Chapter 5 Imperial Marriage

The young prince threw down his pen, exclaiming in surprise, "Another marriage proposal? Not here to fight?"

Li Chang'an sneered: "His leg is healed? Did someone have to carry him here?"

"General, your predictions are spot on! That scoundrel really was carried here!"

Li Chang'an paused for a moment, then picked up his sword from a wooden shelf without hesitation and strode towards the door.

Outside the General's Mansion, Li Chang'an could hear the banging of gongs and drums from afar, making quite a scene. Upon approaching, he was even more astonished and began to wonder if Feng Beichuan had lost his mind!

He was leaning back in a wicker chair, playing a small gong. A few steps ahead of him, four men in elaborate red, purple, blue, and green robes were waving flags and shouting encouragement.

Li Chang'an

"Marry him!"

"Be gentle!"

"Don't do it!"

Li Chang'an: ...

But the scene suddenly fell silent after she appeared.

Li Chang'an stopped, drew her sword, its sharp edge flashing with a light that startled the four flamboyant figures at the front, causing them to stumble back several steps. She then hurled the sword, sending it flying like an arrow straight at the man on the rattan chair.

She wanted him dead.

Unfortunately, Feng Beichuan, who was on the bamboo chair, lunged to the side and narrowly avoided the sword. The blade grazed past him, slicing across his cheek and embedding itself deeply in the ground.

Li Chang'an licked his back teeth and sighed, "Tsk, what a pity."

"Your Highness, I truly admire you and sincerely request your marriage. Are you really so heartless?!"

His eyes were filled with tears, and a bright red bloodstain slid down his cheek from the wound. He collapsed to the ground, and an uninformed person would really think: This is some heartless noble lady who has abandoned her beloved lover!

"I have said that if he commits this offense again, he will be killed," she said, taking the bow and arrow handed to her by Vice General Sun and aiming at him.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! I will take my men and leave immediately!"

Feng Beichuan fled in disarray once again.

Li Chang'an thought that this warning had been enough, and that the guy would definitely not dare to provoke her again, but she still underestimated his shamelessness.

When Feng Beichuan came to propose marriage for the third time, Li Chang'an ignored him; when he came for the fourth time, Li Chang'an still ignored him... until Deputy General Sun appeared in a hurry for the fifth time.

"That fellow has come to propose marriage again?" Li Chang'an said, getting up, picking up the prepared bow and arrows, determined to resolve this trouble once and for all this time.

Unexpectedly, Deputy General Sun looked troubled and said in a panic, "General, that scoundrel didn't come to ask for a marriage today, he came to bestow a marriage upon us!"

"By the grace of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: My son Yong'an is virtuous and kind, and has devoted himself to serving the country. He has already done much for Shengnan, causing me great worry and sleepless nights. The Regent Prince Feng Beichuan is of outstanding appearance. I hereby bestow marriage upon the two of them, wishing them a long and loving life together. This is my decree."

Feng Beichuan closed the imperial edict, looking at her with a smile: "Your Highness, we are now family. Please accept the edict."

Everyone present thought Emperor Changxing had gone mad, actually bestowing his own eldest princess upon him in marriage. Feng Beichuan was indeed of high status, but who in the world did not know that Princess Yong'an, Li Chang'an, had married Qin Jiang, the eldest son of the General's Mansion, three years ago, and her three-year widowhood period had not yet ended!

Deputy General Sun couldn't help but look at the woman kneeling on the ground. Her dark hair cascaded down her fair face, and her curled eyelashes trembled. This was the most esteemed princess of Sheng Nan Kingdom, and the most respected General Yong'an among all the soldiers. Now, she was being forced to remarry—it was simply outrageous!

He pushed off with his feet, intending to get up and kill the scoundrel, but was instead pushed back down by the people around him.

"General, could it be that you..." He couldn't believe it.

Li Chang'an ignored him, looking directly at the man and saying with a faint smile, "What if I don't marry him—"

Feng Beichuan knew she was threatening him; if he dared to say no, this female assassin would surely kill him with a single blow. So he readily replied, "Your Highness is joking. I certainly wouldn't dare to force you. I will wait until the day you willingly marry me."

Li Chang'an chuckled and stood up, making no mention of the fact that he had twice sent men to infiltrate the Zhengqing Palace at night, and that his men had been detained.

She mounted her horse and galloped towards the palace, leaving behind only the words, "I wish to apologize in person."

As if Feng Beichuan had given prior instructions, she traveled without hindrance this time and soon arrived at Zhengqing Palace.

"Princess, you've finally arrived!" Qin Xi greeted her with a smile.

Li Chang'an had wanted to take him away from the palace last time, but after hesitating, he decided to stay in the palace to take care of his father, the emperor, in place of his deceased mother.

“After you left last time, the Regent Prince led his men to put the Imperial Noble Consort under house arrest, and she hasn’t been released yet,” he glanced around and then said cautiously in a low voice, “The night before last, he suddenly brought someone into the Emperor’s inner palace, and yesterday the Emperor suddenly recovered and became lucid.”

Li Chang'an's eyes flashed: "I understand."

She stepped into the inner hall, and upon seeing the middle-aged man on the bed who had lost a lot of weight, she immediately knelt down to pay her respects, "Father."

Emperor Changxing gently stroked his daughter's head, a tear sliding down his cheek: "It's all my fault, that my daughter has suffered so much."

Li Chang'an instinctively flinched and shook his head silently.

"Your subject is not suffering."

“How could it not be bitter? I heard from Kitagawa that you once killed five hundred enemies by yourself and crawled out of a pile of dead bodies. Fortunately, my son was lucky and survived.”

Li Chang'an was stunned, then lowered his eyes. That time, she had actually died.

He just came back to life.

As a reward for successfully completing three missions, Li Chang'an left her three gifts when the system threw her into this world: the Nine-Tailed Fox's gift (two chances to revive), a martial arts manual, and the Jade Skin Pill.
