Chapter 77 Rescue

The coachman and servant each grabbed Bai Yuanshan's arm, trying to pull him up, but the hole was just big enough to trap him in the middle, leaving him unable to go up or down.

What's worse, one of Bai Yuanshan's legs was bent and pressed against his chest, which made him even more trapped. Whenever the coachman and servant tried to pull him, his leg would be pressed against the chest and cause him unbearable pain, so they dared not use too much force.

The coachman was so anxious that his face turned pale. He scratched his head and didn't know what to do. The servant was scolding the passersby and telling them not to gather there, but no one paid any attention to him because he was a nobody.

"What should we do? Maybe I should go back to the manor and find some help?"

The servant went over to Bai Yuanshan, who was lying there like a dead dog, and asked the coachman for his opinion.

"No, how long will it take for you to come back? We can't let the master stay here forever!"

As the sun rose higher, more and more people appeared on the street. People passing by couldn't help but curiously crowd around to see what was going on. Some started pointing and discussing how the person got stuck, while others covered their mouths and chuckled smugly.

Bai Yuanshan was now in despair. He felt he needed to consult a fortune teller to see if he was experiencing bad luck and to see if there was any way to break the cycle.

"Hey, what's going on? Do you need help?"

Just as the coachman and his servant were at a loss, a man walked towards them.

The man, dressed in black with a kind smile on his face, looked at Bai Yuanshan, who was stuck, and his lips twitched slightly: "Tsk tsk tsk, we have to get this guy out of here quickly. He's too old to take this kind of ordeal."

"I wonder if this brave man has a way to rescue my master? I will be very grateful!"

Seeing that someone was willing to help, the driver was almost moved to tears. He bowed to the man as he spoke, hoping that the man could help them out of their predicament.

As a coachman, if anything happens to the people in the carriage, he would be the first to be held responsible. Moreover, the person he was carrying was the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. If anything were to happen to him, even ten lives wouldn't be enough to compensate for it.

"Well, there is a way..."

The man stroked his chin inscrutably, but a sly glint flashed in his eyes.

"What insightful opinion do you have, sir?"

The coachman's face lit up with joy, completely unaware that he had already stepped one foot into a pit of fire.

"Look, that seat is only collapsed in the middle, but the two sides are still intact. If you open up the whole thing, wouldn't a person be able to get out?"

The man pointed seriously into the carriage, thinking to himself, "How can these people be so stupid? They can't even think of such a simple solution."

After listening, the driver thought about it again and felt that the idea was feasible. Then, he suddenly had a flash of inspiration and scratched his head, wondering why he hadn't thought of this idea before. He guessed he had been too anxious to think straight.

"Then let's give it a try!"

As he spoke, he beckoned to the servant beside him, signaling him to come and lend a hand.

"I don't think this method will work..."

The servant looked somewhat embarrassed and said that he had actually thought of this method, but felt it was inappropriate so he didn't say it.

"What's wrong with it? I think it's fine!"

The driver was getting impatient.

"Look, if we make the hole bigger, people will just fall right in. What if they get hurt?"

That makes sense, and now the coachman is in a bit of a dilemma.

The two hesitated on one side, while Bai Yuanshan, on the other side, maintained that uncomfortable and strange posture while enduring the pointing and whispering of the people around him. In all his decades of life, this was the first time he had encountered such a distressing situation.

I wonder how long these useless people under my command will take to come up with a good way to get themselves out of here.

"You guys hurry up and decide. If you think my method won't work, then forget it. Look at this old man, he's sweating!"

The man, watching Bai Yuanshan's half-dead state, couldn't help but think to himself that these people were not only stupid but also unreliable.

It seems this Prime Minister's residence isn't all that great!

"Can you guys hurry up? My legs are numb!"

Bai Yuanshan's eyebrows were now furrowed, and fine beads of sweat on his forehead looked like they were about to drip down.

If it were based on his usual temperament, these people would probably have been thoroughly scolded by now.

The coachman and his servant discussed it again and finally improved the plan. They decided to first help Bai Yuanshan up and then remove the entire seat.

After a simple division of labor, the driver, being stronger and more robust, was responsible for protecting Bai Yuanshan's safety, while the servant helped the man remove the seat.

Without further ado, the two rolled up their sleeves and started removing the easy-to-remove planks. Then they began cleaning up the remaining planks, and the damaged area that was wedging Bai Yuanshan gradually grew larger.

At this moment, Bai Yuanshan's bent leg could move again, and his whole body was slowly sliding down. The driver was doing his best to support his upper body, and the people next to him were speeding up the dismantling of the wooden planks.

The onlookers held their breath; success was just one step away.

Ouch!

The man in black suddenly cried out, and then fell backward like a jack.

At the same time, he kicked the driver hard, and another scream was heard. The driver lost his balance and fell to the side.

Then came a crashing sound as half of the carriage collapsed, and Bai Yuanshan, losing his support, fell flat on his backside.

The three of them sat or lay on the ground, all groaning and moaning, leaving the servant standing there completely bewildered.

"Master, are you alright, Master?"

A moment later, the servant came to his senses and hurriedly ran towards Bai Yuanshan to help him up from the ground.

The fall was quite severe; Bai Yuanshan felt excruciating pain in his buttocks, and his lower back was also throbbing.

The numbness in his legs hadn't subsided, and he couldn't stand steadily at all, only able to support himself by leaning on the servant.

"Quickly, quickly, find a stretcher and a doctor to take a look!"

The coachman, ignoring his own pain, quickly got up from the ground and helped Bai Yuanshan up.

After being placed on the stretcher, the passersby were all outraged. Bai Yuanshan, who had been holding his anger for so long, finally found an opportunity to vent. He suddenly jumped up in the street and kicked the driver in the chest.

"You idiot! You can't even drive a carriage properly!"

Now his legs were no longer numb, and his back didn't hurt anymore.

The driver felt that he had been kicked for no reason. He was just driving the carriage as usual, so how could this have happened?

At this moment, people from the Prime Minister's residence also rushed over upon hearing the news, and without further ado, they were about to carry the stretcher to the nearest clinic.
