Chapter 60 Viewing the Scenery from the Secluded Courtyard

Li Chang'an suddenly felt that he was being too sensitive. Moreover, if this person really had a problem, he would not easily reveal his true colors. After thinking about it, he felt that Feng Beichuan's words and actions in front of him did not seem to be deliberate.

Deep down, Li Chang'an didn't want to doubt the people around her. Although she and Feng Beichuan were only in a cooperative relationship, she still felt that it was rare to have someone who truly cared for her. So she simply stopped overthinking and avoided worrying unnecessarily.

Feng Beichuan pursed his thin lips and remained silent. Although the two of them were now riding the same horse and very close, he still felt as if there were thousands of rivers and mountains separating them.

For some reason, an indescribable bitterness and pain suddenly welled up in my heart. At that moment, that blurry figure seemed to appear before my eyes again, graceful and deep in my heart.

Before anyone knew it, Feng Beichuan's somewhat unfocused pupils gradually began to shine brightly, and his belief in his heart became even stronger.

"Hey, is your villa facing east or west?"

In just a moment of distraction, the two had already ridden their horses to a fork in the road. Li Chang'an turned his head slightly and shouted to Feng Beichuan, which immediately brought his wandering thoughts back to reality.

"Go east for another two or three miles and you'll find it."

Feng Beichuan's voice was somewhat hoarse, seemingly carrying a hint of gloom.

Li Chang'an keenly sensed the unusual emotion in the person behind him, but he didn't ask any questions. He nodded slightly, pulled on the reins, and spurred his horse eastward.

Although it's still quite a distance to go, we've only traveled a short distance, and the scenery around us has already changed. Just moments ago, the surrounding area was a somewhat desolate suburb, but now the flowers, trees, and shrubs are gradually becoming lush and vibrant. We can vaguely see houses and courtyards in the distance, and even further away, there's a pavilion built on a small, man-made lake. It seems that all of this was arranged by Feng Beichuan.

"Whoa—"

With a tug on the reins, the horse stopped galloping. Li Chang'an nimbly dismounted, followed closely by Feng Beichuan.

The house in front of us is Feng Beichuan's villa. With its blue bricks, white walls, and green tiles, it doesn't look as luxurious and grand as a mansion from the outside, but it has a unique and elegant charm that matches the scenery of the suburbs.

At the entrance of the villa, several servants were sweeping with large brooms. Upon seeing the visitors, they immediately put down what they were doing and bowed slightly as a sign of respect. Although none of these family members said anything respectful, they all gave off a sense of humility.

Seeing this scene, Li Chang'an couldn't help but secretly admire it. She never liked listening to servants spout those high-sounding nonsense, as it was a waste of time and made her feel uncomfortable.

Just then, a steward-like man came out of the courtyard to greet them. As soon as he saw Feng Beichuan, he smiled broadly and said, "Your Highness has not been here for quite some time. I was thinking that the crabapple blossoms in the back were blooming so beautifully. It would be a pity if Your Highness did not come to see them."

This man looked to be in his fifties. He had a gentle and kind appearance, but his words and actions revealed wisdom and efficiency. It seemed that he was a shrewd and capable person to be working under Feng Beikan.

Moreover, Li Chang'an heard this person refer to himself as "I" in front of Feng Beichuan, so the two must have a good relationship.

"You're just like me, aren't you? Here we go."

Feng Beichuan smiled faintly, then patted the man's shoulder. The two didn't look like master and servant, but rather like a pair of friends despite their age difference.

"Your Highness has brought a guest with you today. May I ask who this guest is?"

Originally, Li Chang'an was quietly observing the two people from the side. When he saw that they asked about his identity, he paused and was about to reply.

"I forgot to introduce her. This is Princess Chang'an, the eldest legitimate princess of Shengnan."

Feng Beichuan took the initiative to introduce the woman beside him, and even made a point of mentioning Li Chang'an's status, which was a subtle way of giving her face.

"So it's Your Highness. Please forgive my poor eyesight for not recognizing you. I'm truly sorry."

Upon hearing Li Chang'an's identity, the man immediately composed himself, gave her a slight bow, and then said, "My name is Zhang Shen, and I am the steward here."

"You don't need to be so polite. I've only been back in the capital for a short time, so it's normal that I don't recognize you. Besides, you're managing such a large villa, so you naturally don't have time to worry about what's going on outside."

Li Chang'an smiled slightly and nodded to Zhang Shen. She couldn't help but feel a good impression of this housekeeper, because she always liked dealing with people who were tactful in their words and actions.

"We've been standing outside for ages, Chang'an. Let me take you inside for a walk, and then we'll go to the back to see the crabapple blossoms."

Feng Beichuan promptly interrupted Li Chang'an's conversation with Zhang Shen, and then affectionately called Li Chang'an by his name in front of so many people.

"Look how confused I am! How can we let our guests stand outside like this? You go ahead, and I'll have someone prepare some tea and snacks."

Zhang Shen glanced meaningfully at Feng Beichuan, then at Li Chang'an beside him, whose expression remained unchanged. He pondered the words his lord had just spoken, which seemed to carry a hint of sourness. He was secretly pleased and immediately understood the situation, so he decided not to disturb the two of them any longer.

"Thank you for your trouble, Uncle Shen."

Feng Beichuan nodded slightly in satisfaction. Zhang Shen waved to him with a smile on his face and then went into the courtyard first.

The courtyard here is very large, and it exudes a rustic and elegant atmosphere. Various flowers, plants and trees can be seen everywhere, and you can hear the chirping of insects and birds. Even the air is very fresh and pleasant.

Feng Beichuan led Li Chang'an on a brief tour, which took nearly half an hour. Finally, they stopped at a stone table and benches to rest for a while.

It was a rare moment of relaxation for Li Chang'an, and he felt quite pleased. He hadn't expected that Feng Beichuan, despite his constant pursuit of fame and fortune, would have such good taste.

"Please sit for a while. I'll go check on how the garden in the back is being prepared and I'll be right back."

Feng Beichuan stood up and said.

Li Chang'an nodded and let him go. He got up and wandered around. Then he saw several birdcages hanging on the roof beams in the distance. When he got closer, he saw that the doors of the birdcages were not closed, and there were several parrots standing in each cage.

The parrots were all different colors, each one was of excellent quality, and each had its own unique characteristics and was very beautiful.

Now, these little guys are all tilting their heads, looking at this creature they've never seen before, looking like a group of chubby-cheeked children.

Everything has a spirit, and Li Chang'an actually saw curiosity in the eyes of these parrots.
