Chapter 6 Fight Back

Chapter 6 Fight Back

The Anyuan Marquis Mansion was not unfamiliar to Wei Qingyan.

When she was a child, her mother was strict with her and beating, scolding and punishing her were common occurrences. However, her younger sister Wanyi was treated completely differently by her mother.

She was indignant and argued with her mother, who then punished her by making her kneel in the ancestral hall for three days.

No one is allowed to bring food.

She was seven years old that year. Her father was away at war and no one in the house dared to disobey her mother's orders. She was so hungry that she sneaked out of the house when no one was paying attention and met Du Xueyi in the alley.

He was being pinned to the ground and beaten.

She helped him fight off those people, and he took her into the Anyuan Marquis Mansion to find food.

After that, Du Xueyi followed her to practice martial arts, joined the National Protection Army, and became her right-hand man.

Wei Qingyan followed his memory and arrived at Feng Xiaoyuan.

When you open the door, you can see signs of recent renovations in the yard.

Fengxiaoyuan is the most remote courtyard in Anyuanhou Mansion. Ever since she stayed here for a night when she was seven years old, this courtyard has become her occasional respite.

The head of the Marquis's Mansion would not repair such a remote and neglected courtyard for no reason. It could only be Du Xueyi who returned to Beijing half a year ago.

Wei Qingyan felt a slight soreness in his nose.

"Miss Chang, the Marquis ordered his servants to bring these."

Du Xueyi's bodyguard A Lu came over with two maids, carrying bedding and the child's spare clothes.

"Thank you." Wei Qingyan nodded.

The room was clean and simple, with nothing else except the bed, table and chairs, just as before.

The two maids quickly made the bed, and Ah Lu also brought some hot water. "Miss Chang, do you have any other instructions?"

Wei Qingyan tilted his head to look at him, "Find some ointment."

She was not surprised that A Lu came here.

Du Xueyi was suspicious of her identity, so he asked A Lu to come and serve her as well as monitor her.

When A Lu saw her undressing the child, she understood and quickly retreated.

The Marquis ordered him to keep an eye on Miss Chang, but not to treat her badly.

"Xiaoxiao, be good. Let's wash up and change into new clothes, okay?" Wei Qingyan said softly.

Xiaoxiao was the nickname Du Xueyi gave to the child, and in the past only Fang called her that.

Hearing Wei Qingyan calling her like that, the child's dried tears welled up again. She didn't know why this person who called herself aunt knew her nickname, but it made her feel at ease.

The little head nodded heavily and leaned into Wei Qingyan's arms.

"Miss Chang, please let me come." The maid Lvliu stepped forward.

She learned from the doorman that the Marquis not only did not drive this person out but also let A Lu serve her, so she was afraid that her identity was true.

If I could make a good impression in front of her, maybe I could become her maid in the future.

Before Wei Qingyan could speak, the little person in his arms shuddered. Wei Qingyan said coldly, "You guys go out."

Lvliu felt annoyed, glared at the child imperceptibly, and left the house in embarrassment.

Although Wei Qingyan had no experience in taking care of children, Xiaoxiao had been taken care of like a child for the past three years, so cleaning her was not a difficult task.

The most difficult part was the whip wounds on the child's back, some of which had scabs stuck to his inner clothes.

He had to wet his inner garment with hot water before carefully tearing it open. Even so, the little ball in his arms still shook several times, but made no sound.

Wei Qingyan's eyes and brows turned colder, and the two kicks he just gave were still too light.

"Miss Chang, the ointment is here." A Lu's voice came from outside the door.

"Have someone bring it in."

Even though the eldest daughter was only four years old and A Lu was a boy, it was inconvenient for him to come in, so Lv Liu brought in the ointment.

Wei Qingyan took it and gently applied it to the child's wound. He asked Lvliu, who had not left, "Who is your cousin?"

"My cousin is the grandniece of the old lady's mother's family."

Lu Liu tried to please her by adding in a low voice, "The old lady likes my cousin very much and intends to make her the Marquis's second wife."

Remarry?

It’s only been half a year since Fang’s accident, and the old lady of the Marquis’ Mansion has already found a replacement?

Or did you have this idea from the beginning?

Wei Qingyan applied the ointment, dressed Xiaoxiao, and laid her on the bed. He asked casually, "When did this cousin come to the Marquis' Mansion?"

Lvliu was about to reply when she heard Ah Lu's voice outside the door, "Miss, there are guests of the Marquis inside. You are not allowed to barge in without permission."

"My great aunt is ill now, and there are guests coming to our house. My cousin is busy, so I have to entertain him well." A gentle voice sounded.

Then, there was the sound of the door being pushed open.

Wei Qingyan hugged the person who suddenly crawled into the quilt into his arms and patted her back gently to comfort her.

His eyes were still looking at Lvliu, waiting for her reply.

Luliu wanted to please Wei Qingyan, but she also didn't want to offend her cousin. How could she talk about her in front of her? So she hesitated and kept silent.

"What's your name, young lady? Which side of my cousin's family are you related to?" Guan Yu'er walked slowly to Wei Qingyan with her maid, looking him in the eye.

I heard that the Marquis took a woman to the backyard, and that woman took the little bastard away.

Her people couldn't find out the specific reason, and the yard was guarded by guards, so no one could enter.

She felt uneasy and wanted to come and see what was going on.

Wei Qingyan glanced at her indifferently and looked at A Lu behind her.

"The old woman said earlier that she abused Xiaoxiao at the behest of her cousin. Is the cousin she was referring to the one in front of us?"

A Lu was angry that Guan Yu'er relied on her being a woman and he didn't dare to touch her, so he walked forward and pushed the door open, not expecting Wei Qingyan to ask so directly.

Subconsciously, "It's her."

"What abuse? What orders?" Guan Yu'er's eyes quickly filled with tears, as if she had suffered a great injustice. She looked at Wei Qingyan angrily, "This is our first meeting, and we have no grudges against each other. How could you wrong me like this?"

But I was frightened.

She had come here because she was worried that the injuries on the child would be discovered, hoping to find a reason to take the child away. After all, the Marquis didn't care about the child because of Fang's matter.

If she took it away, she would have a way to cover it up.

Unexpectedly, she was still a step late.

Wei Qingyan seemed not to hear her words. She looked at the child in her arms and asked softly, "Tell your aunt if she asked someone to bully you. If so, your aunt will fight back for you."

Upon hearing this, Xiaoxiao looked up at her, her eyelashes trembling, as if she was confirming whether these words were credible, or perhaps she was measuring whether this aunt who treated her like a mother could defeat the person who harmed her.

A person of unknown origin dared to say such words. Guan Yuer felt that the woman in front of her was extremely arrogant, but feeling the stern aura from her, she inexplicably felt that she would really do this.

"My great-aunt is not in good health and entrusted this child to me. I love her so much, how could I order someone to abuse her?"

She forced herself to remain calm, "There must be some misunderstanding here. I don't know who the girl is, but you have to leave eventually, and this child and I will be together for the rest of our lives.

How are we supposed to get along in the future if you try to sow discord between us?"

She said this to the child rather than to Wei Qingyan.

My great-aunt is ill now, and she is using filial piety to pressure the Marquis to agree to marry her as his second wife. She must not be interfered with by anyone.

It was also her fault for being too impatient. She should have waited until she got married before getting rid of this annoying little thing.

She lowered her eyes, hiding the murderous intent in them.

Fortunately, this little guy is a coward, and after hearing what she said, he would definitely not dare to say anything nonsense.

Thinking of this, she was no longer so anxious.

Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he reached out to hug the child.

Then she heard the child's weak voice say, "She said I was a wild child, and that I was alive because I took the title of the eldest daughter. She asked the servants to beat me and not give me food..."

"Auntie knows."

Wei Qingyan rubbed her head, frowned, grabbed Guan Yuer's outstretched wrist, exerted force, and broke it with a click.

How could she not hear Guan Yuer's threat?

Guan Yuer let out a half breath, but it got stuck in her throat because of the child's words. The severe pain from her wrist made the remaining half breath stuck in her throat.

Her face turned red, and she didn't know whether it was because she was holding it in or because of the pain.

As Wei Qingyan covered the child's ears, Guan Yu'er let out a shrill scream...
