Chapter 7 Humility

"Never mind."

Feng Beichuan slowly put down the oil-paper umbrella in his hand, watching the figure gradually disappear into the distance. Accompanied by the drizzling rain, the figure was aloof and cold, looking somewhat unreal.

I looked up at the gloomy sky, where light seemed to be shining through the edges of the shadows.

With his phoenix eyes slightly narrowed, Feng Beichuan gazed intently at the glimmer of light. Suddenly, the corners of his lips curved into a smile, a beautiful arc spreading across his face. His gaze seemed to be trying to pierce through the dark clouds, attempting to explore more. The obscured glimmer of light was the object of everyone's longing.

The woman on the horse seemed lost in thought. She rode straight ahead, not knowing where she was going or caring where the horse would take her. Her clothes were soaked by the rain, clinging to her body and making her look even thinner and more fragile. Yet, the woman's straight back exuded pride and unyielding spirit.

How could Li Chang'an be so easily defeated?

After learning the truth, her emotions shifted from shock to doubt, but after some simple consideration, she had to accept the facts. Although she found it hard to accept at first, she quickly calmed down.

How could a general who has fought countless battles have her psychological defenses collapse so easily? Her weaknesses had long been worn away on the battlefield.

In the cutthroat world of battle, swords have no eyes. Years of experience in countless battles have honed Li Chang'an's extraordinary composure. The father who once sat on the dragon throne now seems even more distant. The relationship between ruler and subject is paramount; they were originally ruler and subject, and familial affection always takes a backseat to power.

Why did Ke Feng Beichuan suddenly take the initiative to tell her about these past events?

Li Chang'an would never believe his ambiguous words. This man seemed simple but was actually very cunning. She couldn't figure him out at all. There were too many things about Feng Beichuan that were hard to understand. His methods were so sophisticated that they were beyond the reach of ordinary people. Otherwise, how could he have been able to turn the Regent's hand over and make things happen for so many years?

"Where did this audacious thief come from, daring to be so rude!"

A furious shout that pierced the air interrupted Li Chang'an's reverie. He looked up and couldn't help but sneer inwardly. He wondered whose daughter this was, swaggering around in such a way.

What a grand entourage!

Judging from the quality of this carriage, it was not something that an ordinary prominent family could afford. It was covered with brocade on all sides, and the gold-inlaid windows were covered by a light blue Tencel woven gold crepe curtain. Although the material was light and thin, no one outside the carriage could see the inside of the carriage. Moreover, even the most dazzling sunlight would be turned into soft light when it passed through.

Moreover, this silk fabric is extremely rare, with an annual production of only a few feet. Many noblewomen from wealthy and powerful families would go to great lengths and spend a fortune to obtain this fabric for clothing. Even if you have the money, you might not be able to buy it.

Li Chang'an has always disliked such extravagant and luxurious things, and she rarely rides in a sedan chair. She always goes about her own business, riding alone on horseback.

"I'm talking to you, are you looking for death?"

The man driving the carriage was dressed as a servant, but the Hetian jade pendant hanging from his waist was quite substantial. Judging from his arrogant demeanor, his master must be no ordinary person.

Unfortunately, this person encountered no ordinary person.

"Who are you, barking indiscriminately here?"

Li Chang'an raised an eyebrow, speaking slowly and deliberately, his words as elegant as orchids.

She sat high on her horse, looking down at the world like a deity, her face filled with indifference and her eyes hinting at coldness.

"Who are you calling a dog?"

The driver was stunned for a moment before he realized that he had been intimidated by the woman in front of him. Although she was dressed plainly, she exuded an aura that made people hesitant to approach her.

"In this way, it seems to have some self-awareness, and it appears to have developed some intelligence, enabling it to understand what is being said."

The man was rendered speechless by the rebuttal. He was so angry that he didn't know how to refute it. He could only point a trembling finger at Li Chang'an, but he couldn't utter a word. His pair of lewd triangular eyes widened at this moment, and his eyes were about to burst.

It's truly lamentable that a person's intelligence can be revealed the moment they open their mouth!

Li Chang'an couldn't help but shake his head and sigh inwardly, feeling a pang of regret. He had originally planned to have a small fight with this person to relieve some of his frustration, but it ended so quickly, which was really boring.

Thinking this, Li Chang'an became even less inclined to waste words with these people. He pulled on the reins, intending to leave, but was unexpectedly stopped by the people.

"You blind fool, how dare you talk back to the Prime Minister's daughter and walk away like that?"

The driver, having just suffered a setback, was naturally unwilling to back down. He seized any opportunity to retaliate, knowing he had powerful backers and that even when beating a dog, one should consider its owner.

The Prime Minister's daughter?

Li Chang'an pondered for a moment, and the image of that old fox who had devoted all his energy to verbal sparring in the main hall came to mind, which he found utterly despicable.

"Then what do you want?"

Li Chang'an thought to himself, "She even dares to hit the current Crown Prince, so who does a mere coachman like you think you are?"

Who is the Prime Minister's daughter? She doesn't know her at all!

That's enough.

A woman's voice came from inside the carriage. Although her emotions were unclear, her tone was quite pleasant, so it must be the woman in question.

The driver immediately shut up, glaring angrily at Li Chang'an as if he wanted to tear her to pieces, but Li Chang'an pretended not to see it.

The maid helped the woman out of the carriage. The woman walked gracefully to Li Chang'an, looked him up and down, and made no attempt to hide the disdain in her eyes.

The woman pursed her lips, her face becoming even more arrogant. "A-Si, you're too unruly. After all, you're a member of the Prime Minister's household; you can't lose your composure."

The implication was that Li Chang'an was being mocked for her lowly status, being inferior to a coachman, while simultaneously elevating her status as a member of the Prime Minister's household and making it seem as if she, a noble young lady, possessed great grace.
