On a dark and windy night, gusts of cold wind swept through the corridor.
Following Fan Hai's instructions, the Mu family extinguished all the candles.
Under the moonlight, the vast Mu family compound appeared eerily gloomy.
Madam Bai shivered and tightened her clothes.
She rushed to Fan Hai, who was walking ahead of her, and asked, "Master Fan, what should I do in a moment?"
Fan Hai suddenly stopped, turned around and gestured to Madam Bai to shut up.
Madam Bai was startled, and seeing his complicated expression, she trembled with fear.
He hurriedly covered his mouth, not daring to say another word.
"Just follow me." Fan Hai continued walking forward along the corridor.
Madam Bai followed, trembling.
"What bad luck, how did we end up being chosen for this job..."
"Exactly, what if we run into what happened last night again?"
Behind Madam Bai followed two maids carrying funerary objects. The two spoke softly, their voices filled with barely concealed fear.
What happened last night?
Madam Bai couldn't help but turn around and ask them, "What are you talking about?"
The maids, who had been whispering amongst themselves, immediately shut their mouths.
The two shook their heads solemnly.
Seeing the two of them like this, Madam Bai's curiosity grew even stronger.
She quickly grabbed one of the maids and asked:
"Tell me quickly, what are you talking about?"
The maid kept shaking her head, as if recalling something extremely terrifying, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Another maidservant quickly spoke up: "Nothing, nothing at all, we didn't say anything, we didn't see anything."
The more she said this, the deeper the doubts became in Madam Bai's mind.
Madam Bai threatened the two men, "Speak quickly! Otherwise, I'll tell my daughter that you disrespected me, and then I'll drag you both out and beat you to death!"
The two maids exchanged a glance and had no choice but to tell Madam Bai the truth.
"Strange things have started happening in the manor ever since the little princess fell into a coma."
"The servants on night watch said that around midnight they always see a strange little figure floating by, but they can't figure out who it is."
Madam Bai swallowed hard, and said in a trembling voice:
"What nonsense are you talking about! They must have seen it wrong."
The maidservant suddenly grabbed Madam Bai's hand, her face filled with terror, and said:
"No! It's true, because I saw it last night..."
Madam Bai felt a chill run down her spine, and goosebumps immediately rose on her skin.
The maid continued:
"I saw a person lying on the ground, and a child was lying next to her."
"The child seemed to be biting something. I was so scared that my legs went weak and I fell to the ground."
"The child heard this, let out a few sinister laughs, and then slowly turned his head."
"Guess what I saw?"
Madam Bai shook off the maid's hand, covered her ears, and screamed, "Ah! Stop talking! Stop talking!"
Upon hearing Madam Bai's voice, Fan Hai rebuked her angrily:
"Shut up! Do you want to attract evil spirits here?"
Madam Bai ran to Fan Hai's side, clutching his sleeve tightly as if grasping at a lifeline.
"Master, help! There's a ghost! There's a ghost here!"
Fan Hai glared at the two maids and reprimanded them:
"With this master here, no evil spirits dare to cause trouble."
"Stop talking nonsense."
The two maids exchanged a glance as they looked at Madam Bai, who was cowering in fear beside Fan Hai.
"Yes, yes, we were talking nonsense."
Fan Hai picked up the trembling Madam Bai and said, "If you're afraid, why don't you go back? I'll find someone else to guide your soul."
Madam Bai swallowed hard. Although her heart was pounding with fear, she forced herself to speak:
"No need, no need, I can manage!"
Anyway, with Master Fan around, as long as she stays with him, she doesn't need to be afraid of those evil spirits.
Fan Hai nodded and continued walking forward.
Madam Bai quickly followed, staying close to him, her eyes darting around anxiously.
Fan Hai led her to a pavilion, where an altar had been set up in the center, with a rooster in the middle of the altar.
After Fan Hai had two maids place the funerary objects around the altar, he dismissed them.
Only Fan Hai and Madam Bai remained in the pavilion.
The wind howled strangely at night, and Madam Bai clenched her fists, not daring to leave the Brahma Sea for even a moment.
Fan Hai picked up a basin and said to Madam Bai:
"Put this on your face."
A foul, fishy smell wafted from the basin, and Madam Bai covered her nose with her hand in disgust.
"Master Fan, what is this?"
Fan Hai: "Black dog blood can be used to ward off evil spirits. If you don't apply it, I'm afraid you'll be haunted by evil spirits."
Upon hearing that she was possessed by evil spirits, Madam Bai didn't hesitate. She put her hands into the basin, dipped them in black dog blood, and smeared it on her face.
"Ugh!" Madam Bai felt nauseous; the foul smell almost made her vomit.
But to save her life, she obediently smeared all the black dog blood on her face.
