Chapter 5 Imperial Marriage

It was because of these reasons that she was able to achieve numerous feats on the battlefield, while still maintaining the appearance of a delicate young woman.

“Now that Father has regained consciousness, I no longer need to bear these burdens.”

Li Chang'an broke free from his embrace and knelt on both knees: "Your subject has become accustomed to the current life, please allow me, Father."

Emperor Changxing looked at his daughter kneeling on the ground, pondered for a moment, and then suddenly asked her, "My daughter, have you ever thought about becoming an empress?"

Li Chang'an was startled. Did he mean...?

"Little Seven is unruly and unfit to be the Crown Prince. After Father has eliminated the dissidents, shall the position of Crown Prince be passed to my son?"

Li Chang'an's heart sank. He slowly kowtowed before saying, "Your subject is a woman. Since the time of our ancestors, the throne has been passed down to my son. I have never had any improper thoughts."

"Absurd! My son is doing a great job as a female general now!"

Li Chang'an shook his head, "My daughter is going to war as a general for the sake of her family and country. Moreover, being a general and governing a country are two different things. I know that Father loves his daughter, but I ask that Father give up this idea!"

Li Chang'an knelt on the ground. Emperor Changxing did not speak, but she sensitively sensed the burning gaze upon her. Was it scrutiny? Or was it determining whether what she said was true? Li Chang'an felt a chill in her heart.

It was only much later that Li Chang'an heard him say, "Father will not force you."

The two talked for a long time, and Li Chang'an left after seeing the weariness that Emperor Changxing could not hide in his eyes.

Night had fallen, and a light rain began to fall, carrying a chill with it. Li Chang'an walked alone, pondering the old emperor's words. After a long silence, he sighed; imperial kinship was simply a luxury.

"Your Highness," a voice suddenly rang out from the side.

Li Chang'an looked in the direction of the sound and saw Feng Beichuan, dressed in white, standing in front of the palace gate with an umbrella not far away.

He strolled a few steps and held an umbrella over her, saying, "It's late and the rain is chilly; Your Highness should take care of yourself."

Li Chang'an was ungrateful. Instead, he shoved him against the wall and grabbed his neck tightly: "What's your purpose? Did you anticipate all of this?"

Feng Beichuan smiled sweetly, "Your Highness is saying that the loving father and filial daughter of the past have turned into mutual scheming now—it hurts..."

Li Chang'an tightened her grip, the coldness in her eyes seeming to pierce him. She looked at Feng Beichuan's face, which was flushed red from suffocation, and said ruthlessly, "You actually dared to scheme against me."

“Scheming…no, you’re still too naive,” Feng Beichuan said, enunciating each word clearly. “We are blood enemies…why should I play the role of a loving father and filial daughter with him?”

Li Chang'an felt a sharp pain in his head, and his hand slowly loosened its grip.

He gasped for breath and sneered, "Our prince doesn't know yet that your most beloved father is the very enemy who killed his parents."
