Chapter 29 Nightmare

In the corner stands a green-glazed three-legged incense burner with a lotus leaf pattern. Wisps of green smoke rise from the mouth of the burner and slowly dissipate in the air.

The scent of incense with a hint of chrysanthemum lingered at Mrs. Gu's nose.

Madam Gu felt dizzy and half asleep and half awake.

“Meow!”

A strange cat's cry sounded in Madam Gu's ears, as if it was right next to her ear. She was so scared that she shuddered and sat up with a somersault.

"Someone come!" Madam Gu shouted sternly, but what came out was a "meow".

Madam Gu was stunned, vaguely realizing that something was wrong. She was clearly in her own room before she fell asleep, but now she was in a garden, surrounded by huge flowers and trees that were incredibly tall.

She raised her voice and shouted "Help come here" again, and once again heard the sharp cat's meow.

Madam Gu frowned tightly and tried to stand up, only to notice that her hands and feet had all turned into furry black claws.

"Meow!" Madam Gu was panicked. She was almost terrified. She screamed at the top of her lungs and her whole body was cold.

She finally realized that the cat's meow was made by herself. She actually turned into a cat!

“Gah!”

A pitch-black crow swooped down towards her from above in the sky. Madam Gu instinctively raised her arm to swat it, but was pecked by the bird's sharp beak.

Madam Gu screamed miserably, and the crow flapped its wings and pecked at her again, making a "cackle".

In panic, she ran frantically. Everything around her seemed so unfamiliar. The buildings, houses, trees, flowers... at this moment, they all became huge monsters, exuding a sense of oppression as if a dark cloud was covering the sky.

Behind her, the crow in the air was chasing her relentlessly, following her like a shadow, and she felt a painful peck on her back and head from time to time.

She hurriedly passed through several clumps of chrysanthemums and saw a wide and flat horse farm in front of her. In the farm, there were many spirited young men and women riding on tall horses with their hooves flying.

A polo ball the size of a bowl flew back and forth between the galloping horses and the swaying polo sticks.

In Madam Gu's eyes at this moment, those horses were like the strange monsters described in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, ferocious and weird. Just a stamp of their hooves would be enough to take her life.

Madam Gu stopped immediately and widened her eyes in fear.

The next moment, there was a "bang" sound, and a ball stick hit the polo ball hard. The polo ball flew towards her like a meteor, so fast that it was almost impossible to catch with the naked eye.

Madam Gu tried to dodge in a hurry, but she couldn't react in time. She could only watch helplessly as the polo ball, which was as fast as lightning, hit her forehead heavily...

A sharp pain that penetrated her bones came from her head, as if the sky was falling and the earth was splitting apart, and boundless darkness surged towards her...

Madam Gu closed her eyes and fell backwards uncontrollably. She could vaguely hear several noisy voices:

"Hey, where did this black cat come from?"

"What bad luck! Throw this dead cat out!"

“…”

Madam Gu felt groggy and had no strength in her whole body. She felt someone roughly lifting the back of her neck... The darkness drowned her like a bottomless swamp, and the cold and pain spread to every part of her body.

She opened her eyes with all her might and found herself thrown into a stinking garbage dump. When she opened her mouth, disgusting slop flowed between her lips and teeth.

“Woof woof…”

Two skinny wild dogs came over following the scent, staring at her with hungry and bloodthirsty eyes. Saliva dripped from their long mouths, and their sharp canine teeth flashed a frightening cold light.

A yellow dog bit her fragile and slender neck...

“Meow!”

Another shrill cat cry sounded, and Madam Gu, who was lying on the beauty couch, suddenly opened her eyes. Her cloudy eyes were filled with fear, and her chest was heaving violently.

She raised her hand eagerly and touched her face, then looked at her palm repeatedly to make sure that she was a human, not a cat, before she breathed a sigh of relief.

Zhuang Zhou dreamed of being a butterfly. Is it a dream now, or was it just a dream just now?

She sat up from the beauty couch in a daze, feeling a throbbing pain in her forehead, a splitting headache, and heavy breathing.

The talisman paper under the beauty bed had been burned to ashes. When she moved, the ashes fell lightly to the ground. The person outside seemed to have heard the movement in the room and walked in through the curtain.

"Madam!" Madam Xu bowed to the Madam and said flatteringly, "I led people to search the surrounding area carefully, but we didn't see any wild cats outside."

Madam Gu was still thinking about the dream she had just had and was in a state of uneasiness. The gruff crow's cry was still ringing in her ears and she had a bad feeling in her heart.

Madam Xu personally served tea to Madam Gu. As she bowed, she noticed a few cat hairs on her shoes. She couldn't help but frown and sighed, "Madam, in my opinion, it must be the cat raised by the second young lady that sneaked into Cihe Hall."

"This second girl is really something. She knows you are Madam Mao Ke, but she still insists on raising her."

“…”

Nanny Xu kept on talking on and on, feeling both disgusted and resentful towards Gu Yanfei.

For Gu Yanfei, she traveled thousands of miles to a remote place like Huaibei, and spent three months in Danyang City. She was away from the capital for four months, but she didn't get any benefit at all. Even her original good job was taken by someone else.

For more than half a month, Nanny Xu has been holding a grudge in her heart, thinking about finding an opportunity to teach Gu Yanfei a lesson. Now the opportunity has finally come.

Nanny Xu curled her lips, and a hint of deep malice flashed across her eyes.

When she heard the word "cat", Mrs. Gu's eyelids trembled violently and her pupils dilated.

Aunt Xu noticed the change in Madam Gu's expression and thought that she had guessed the right direction. She flattered and expressed her loyalty, "Madam, leave this matter to me. I will personally lead people to Yuheng Garden and kill the cat and throw it out to feed the dogs!!"

Mrs. Gu couldn't help but recall the scene of her lying in the garbage dump, with the long black mouth wide open and the grim fangs pointed at her neck...

A feeling of panic arose from the bottom of my heart and spread throughout my body.

"Meow!"

Suddenly, a loud cat's cry was heard outside the window, startling Mrs. Gu so much that she jumped up from the beauty bed, as if she had turned into the cat in the dream, at the mercy of others.

She pushed Aunt Xu away violently, and at the same time, the teacup in her hand fell to the ground, the blue and white porcelain teacup was smashed into pieces, the broken porcelain pieces and tea splashed everywhere, making a mess on the ground.
