Chapter 29 Compassion

Li Tiao was so startled that she dropped the box containing her travel expenses that she had just brought out, scattering the gold and silver jewelry inside into the mud.

Li Tiao was heartbroken and quickly went to pick it up, but someone else had already picked up one of the silver ingots before her.

“This silver ingot looks very familiar.”

Li Tiao squatted there, caught in a dilemma, staring intently at the hem of the Fourth Prince's robe and his shoes.

What a coincidence, running into the Fourth Prince again!

While Li Tiao was caught in a dilemma, the Fourth Prince had already picked up all the gold and silver jewelry scattered on the ground and put them back into the original box.

The sound of the lid snapping shut reached Li Tiao's ears. Still hesitant, Li Tiao seemed to have figured out how to deal with it. She groped on the ground for a while, found the handle of the lantern, and then slowly stood up after holding the lantern up to her eyes.

He held the lantern up to the Fourth Prince and said, "Your Highness, may you be blessed."

The Fourth Prince stared at Li Tiao with a half-smile, then reached out and gently brushed away the handle of the lantern that Li Tiao had held up in front of him.

"The lantern was behind you when you were digging just now."

Li Tiao's hand trembled slightly, and the lantern almost touched her clothes. The Fourth Prince reached out and held Li Tiao's hand, telling her not to shake.

"In reply to you, sir, although the lantern is behind us, there is light shining through, and tonight there is both a moon and stars, so there is some light."

The Fourth Prince looked up and saw that Li Tiao hadn't lied.

He released Li Tiao's hand and looked at the box she was holding in her other hand.

Seeing this, Li Tiao, with remarkable tact, reached out her hand: "Master..."

However, the Fourth Prince did not put the box in Li Tiao's hands, but turned around and handed it to Su Peisheng.

Li Tiao's hands froze. After an awkward moment, she raised her hand and scratched her head: "My lord, why are you in the Imperial Garden so late?"

"It's so late, I didn't expect you to be digging here."

Li Tiao gritted her teeth, but still managed a smile: "This servant is...is..."

"Whose box is this? And how did you know there was such a valuable box hidden here?" the Fourth Prince asked.

Li Tiao found it hard to explain why she was hiding here.

Although she wasn't of high status, she was still a master, and hiding things here was indeed a bit excessive.

It's not his own? What if the Fourth Prince doesn't give it to him?

More importantly, how do you explain how you knew there was such a valuable box hidden there?

Li Tiao really needs to make sure she doesn't go bald. She really can't delay running away, otherwise, if she keeps putting it off and doesn't die, she'll be racking her brains every day to come up with an excuse for going bald, which would be very unfair.

Just as she was worrying, Li Tiao suddenly saw something fly by in front of her. She had a flash of inspiration: "Replying to your question, sir, I saw fireflies after I turned around here. As you know, my eyesight is not good at night. When I saw fireflies, I thought of catching a few and putting them in a lantern. It would be pretty and provide light."

After speaking, she cautiously glanced at the Fourth Prince and found that his lips were flat, and he seemed to have no emotional change.

Li Tiao wondered if he wasn't angry?

So she dared to continue: "I chased and chased until I came to this place, and saw fireflies going down to the ground. I tried to catch them, but because my eyesight isn't very good, I fell down. When I fell, I felt like I bumped into something..."

I dug it up out of curiosity..."

Li Tiao thought to herself that she was lucky she had left her digging tools on the ground.

Before the Fourth Prince could comment on his excuse, he reached out his hand towards him.

Li Tiao was puzzled.

The Fourth Prince didn't explain; he simply took the lantern from Li Tiao's hand and raised it slightly.

Li Tiao was illuminated by the lantern, and instinctively raised her hand to cover her eyes, but halfway up, she remembered that she had night blindness.

In this situation, the light suddenly improved, which should have made her feel safer, so Li Tiao changed from covering her eyes to rubbing them.

She unconsciously pouted and asked the Fourth Prince in confusion, "Your Highness, what's wrong?"

Quickly turning his head away, the Fourth Prince lowered the lantern and casually handed it to Su Peisheng, "So, from what you're saying, this box isn't yours anymore?"

Li Tiao was startled; she had been careless!

She immediately rushed in front of the Fourth Prince, spreading her arms to block him: "But Your Highness, although this box is not mine, I saw it first, so whoever sees it first owns it."

"You're quite a money-grubber."

The Fourth Prince continued walking forward, while Li Tiao retreated. "Your Highness...you can't do this. You're still a prince, how can you even take things from a servant? Are you short of money?"

"So you're short of this little bit of money?" The Fourth Prince stopped walking. Looking at Li Tiao, who was blocking his way, his eyes flashed with aggrieved light. The thought that she might not actually see him clearly made him feel a strange feeling.

"This servant cannot compare to you, Master, but I can never have too much money."

"If someone overheard you saying that, they'd think I'm mistreating you." The Fourth Prince's tone was neither warm nor cold, but it carried an unconscious gentleness.

Li Tiao naturally didn't hear it. Seeing that the Fourth Prince was walking forward again, even though Su Peisheng was holding a lantern, Li Tiao didn't dare to keep backing away so as not to expose her night blindness.

After hesitating for a moment, she reached out and grabbed the collar of the Fourth Prince's robe as he passed by.

Her actions were a bit bold. When the Fourth Prince looked over, Li Tiao timidly loosened her grip a little, but still held onto the Fourth Prince's clothes.

Sometimes Li Tiao is like a cat locked in a cage, jumping up and down trying to escape. She's a bit noisy, but not that annoying.
