed.
