Side Story 5: The Handsome Scholar Next Door

Zhou Yan waited outside for a long time, but there was no further movement from the closed mansion gate.

Inside, Duofu was so engrossed in the kisses that he lost all sense of time and his eyes were glazed over. He no longer remembered that there was a handsome scholar waiting for him at the door.

Yinzhen originally thought that after being turned away once, the scholar next to him would be more sensible and stop showing off his ostentatious face in front of his little ancestor who liked handsome men all day long.

Unexpectedly, the scholar became more determined with each setback, coming to the gate of the mansion to inquire about each one.

Yinzhen looked at Duofu, who was sleeping soundly in his arms with rosy cheeks, and sighed helplessly.

Who can blame them for liking it?

Even if he finds something annoying, he won't do anything that would lower his status.

Su Peisheng found it unbelievable that his master had become so generous.

Which of the handsome guards who used to catch the eye of their young master in the palace will ever appear before the emperor again?

They were all beaten and sent to some unknown corner.

Does the scholar next door possess some kind of magic?

Not only did it seduce its own little darling until its eyes lit up, but it also made its master more magnanimous and less bothered by it.

Su Peisheng originally thought that the scholar would be secretly dealt with by his master on his first visit, and that it would be impossible for him to appear within ten miles of the young master.

Not only has it not been dealt with, but it seems to be being indulged in instead.

Su Peisheng suddenly had a very terrible thought.

Does my master also want to have multiple wives?

I quickly shook my head; that doesn't make sense either.

His master might not like men, otherwise, in all these years, apart from Duofu, he had never seen any other man climb into his master's bed.

Even if the scholar was indeed very handsome, it was impossible for him to be so captivating as to be blind to his master's eyes.

Su Peisheng racked his brains but still couldn't figure out why his master had become so generous.

Once Duofu had recovered from his injury, he was in high spirits and wanted to go for a stroll outside the mansion.

After all, he had been stuck in this mansion for more than half a month, eating and sleeping all day long. He was getting restless and would become depressed if he stayed like this any longer.

He needs to go out and scatter flowers.

As soon as Duofu stepped out of the mansion, the gate of the mansion next door opened, and Zhou Yan, dressed in a light green robe, watched from afar as the lively and cheerful young man walked towards the market.

The boy's lively and cheerful demeanor was evident in his gait; he was a bright and cheerful young man, Zhou Yan thought to himself.

This is somewhat similar to the dog they keep at home; both exude a sense of vitality and life.

Zhou Yan's eyes were practically overflowing with envy. The neighbors next door were so lucky; they not only had a lively and cheerful son, but also a clever and intelligent dog.

With a person and a dog by your side, you shouldn't have any worries in life.

If you have any troubles, just look at this person or this dog, and you'll be infected by their vibrant life force and start to smile.

Duofu ran around happily, acting like a money-spending boy, and the nearby vendors were all grinning from ear to ear, each one hoping that this little darling would buy more.

During those days, they kept wondering why the young master of the easternmost mansion hadn't come to the market to throw money around. They thought something had happened and that they were going to lose a big employer.

Unexpectedly, after not seeing him for more than half a month, this spendthrift was still the same as before, showing no mercy and buying everything he saw.

Duofu didn't feel like he was wasting money at all; these things didn't cost much.

While admiring the beautifully folded grasshoppers and dragonflies on the east side, and glancing at the handmade clay sculptures by the roadside, they also carried large and small bags of fragrant snacks.

He had tried all the good food on the street, but the best one was still the fragrant roasted rabbit from the stall on the far east side.

I wonder how other people roast their rabbits?

Anyway, the taste was so good that I had never tasted anything like it in the palace.

The eggs look oily but aren't greasy at all; on the contrary, they become more and more delicious with each bite, making you want to eat more and more.

If his belly weren't too big, Duofu would have loved to take one down by himself.

Duofu's eyes lit up. He could smell the delicious roasted rabbit. He quickened his pace and ran towards the stall to the east.

The people following behind were frantically carrying their things, their eyes fixed on Duofu running ahead, afraid that something might happen and their lives would be in danger.

Although the master's temper has improved a lot now, as long as he gets involved with this little darling, his improved temper doesn't necessarily mean he'll be any better.

By the time the servants rushed up in a flurry, Duofu already had a rabbit leg in his mouth.

Mmm, it's so delicious.

It's all that damned fourth brother's fault. Why did he have to rest for so long and eat such a bland diet?

They forbid him from eating this and that, wishing they could just feed him grass like a rabbit.

He's been eating the same vegetables and radishes all day long, he's almost sick of it.

Duofu's statement was somewhat exaggerated. It simply limited his diet to one large bowl of fish and meat, and his preference for meat. The meals included many dishes from Yangzhou, which were mostly boiled or steamed and had little flavor.

It doesn't have much flavor compared to the strong-flavored Duofu.

He used to prefer roasted, braised, stir-fried, and heavily flavored, juicy dishes, and he couldn't stand eating dishes that were steamed and boiled all the time.

His fourth brother even emphasized that this was good for his health, but why would he need to be good at health?

Duofu looked at his hands, which hadn't changed in all these years, and realized he didn't need to take care of his health at all.

When Zhou Yan finally found Duofu through the crowd, he saw a boy at the stall in front of him gnawing on a rabbit leg with his mouth full of oil, looking very happy and not caring at all about the mess on his face.

Duofu turned around and looked up, and saw the handsome young scholar next door whom he hadn't seen in a long time. His eyes were about to light up, and he was about to show a good smile.

I immediately thought of the greasy rabbit I was holding, and I was sure its mouth was full of oil.

Oh no, oh no, his good image is ruined. He had originally planned to maintain a good image in front of the scholar next door and try to get closer to him.

This shows the scholar his slovenly side. Will he think he is unclean?

Moreover, judging from the fact that this scholar always liked to wear crescent-white clothes, people like that must be somewhat obsessive about cleanliness.

Without a second thought, Duofu grabbed his packed rabbit and the half-eaten rabbit leg in his right hand, and ran back as fast as he could. As long as he ran faster, nothing would happen.

Besides, most of the rabbits were right in front of him, which must have completely blocked his view. Plus, with his smeared face, people might not even recognize him.

Duofu thought it made more and more sense, and ran faster and faster. He wasn't running away; he wanted to deliver the packaged hot rabbit to his fourth brother.

After all, roasted rabbit tastes best when it's hot; it doesn't taste as good when it's cold.

Zhou Yan only felt a gust of wind pass by, and the boy who was standing in front of him had vanished without a trace.
