Chapter 182 The Woman in the Mask

"Don't cry, we have to hurry up and leave, otherwise my mother will be back soon." Huyan Xiaozhe tugged at the little dumpling's sleeve.

The little girl reluctantly put her mother's things back; she couldn't take them with her yet because her aunt would find out.

The little dumpling wiped away her tears with her round, lotus-root-like arms and ran out of the secret room with Huyan Xiaozhe.

She was determined to find out about her mother's affairs and why her aunt had kept those things hidden. The little girl was thinking this when she heard footsteps approaching from afar.

The little dumpling quickly pulled Huyan Xiaozhe behind a tree. Their two small bodies were hidden by the thick tree trunk, making them difficult to spot.

"Have Huyan Sai and the Great Wizard arrived in the capital soon?"

It was Yu Yiman's voice. Xiao Tuanzi and Hu Yanxiaozhe exchanged a glance and simultaneously made a "shh" gesture to each other.

Fu Yun, the maidservant beside Yu Yiman, replied, "It will be soon, in the next few days. You invited the king as the queen and the crown prince, he will not refuse to come."

Yu Yiman sneered, "He never loved me, and of course, I never loved her either."

Suddenly, Mu Tingzheng's face flashed into her mind—the man she had loved her whole life. Thinking of her beloved, Yu Yiman's hand involuntarily touched her face. Her face was ruined; how could she ever see him again?

Seeing the sadness in Yu Yiman's eyes, Fu Yun comforted her, "Your Majesty, rest assured, the alchemy furnace is ready, and the Grand Wizard will be here soon. On the day of the Empress's delivery, we will throw the two children into the alchemy furnace and refine them into spirit meatballs."

The little dumpling's heart skipped a beat; her aunt actually knew about the Spirit Meatball!

The sadness in Yu Yiman's eyes turned into endless ruthlessness. She gritted her teeth and said, "Fortunately, I had you secretly follow Su Ruiling that day, which is how you heard about the pill refining. Otherwise, I would still be in the dark."

Only after Yu Yiman and the other girl had walked far away did the little dumpling dare to come out from behind the tree.

Her back was covered in cold sweat. The thought of her aunt scheming against her aunt and the two babies terrified her.

Huyan Xiaozhe was in no better shape; his face was deathly pale, and he muttered in disbelief, "How could this be! How could my mother do such a thing?"

Even though his mother was usually indifferent and aloof towards him, he couldn't believe that the mother he had always loved could be such a ruthless person.

The little dumpling put her hand on Hu Yanzhe's shoulder, "Xiaozhe, don't be sad, we need to find a way to stop Yu Yiman now."

......

On the day Huyan Sai arrived, the emperor and empress led all the officials to welcome him.

Just as the little dumpling was anxiously waiting in his second brother's arms, he heard the envoy's report from afar, followed by the slow arrival of the royal retinue of the King of Tianlang Kingdom.

Unlike the solemn and grand style of their own country, the ceremonial procession of the Sirius Kingdom carries a wild and primitive air.

As the procession drew closer, the little dumpling's gaze was drawn to the entire silver-white wolf pelt, its complete head pointing high into the sky—something the little dumpling had never seen before.

Aside from that unique style, the little dumpling was immediately drawn to the person sitting next to the King of Tianlang Kingdom. The woman had her back straight, which was completely different from Huyan Sai, who was sitting cross-legged next to her.

What's even more unique is that the woman was wearing a golden mask, making it impossible to see her face.

The woman, who had been sitting upright, seemed to sense that innocent yet ardent gaze, and suddenly opened her eyes, which she had been resting with closed.

Their eyes met from afar, yet a strange feeling transcended the distance, striking their hearts directly.

Without a second brother's notice, the little girl jumped down and ran straight ahead, ignoring the people calling her from behind.

Pulling the king's carriage was a giant elephant with silver tusks. Suddenly, it saw a small figure running towards it. Out of its animalistic instincts, it raised its thick elephant leg and stepped on the little dumpling.

As the shadow fell over his head, the little dumpling quickly rolled away to avoid the kick.

Although the giant elephant was large, it was not as agile as the little dumpling. Seeing that it had missed its footing, it raised its foot again to launch an attack.

The little girl dodged a few blows, but gradually her strength gave out. Just as she was about to scream for help, the giant elephant suddenly let out a loud, mournful cry.

The little dumpling looked up and saw the woman wearing a golden mask squatting on the giant elephant's head, her dagger already piercing one of the elephant's eyes.

Without hesitation, she drew her dagger and blinded the giant elephant's other eye.

The giant elephant, now blind, dared not move. Unable to foresee the dangers around it, it could only instinctively curl up and remain still.

After dealing with the giant elephant, the woman leaped down and came to the little dumpling.

The little dumpling didn't know who she was, but it reached out its hands to her, a gesture of wanting a hug and comfort after the fear had subsided.

Faced with that tiny embrace, the woman did something that shocked the little dumpling.

She bent down, pressed the dagger that had blinded the giant elephant against the little dumpling's neck, and asked coldly:

"Who are you? Why did you startle the king's palanquin?"
