As the little dumpling picked up stones, she answered, "We're playing a game of picking up stones, but they won't play with us, so the three of us will play together."
"Come and help me pick up the stones too."
Upon hearing about playing games, Mu Yanxiu excitedly picked up stones.
Although Meng Fei was still a little confused, she still picked them up with them.
"Hey? Look at them, what are they doing picking up stones?" Zhuang Yueyue, who was not far away, saw the three of them and pulled Chi Yuning aside.
Chi Yuning frowned in disgust. "They're actually picking up stones. How dirty."
The little dumpling, holding a stone in its hand, came to an open space.
She used stones to make a small square on the ground, and then placed two more small squares on top of the small square.
They were arranged one or two pieces alternately.
The little dumpling was in charge of arranging the patterns on the ground, while Mu Yanxiu and Meng Fei were in charge of handing her stones.
Before long, a series of irregular small squares were arranged.
Mu Yanxiu scratched her head, wondering what kind of game this was.
Meng Fei clapped and cheered, "This is hopscotch! I never knew you could play this!"
The little dumpling smiled and said, "Of course!"
Hopscotch is a game that children in the countryside like to play. When Xiaotuanzi was in Qinghe Town, she often played it with her brothers, the Little Wolf Brothers.
Meng Fei came from a low-class background, so naturally she knew about this game.
Only Mu Yanxiu, who was born into the Mu family, didn't know this, and she asked curiously:
"How come you two both know how to play this game?! How do you play it? Teach me quickly!"
Mengfei took a large rock, turned her back and tossed it, and the rock landed in one of the smaller squares.
Meng Fei pointed to the square and said, "Okay, I can't jump over there anymore."
Immediately afterwards, Mengfei hopped across the small squares, either on one foot or two feet, depending on the number of squares.
"You can't touch the edge of the small square, or you'll fail!" the little dumpling added.
This was the first time Mu Yanxiu had ever seen this kind of game. Unlike pitch-pot or grass fighting, she was immediately intrigued.
"It's my turn, it's my turn, let me try."
Mu Yanxiu imitated Meng Fei, first turning her back and throwing the large rock, then jumping onto the small square.
She watched Meng Fei dance with great ease, but when she tried it herself, she realized it wasn't that easy at all.
The grid was a bit too big, and Mu Yanxiu rarely moved around. When she tried to hop on one foot, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
The little boy was startled and quickly ran over.
The little dumpling thought that, given Mu Yanxiu's personality, she would immediately burst into tears.
But Mu Yanxiu got up from the ground on her own. She dusted off her hands and said nonchalantly, "Auntie, I lost. It's your turn to jump."
The little dumpling suggested, "Then we'll each jump once, and get a point for each successful jump. After three rounds, we'll see who has the highest score."
"Yay!"
"OK!"
Meng Fei and Mu Yanxiu raised their hands and feet in agreement.
After all, just playing games is too boring; adding some competitions makes it much more interesting.
So the little dumpling was the first to start; she lifted her skirt and began to jump.
The little dumpling hadn't played hopscotch in a long time, and although she was a bit rusty, she still managed to hop around nimbly.
The three of them jumped in turn, occasionally letting out joyful laughter.
When the little girl came to her senses, she realized that her classmates had gathered around and were staring at them intently.
"Um... what kind of game is this?" a girl asked the little dumpling.
Apart from exceptionally gifted individuals like Meng Fei, the students who are admitted to Puxi Academy are all from well-off families; otherwise, they wouldn't be able to recognize and write characters at such a young age.
So they had never seen this kind of game played in the countryside before, and they all curiously gathered around.
Before the little dumpling could speak, Mu Yanxiu had already put her hands on her hips and said with a disdainful look:
"You guys don't even know this game?! You're so out of touch!"
She completely forgot that she didn't know about this game either.
The girl was embarrassed by Mu Yanxiu's retort, blushed and stopped talking. The tall girl next to her had no choice but to say:
"Why don't we play together? That way we'll know what games are."
Mu Yanxiu extended her hand, making a gesture of refusal.
"No, our team of three is already full. You guys should go to another team!"
The little dumpling burst out laughing. Mu Yanxiu's words were exactly the same words the tall girl had used to reject them.
Who would have thought that a rural game could cause such a dramatic turn of events?
The little dumpling looked at Zhuang Yueyue and Chi Yuning with curiosity, as if she wanted to play the game.
She looked at the two of them and said, "That's right, we don't play with bad kids either!"
Zhuang Yueyue and Chi Yuning's expressions immediately turned ugly.
Zhuang Yueyue said angrily, "Hmph! If you don't want to play, then don't. It's just a stupid game, who wants to play with you!"
After saying that, Zhuang Yueyue told everyone to disperse.
But they were just a group of four or five-year-old children, how could they resist the temptation of games!
A group of people looked back every few steps, reluctant to leave the three people who were continuing to play hopscotch.
Finally, Zhuang Yueyue simply followed Xiao Tuanzi's example and started arranging stones on the ground to make blocks just like Xiao Tuanzi.
Seeing that Zhuang Yueyue was going to imitate her, the little dumpling ran over with Mu Yanxiu and kicked all the blocks that Zhuang Yueyue had arranged to scatter.
Zhuang Yueyue yelled angrily, "Get out of my way! Don't disturb my game!"
The little dumpling made a face at her, "If you want to play, play your own game, don't copy mine!"
Zhuang Yueyue bullied Meng Fei, lied to get her spanked, and stole her food.
Little Tuanzi wouldn't be polite to someone like that!
When Zhuang Yueyue saw that Xiao Tuanzi wouldn't let her arrange the grid, she simply smashed all the stones in her hand on the ground and stormed off toward the grid that Xiao Tuanzi had arranged.
Hmph, if you won't let me, then I won't let you play either!
