Chapter 61: Things Between Women
Gong Mingcheng pulled Wei Shiran, who had a murderous look on her face and almost bumped into Dongzang, to his side.
"Ma'am, what are you doing?"
Wei Shiran stumbled a bit after being pulled, and after she steadied herself with Gong Mingcheng's strength, she said angrily, "You've come at the perfect time. Find a way for me to visit Madam Wu in the Ministry of Justice prison."
Gong Mingcheng looked at her eyes which were obviously from crying, and then thought of his wife's speculation about Miss Chang's identity two days ago, and he understood immediately.
I'm afraid that Miss Chang in the room is really my brother-in-law. Who knows how much suffering he must have suffered for his wife to have such a fierce look on her face.
He said, "Madam, please wait for me for a moment. I will go to see Miss Chang first and then go with you later."
"No, you just need to ask someone to take care of it. Men don't need to get involved in matters between women."
Gong Mingcheng understood that if Shi Ran went alone, it was a personal grudge, but if he went with her, it would easily escalate to a political matter.
He called his personal attendant and gave him a few instructions, and the personal attendant hurriedly took Wei Shiran away.
Watching his wife leave like a rooster about to fight, he smiled silently. He liked her energy when he fell in love with her at first sight.
He mourned silently for Madam Wu in his heart, and apologized to Dong Zang, "Excuse me, my wife has always been gentle and virtuous. I'm afraid she was angered by the viciousness and meanness of the Wu family today. She has never been like this before."
Dong Zang curled the corners of his mouth. If it weren't for his relationship with General Wei and his understanding of the Wei family, he would have really believed what Gong Mingcheng said.
The first four girls in the Wei family were raised by Old Madam Wei, who was known for her fierce temper.
Hearing that the Wei Kingdom was founded, General Wei and his family came to the capital to settle down. At a banquet, the wives of officials in the capital mocked the Wei family, saying that they were a small family. They said that General Wei relied on trickery to become a general, while the women of the Wei family followed their relatives to rise to power, but were really like little women at heart.
Old Madam Wei spat in the faces of several ladies on the spot, and followed General Wei to lead the troops to fight the enemy, sleeping in the open air and helping the late emperor to quell the chaos in the world.
From counting the origins of every scar on General Wei's body to how the wives of officials, boasting of their noble status, sought protection from military generals in troubled times.
The women of the Wei family, when the soldiers were fighting on the front lines, would sew winter clothes for them, farm the fields for military rations, and so on, and they scolded those who ridiculed them.
Later, some people who didn't believe in the evil deliberately provoked her, but they were all defeated by the old lady's scolding. The old lady's words were rough but reasonable, and none of her words were empty. They really had no way to refute her.
A girl raised by such an old man, you say she is gentle?
Oh, when you don't provoke them, the girls from the Wei family are indeed easy to get along with.
Moreover, now, his prince and Madam Gong are from the same faction.
He hurriedly bowed and said, "Master Gong is right. The Wu family is truly despicable."
Gong Mingcheng nodded in agreement.
The two of them came to see Wei Qingyan, but she was a girl, so she had to go to see Du Xueyi first, and then he would go to see Wei Qingyan together.
When they arrived, Wei Qingyan happened to be in Du Xueyi's study.
Like Wei Shiran, Gong Mingcheng also bowed deeply upon meeting her, "Miss, I will never forget your kindness."
He originally came to express his gratitude and pick up his wife, but he met Dong Zang who came here with him. Now that he knows that Miss Chang is Wei Qingyan, there are some things that he cannot say in front of Dong Zang.
Then he looked at Dongzang.
Dong Zang bowed and said, "Miss Chang, Madam Wu's Nanny Chen is not dead. She is now being held captive in the temple where the prince is recuperating. The prince asked me to ask you, Miss Chang, if you would like to send her here?"
"Not dead?" Du Xueyi was surprised.
This is what he talked about with the general before Dongzang and the others came.
The secret guards had been keeping an eye on the Wu Mansion. After the masters of the Wu family were imprisoned, Nanny Chen died of poisoning. The secret guards examined Nanny Chen's body and found that she was indeed dead.
The general should have been told about this on the day it happened, but the general was resolving the grievances at the Gong Mansion that day and then was in a coma for three days. He only found an opportunity then, and just after he finished reporting, Dong Zang said that the person was still alive.
Dong Zang knew that Du Xueyi was also sending people to monitor the Wu Mansion, so he explained, “The prince realized that Madam Wu wanted to kill Nanny Chen, so he replaced the poison with a fake death drug.
After taking the fake death drug, he died within twelve hours. There is only one such drug in the world, so the secret guards at the mansion didn't notice it.
This medicine was newly developed by Mr. Jing, and he left it to the prince before leaving Beijing.
The only medicine in the world was used on Nanny Chen. Du Xueyi looked at Wei Qingyan.
Wei Qingyan nodded and said, "Thank your prince for me. I will go to see Nanny Chen tomorrow night."
"Miss, you're welcome. My prince has the same goal as you." Dong Zang bowed again. "The prince also asked me to tell you something. On the day you fell unconscious, His Majesty also collapsed in the Imperial Garden and didn't wake up until the next day."
The emperor is also in a coma?
"Do you know the reason?" Wei Qingyan asked.
Why did Shi Yu specifically ask Dong Zang to tell her this?
Dong Zang shook his head. "The imperial physician couldn't diagnose anything wrong. The pulse is normal, and there are no symptoms of poisoning. Your Majesty has always been in good health."
The imperial doctors in the palace are not there to sit there and do nothing. If someone falls ill, they will definitely find out the cause.
Wei Qingyan lowered his eyes slightly. He fell into coma at the same time as her, and there was no reason for it. Could it be related to the life-saving talisman she used that day?
But she paid with half her life, what does it have to do with the emperor?
Did Shi Yu tell her this because he suspected she was behind this? Or was he testing her for something?
After Dongzang finished speaking, he bowed and left.
Gong Mingcheng didn't know whether Wei Qingyan had revealed his identity to Wei Shiran, and didn't know how far their conversation had progressed, so he didn't dare to recognize him rashly.
Then he told her about the ghost grudge of the Gong family.
After finding out the reason for the other half's resentment that day, he immediately erected a new tombstone for Gong Changying, burned the two sets of clothes in front of the grave, and recounted the whole incident in detail in front of the two graves.
That night, several people who were present at the scene of the dispute all dreamed that Gong Changying was holding Old Madam Gong's hand, and Old Madam Gong was holding a baby boy in her arms.
The two men first apologized to their descendants, and then pushed the baby boy forward. The baby boy disappeared, and the two men walked towards the Yellow Springs Road covered with red spider lilies with smiles.
Qin's dream had one more thing than the others, which was a chubby baby boy falling into her arms.
The Gong family speculated that the baby boy should be the child given by the old couple to Qin.
The next day, Gong Minglou invited a doctor to come in and take care of Qin's health.
With the matter of their parents in mind, the two should be able to open their hearts to each other. Wei Qingyan listened with a smile.
Gong Mingcheng was still thinking about his wife, so he exchanged a few more words of greeting and left.
After everyone left, Du Xueyi was still thinking about the questions he had asked Jingzhe earlier. He had no time to tell the general. Just as he was about to say it, Gong Jin came looking for him again with a smile.
He had no choice but to swallow his words back into his stomach.
On the other side, Dong Zang returned to Prince Rong's Mansion and told Shi Yu everything about Wei Qingyan's reaction.
Shi Yu frowned slightly and murmured, "So, she doesn't know the reason why the emperor fell into a coma. I sensed something was wrong with her that day. Perhaps it was because I had offered my soul fire to help her revive, or perhaps the key to her resurrection now rests with me.
But what on earth was the emperor doing? I was just panicking, but the emperor just passed out. What's the connection between them?"
Dong Zang couldn't answer this question, so he stood quietly aside, not daring to disturb his master's thoughts.
But I was wondering what Wei Shiran would do to Mrs. Wu.
