Chapter Seventy-Four: Father and Son Fighting

After a few days, news of the Crown Prince's serious illness spread, and many people discussed the matter behind his back. However, Kangxi never believed it. The people he sent only told Kangxi that the Crown Prince was faking his illness.

Yin had long discovered that Yin's feigned illness was nothing more than a ploy for Suo'etu's plan. His heart grew colder and colder. Qingyan sat at the small kang table, snacking on some treats. He hadn't had a good appetite for the past few days. After so many years of brotherhood, he still had a lot of feelings for Yin.

“Little darling, don’t use it too much, your teeth were sore last night…” After Yinwei finished speaking, Qingyan stuffed a piece of tamarind cake into his mouth.

He swallowed quickly, then picked up the teacup on the table and took two sips of tea. This feeling…

"Nonsense!" Yin said sternly in a low voice.

Qingyan hugged the cushion next to him and chuckled. Yin frowned and glared angrily. This guy could never be quiet.

"When you're in a bad mood, eating more snacks can help," Qingyan said softly.

She couldn't understand the tense atmosphere between Kangxi and Yinzhi; she felt that what had happened was simple and there was nothing to worry about.

"You..." Yin Dao chuckled, probably because she was young and didn't have any extra thoughts yet.

He held her mischievous little hand tightly, looking out of the tent; they were going to celebrate the festival outside. Before the Ninth Prince could react, Suo'etu dealt a ruthless blow to Kangxi, causing the relationship between father and son to grow increasingly strained.

"Hmph," Qingyan turned her head away, her little face tense. "You've taken on all the work, and things will be even harder to buy during holidays."

On a whim, Yin took on the task of purchasing supplies, his first time doing so in his life. Kangxi was somewhat worried, but he couldn't spare anyone to supervise the matter. Since Yin had brought it up, he thought he would give Yin a chance to gain experience.

“Little darling, isn’t this giving you a legitimate opportunity to try the food?” Yin explained.

The three members of the Fei Yanggu family, father and sons, were away from the camp during this time due to important missions assigned by Emperor Kangxi, which led to a neglect of Qingyan's security. The incident with Suo Keshuo served as a warning.

"No, being cooped up in the camp all day is no fun at all." Qingyan twirled the small handkerchief in her hand, feeling indignant; she had been put in solitary confinement.

Qingyan's childlike behavior made Yin burst into laughter.

Since the incident involving Kangxi and Yinzhi, the atmosphere in the entire camp has become tense. Originally, Galdan's great victory should have been a happy occasion, but now it has turned into an awkward situation.

Yin sighed, she couldn't understand the meaning of imperial power. He went outside the tent and instructed Su Peisheng to prepare the things needed for the trip.

He dressed Qingyan in a lake-blue winter outfit, removed the pearl flowers from her double buns, and inserted a red rope knot with the character "福" (fortune) on one side. The girls in the neighborhood wore them and they looked quite pretty, so he asked Sulan to prepare them.

"Let's go out to eat, okay?" Yin finally gave in after being pestered.

The two quietly left the camp, but Kangxi lashed out in his tent, revealing that three or four of the capable imperial physicians remaining at the Imperial Hospital had already been bribed by Suo'etu. Consort Tong, holding a teacup, gently comforted him, her heart chilled by Yin's actions.

Of these princes, Kangxi loved the Crown Prince the most, treating him like a child. The other princes all had an element of manipulation involved, and even Yinzhen, who received more favor than the others, was the most dangerous.

"Xuan Ye, the children are all grown up and have their own thoughts. Even if you want to die, don't joke around with your health," Consort Tong comforted him.

Emperor Kangxi sighed. It was more troublesome than he had imagined.

Inside the county town, Qingyan pulled Yin through the crowds, feeling much better. She felt alive again.

"Little darling, it's not the full market day today, so there aren't many people buying anything." During the off-season for farming, people in rural households find some easy jobs to do.

She had already gone to rest. Inside and outside the camp, people were busy storing up things for the winter, and some villagers even brought a lot of food to sell.

"We can send these people up the mountain to gather firewood, so our soldiers won't have to be scattered." Qingyan remembered that the firewood in the camp was all cut down by the soldiers in the mountains, which wasted their time and energy.

These items are essential, and with so many people in the camp, the consumption is bound to be considerable.

"Little darling, be prepared to suffer." Yin was right; after this period, Suo'etu would likely cut military spending, and there would be very little in the way of holiday gifts.

Qingyan was taken aback. How could there be anything missing during a festival? It's not like there's a war going on.

"It has already begun." Yin's abrupt words aroused Qingyan's suspicion.

He was torn, wondering whether he should tell Qingyan that Fei Yanggu and the others had gone to the capital to carry out their orders.

"Don't talk nonsense." Qingyan stopped Yin. She felt that if Yin talked too much, he would drag her into disaster.

Throughout history, the fierce struggle for the throne among the nine princes has caused countless people to change their expressions and led to the decline of many prominent families.

Once, none of the eight major surnames escaped; they were all caught up in the disaster.

"Okay, I'll take you to listen to a story today." Yin held Qingyan's little hand, and the two walked one after the other into a small teahouse.

She looked around the teahouse; the furnishings were simple, and there weren't many people listening to storytelling in the private rooms. Downstairs, however, it was bustling with activity, and waiters were constantly coming and going, attending to the needs of the guests.

Qingyan rarely came to this place with its complicated social circles, and seeing this scene, she looked on with curiosity.

"Let's go upstairs, we can't stay here." Yin Qing was used to peace and quiet and rarely returned to such a complicated environment.

"No, I want to listen here." Qingyan's stubbornness kicked in; she always wanted to experience more of her past life.

Before she transmigrated, she was just an ordinary person whose meager salary wasn't even enough for a down payment on a house. This kind of life forced her to work even harder.

"Absolutely not!" Yin noticed someone watching Qingyan from the side, and his temper immediately flared up.

With a stern expression, he forcefully dragged Qingyan to the private room upstairs, leaving some people watching their retreating figures with regret.

Qingyan is young, but she is very good-looking and has an even more outstanding temperament.

"Fourth Brother, look, we've been busy ever since we came out. We haven't had much time to play. We need to balance work and rest." Qingyan didn't dare say that in history, some of Yin's descendants really did die in bizarre ways.

Yin shook his head. The little one was very curious about everything outside, and it was possible that this might threaten her safety. He had brought her out, and he wanted to take her back safely, otherwise, Fei Yanggu and his two sons wouldn't let him off the hook, and there might even be a fierce battle.

"Sit down, Su Peisheng, go outside and order some tea." Yin frowned. The waiter had been staring at Qingyan ever since he entered the private room, without showing the slightest embarrassment, which annoyed him.
