When you're busy, time always flies by, and that's true even in the Forbidden City.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, has been following the Crown Prince for the past two years and has learned a lot. Although he has not yet entered the court, the Crown Prince occasionally assigns him tasks.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, was very satisfied with his current life. By the side of the Crown Prince, he received everything that other princes in the harem had, and even more of what they didn't have, because he was by the Crown Prince's side.
Whether it's a reward or the intangible attention and favor, it's much better than those princes who are not favored.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, assessed himself and figured he was somewhere in the middle in his father's heart.
Not too far ahead, not too far behind, the Fourth Prince Yinzhen is quite satisfied with this state.
He doesn't really want to stand out right now. His father is still in his prime, and he just wants to work honestly with the Crown Prince and live a peaceful life.
Although he was not usually rewarded, the Crown Prince treated him well and would always think of him when there was something good.
Fourth Prince Yinzhen stepped into his residence in the Princes' quarters. It was a courtyard of moderate size, but he found it quite spacious for him.
Duofu crossed the road a year ago and is now running around happily under the big tree in the yard.
Upon smelling the familiar scent, Duofu suddenly turned and ran towards the gate, having just caught a faint bamboo fragrance emanating from the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen.
A year ago, the Fourth Prince Yinzhen went to the Crown Prince's palace and happened to arrive at the Hundred Beasts Garden where eunuchs, on the orders of Emperor Kangxi, were delivering dogs that had been brought as tribute from foreign countries to His Highness the Crown Prince.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, spotted the puppy inside that looked exactly like his own Duofu. The eunuch in charge said that these dogs were all a month old, which was the perfect time to train them, and they would be well-behaved if raised at this age.
There were five or six puppies. Some were all black except for their baby teeth, some were all white, and the rest had gray and yellowish mixed fur, which didn't look very sophisticated.
The Crown Prince noticed that the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, was staring intently at the group of dogs. He knew that his fourth brother loved dogs very much, and that his dog had died during a serious illness a couple of years ago.
The Crown Prince laughed heartily, displaying exceptional generosity, and told the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, to choose one to take home and raise, as a gift from the elder brother to his younger brother.
Fourth Prince Yinzhen showed no politeness and pointed to the little puppy with its gray and yellow mixed fur.
The prince secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he hadn't chosen the black dog he liked, otherwise he would have had to find a reason to ask for it back.
The Crown Prince readily gave the dog that he hadn't liked to the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen.
The Crown Prince glanced at the dog his fourth brother had chosen; it was a grayish-yellow blob that lacked any aesthetic appeal and seemed somewhat unworthy of their status.
The Crown Prince intended to say a few words, suggesting that his fourth brother consider changing to a different one, as the white one was quite nice, looking noble and elegant, which suited their temperament as princes.
But seeing that his fourth brother had already reached out to hug him, his eyes were shining, and a rare emotional fluctuation appeared on his face.
The crown prince didn't intend to waste any more words, since it wasn't his responsibility to raise the child.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, held the yellow dog, looking somewhat hesitant and uneasy as he raised his head to look at the Crown Prince.
"Second Brother Crown Prince, will Father Emperor allow me to raise him?"
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, was determined to resolve this potential crisis through his favored second elder brother, the Crown Prince.
So that his father wouldn't be displeased with him keeping a dog and order its execution.
The crown prince's face was full of indifference, and his tone was arrogant and smug.
"Just rest assured and take care of it. I'm the one who's letting you take care of it, so who would dare not let you take care of it?"
Upon hearing this, the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, finally felt at ease.
His son, Duofu, was finally allowed to go outside for a stroll. He was afraid of breaking the lock that had been kept in the room all day.
As for the dog, just have the wet nurse send it to the Tong family. When he goes out to work, he can bring it back to the mansion to raise.
His Highness the Crown Prince did indeed possess such abilities. After hearing this, Emperor Kangxi showed no dissatisfaction, simply smiling and saying, "One should not let trivial matters distract one from one's ambitions," and thus accepted the offer.
It seems that Emperor Kangxi has long forgotten how much he hated his fourth son, Yinzhen, for his unpredictable temper and the harm he caused to his younger brother over a dog.
In any case, this matter is a good thing for everyone. The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, was very happy that his son, Duofu, had a public identity again and no longer had to hide all day long for fear of being discovered.
His Highness the Crown Prince was very pleased that the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, had not chosen the little black dog he had his eye on. As for the yellowish-gray dog, his own fourth brother liked it, so he sent it over, which strengthened the bond between the brothers. Why not?
As he grew older, the eldest prince always competed with him for favors and duties in the imperial court. The eldest prince was like a mad dog, relentlessly trying to catch and bite him.
The Crown Prince really needs an ally. Looking at the Fourth Prince Yinzhen who is by his side, he can be relieved of some duties and have his burdens shared.
As for Emperor Kangxi, he was quite pleased that his beloved crown prince had sent a dog to the fourth prince, thinking it was a good thing that the prince knew how to manage his subordinates.
Everyone is happy, but the happiest of all is undoubtedly the abundant blessings that belong to us.
He's just a lump of fat now, so fat you can barely see his four legs. He's like a little moving gas cylinder, bouncing around so much the floor shakes.
The Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, was initially quite worried that gaining so much weight would be bad for his health.
Under the influence of Duofu's various fallacies, the Fourth Prince Yinzhen gradually came to believe that the dog he was raising was not an ordinary dog, but a mischievous little monster, and it was only right that it ate more.
It's okay if I'm a little chubby, he doesn't mind anyway.
---
Fourth Prince Yinzhen saw that the fat, legless Duofu was running towards him from not far away. He stopped abruptly and stood there, upright as a pine tree. He was dressed in a green casual robe, which made him look gentle and refined, but he also had a frail appearance.
Duofu knew that the Fourth Prince Yinzhen only looked frail; once you pulled down his coat, you could see a full eight-pack of abs, firm, smooth, and with an excellent feel.
After Duofu has eaten his fill and had his belly rubbed, he likes to stay on it and sharpen his claws, imitating a kitten kneading its paws. It's really comfortable and has a wonderful feel.
Duofu looked at the Fourth Prince Yinzhen, who had grown up. He should be 1.75 meters tall now. He was not tall enough, but he still had time to grow, so there was no rush. He just didn't look strong and powerful enough.
In the past two years, the Fourth Prince Yinzhen has received much attention from Emperor Kangxi regarding his diet, and the emperor has been constantly ordering imperial physicians to treat his health.
Otherwise, among his group of princes, this fourth son looked particularly weak and frail.
But no matter how much the Fourth Prince Yinzhen ate, he still had this frail body. After a while, Kangxi gave up. As long as his body was fine, it didn't matter if he looked thin or not, at least he wasn't really thin.
