Chapter 16 The Making of the King of Scrolls

Chengqian Palace

While Duofu was still fast asleep in the Fourth Prince's bedchamber, the little Fourth Prince had already gotten up. With the help of the maids, he dressed, washed up, ate some snacks, and then went to his small study to diligently practice calligraphy.

While Duofu was fast asleep in bed, the Fourth Prince was writing furiously at his small desk.

Duofu on the bed seemed to have gotten tired and turned over, while the Fourth Prince on the desk was still concentrating on practicing calligraphy.

Under the guidance of a special nanny, I learned the characters that my mother had specified I should recognize today, and I had already finished practicing the larger characters I had previously learned.

After finally finishing everything, the Fourth Prince put down his small wolf-hair brush, looked out the window, and felt that there was still plenty of time.

He picked up the basic primers from the desk and began reading.

The Three Character Classic was quickly mastered because it was already very familiar to me.

The Fourth Prince picked up the Thousand Character Classic again, this time even faster.

After reading through all the books that need to be reviewed in Manchu, Mongolian, and Chinese.

The Fourth Prince looked at the barely bright sky and felt he could rest for a while before having breakfast.

So he picked up the Imperial Commentary on the Classic of Filial Piety, which his father loved most, and started reading. Although there were unfamiliar characters, he could guess and then ask his mother for help in the afternoon.

Even the complicated and boring Classic of Filial Piety was read with great interest by the little Fourth Prince.

This is probably the spirit that only someone who aspires to be a master of writing can possess from a young age.

It was already daylight outside, and Mother had already sent word that it was time to get up and go to Mother's main hall for a meal.

The Fourth Prince stretched his body, turned around and went back to his bedchamber. Looking at his bed, he saw a small bulge with a tiny paw sticking out.

The Fourth Prince couldn't help but laugh when he saw this.

"Duoduo, the sun is shining on your bottom."

The little bump on the bed was very uncooperative, remaining completely still.

The Fourth Prince coughed awkwardly, then his eyes darted around.

"Duofu, it's time to eat."

As soon as the sound fell, the bulge on the bed immediately stirred, and the little dog's head popped out of the blanket, its fur disheveled, its two fox eyes still tightly closed.

It stretched out its two paws as if it wanted to be hugged, and made whimpering noises.

"Dinner's ready."

Seeing his appearance, the Fourth Prince immediately instructed Xiao Jizi to help Duofu wash up.

A series of toiletries, already laid out to the side, were being served in an orderly fashion by the servants.

After washing up, Duofu nestled in Xiaojizi's arms and followed the Fourth Prince toward Consort Tong's main hall.

After the Fourth Prince paid his respects to his mother, he followed her to the dining table for a meal.

Because his mother was in poor health, the Fourth Prince would usually come to pay his respects to her after finishing his studies and before meals.

This was something my mother had insisted on since I was little.

Seeing Duofu enjoying his meal, the Fourth Prince felt that the food in his mouth tasted even better, and ate half a bowl more than usual.

Consort Tong stopped after a few sips in the morning, and her attendants helped her rinse her mouth.

Seeing that the Fourth Prince had eaten half a bowl more rice than usual today, her tone unconsciously carried a hint of heartache.

"This morning, I was so tired from reading that I ate more than usual."

The Fourth Prince pursed his lips shyly, paused for a moment, and then slowly spoke.

"I'm not tired. It's probably because I'm growing a bit and my weight has increased recently."

Consort Tong looked the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, up and down, and her gentle, melancholic voice rang out.

"That's true. In the blink of an eye, you're almost six years old. Next year you'll be going to the Imperial Academy to study."

After Duofu finished his meal, he overheard Consort Tong testing the Fourth Prince's studies in the next room.

Duofu listened to the Fourth Prince's exceptionally smooth answers to Consort Tong's various questions, and even asked about the contents of the Classic of Filial Piety that he did not know.

With a smile on her face, Consort Tong reached out and patted the Fourth Prince's head.

The tone was gentle, and the pace was slow.

"Zhen'er, you've been doing well lately. Your father likes children who are good at studying. Keep up the good work and try to win his favor."

The fourth prince leaned his head closer and nuzzled against her, his little face full of enjoyment.

The sweet and adorable girl had a cheerful, childlike voice.

"Yes, Mother, I will definitely try my best to win Father's favor and make Mother proud of me."

Consort Tong smiled and tapped the Fourth Prince's head, her face full of affection.

"Alright, Mother is waiting for Fourth Prince to bring honor to Mother."

Duofu was listening to the swaying music in another cubicle. He hadn't woken up properly in the morning, so getting up so early for breakfast was really not worth it.

Duofu had already fallen asleep in Xiaojizi's arms.

I kept thinking about it before I went to sleep.

Is it really worth getting up so early to eat this breakfast?

Or should I just continue sleeping next time?

He's here to be a couch potato, not a king of the hill.

Salted fish should look like salted fish.

You should sleep well, eat well, and play well.

The role of the "Scroll Prince" can be left to the Fourth Prince, Yinzhen, since he enjoys reading and aspires to be a "Scroll Prince" with ideals.

Otherwise, how could I get up so early to study?

What time was it?

I don't quite understand.

The sound of Duofu snoring could be heard.

On one side, a loving mother and filial son are on display, while on the other, a dreamer is fast asleep.
