Misunderstanding resolved
The morning light shines through the light-colored curtains, illuminating the room hazily and softly.
Wen Lingyi woke up with a dull headache. The feeling of a hangover shrouded her brain like a veil, and her temples were beating dully.
She slowly opened her eyes and took a few seconds to take in her surroundings.
Outside the window, there is a tall, glossy magnolia tree, an ivory gauze curtain embroidered with white daisies, and a patch of peeling wall on the windowsill, revealing a round gray cement spot underneath.
Familiar wooden furniture, a few old posters on the wall, and neatly stacked books on the desk - this is Zhou Jianxing's bedroom.
She looked down at herself and saw that she was wearing champagne gold silk pajamas, which felt smooth and cool to the touch.
On the chair beside the bed, a set of clean clothes was neatly folded, obviously prepared specially for her.
She picked up the slightly loose cotton shirt and a pair of jeans that were obviously too long and slowly put them on.
The trouser legs are bunched up on the instep and really don't fit well.
She rubbed her still sleepy eyes, opened the bedroom door and walked out.
The aroma of breakfast wafted through the living room, where Zhou Jianjun, Zhou Shufen, and Zhou Jianxing were sitting around the dining table.
The warm morning light shines on the dining table, reflecting the cups, plates and bowls, which is everyday and cozy.
"Lingyi is awake?" Zhou Shufen saw her first, and immediately a kind smile appeared on her face, and she was about to stand up.
"Mom, please sit down, I'll do it." Zhou Jianxing moved faster, stood up first and walked towards the kitchen.
Zhou Shufen smiled and pulled out the chair next to her, waving to Wen Lingyi: "Come on, sit down and have some breakfast. You must be hungry, right?"
Zhou Jianxing quickly brought out steaming milk and perfectly fried eggs from the kitchen, and placed a plate of freshly washed and cut fruit on the table.
The colors are colorful and make people hungry just by looking at them.
"We drank so much last night," Zhou Jianxing muttered as he sat down beside her. "We need to replenish protein and vitamins today."
She pushed the milk in front of Wen Lingyi.
Wen Lingyi smiled a little sheepishly. Her memory of the second half of last night's dinner was indeed hazy, like a layer of fog.
She was drunk and had no memory of how she got back here or what happened next.
Breakfast took place in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, a rather ordinary affair. Zhou Jianjun and Zhou Shufen occasionally chatted about family matters, mostly about the weather and what vegetables they were going to buy later.
Wen Lingyi ate quietly, feeling the simple warmth of a family morning.
After breakfast, Zhou Jianjun and Zhou Shufen packed up and prepared to go out to buy groceries.
Before leaving, Zhou Shufen specifically told Zhou Jianxing to take good care of Wen Lingyi and give her some honey water to help her sober up.
The door closed gently, and the room suddenly became quiet, with only the two of them left.
·
After cleaning up the dishes, Wen Lingyi followed Zhou Jianxing back to the bedroom.
She sat on the edge of the bed, looked down at the overly long legs of her jeans, and tried to pull them up a little to reveal her slender ankles.
But the rolled-up trouser legs were wrinkled and piled on the calves, which was not very beautiful.
"Why are your pants so long?" she said as she lowered her trouser legs.
"You vomited on your clothes yesterday," Zhou Jianxing explained, "My mom washed them for you last night and they're hanging on the balcony and they're still not dry."
"You can wear mine for now, even though it doesn't fit you well."
Returning to the bedroom, there seemed to be a very faint smell of alcohol and the familiar clean smell of Zhou Jianxing in the air.
Wen Lingyi's mood was not as calm as it seemed. A knot that had been buried for a long time, like a tiny thorn, had been stuck in a corner of her heart.
She unconsciously grasped the soft bedding beneath her, her gaze drifting towards the drawer of the desk, her eyes somewhat wandering.
"Zhou Jianxing," she finally spoke, her tone somewhat downcast, "Actually... there was another reason why I broke up with you so suddenly."
"Huh?" Zhou Jianxing was about to tidy up his desk when he was visibly stunned by what he heard. He turned around with a confused look on his face. "Any other reason?"
The words came to my lips, but became difficult to say.
Wen Lingyi curled up her fingers.
She was afraid of hearing the answer she didn't want to hear, and she was also afraid that even if she heard the answer she wanted to hear, it would be just a lie made up by the other party to appease her.
This uncertainty made her hesitate.
Zhou Jianxing noticed her unusual silence and struggling expression.
She walked up to Wen Lingyi, slowly squatted down, looked up at her, and then gently rested her chin on Wen Lingyi's knees.
"Lingyi," Zhou Jianxing said softly, his eyes fixed on Wen Lingyi's downcast eyes. "Shouldn't we trust each other now? No matter what you want to say, or any misunderstandings you may have had, it doesn't matter."
"If you tell me, I won't be angry or blame you."
Wen Lingyi looked at the pair of eyes on her knees that were so clear that they could almost reflect her own shadow, took a deep breath, and finally mustered up the courage.
"That day... the day you left without saying goodbye." She vividly recalled the afternoon that had caused her to flee in a panic, every detail seemingly etched in her mind. "Because, I accidentally opened that drawer of yours."
Her eyes glanced towards the desk again.
"I saw a box of condoms inside." She paused, feeling her throat dry. "It was an opened and used box. I... I couldn't help but count the number of condoms inside."
She raised her eyes and met Zhou Jianxing's surprised look: "Two are missing."
So...it was because of this?
Zhou Jianxing pursed his lips and did not explain immediately. Instead, he stood up, walked to the desk, and opened the drawer without hesitation.
She rummaged through it and quickly took out the box of condoms that was exactly the same as the one Wen Lingyi remembered. Then she walked back and handed it directly to Wen Lingyi.
"Count it again." Zhou Jianxing's voice was calm.
Wen Lingyi looked at the familiar box, hesitated for a moment, and finally took it.
She opened the box and poured the individually wrapped condoms out onto the bed sheet, carefully counting them one by one.
There are still two missing.
"Lingyi," Zhou Jianxing said patiently, "This box of condoms was actually given to me by my parents. It was the day after our first time..."
"At that time... they didn't know you were a girl."
She looked at Wen Lingyi's slightly widened eyes and continued to explain, "As for the two missing ones," she touched her nose a little embarrassedly, "it was because once before, the water pipe outside our balcony suddenly burst, and water sprayed everywhere."
"The situation was extremely urgent and we couldn't find the right tools and materials for repairs."
"I had an idea. I took two of these," she pointed to the box of condoms, "cut off the pointed end, and put them over the cracked pipe. Then I tied it tightly with a cable tie."
"It works really well and really stopped the water from flowing. Otherwise, the wooden floor at home would have been damaged."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Wen Lingyi's still somewhat dazed expression and added, "If you don't believe me, when my mom comes back from buying groceries, you can ask her in person if this is true."
"She even praised me for being smart..."
So, that's exactly what happened. All the coincidences came together.
These are all ridiculous plots she made up in her own mind.
Looking at Zhou Jianxing's extremely honest eyes, Wen Lingyi didn't know how to react for a moment and looked away briefly.
A complex emotion slowly surged into my heart, blocking my chest, making me feel a little sour and swollen.
Suddenly, I felt a sadness that was as dense and pervasive as a lingering rain.
She couldn't explain why she was sad.
After a moment, Wen Lingyi reached out her hand, her fingertips trembling slightly, and gently tucked a strand of long hair that was scattered on Zhou Jianxing's cheek behind her ear.
"I'm sorry," her voice was a little hoarse, "I'm just... I'm just so insecure."
"I don't blame you." Zhou Jianxing took the hand she extended, his warm palm tightly wrapped around her slightly cold fingertips. "If I had experienced what you've experienced, and met someone like that, I might... I would be even more insecure than you are now."
"I want to say," she paused, lowered her head and gently kissed Wen Lingyi's knee through her jeans, "Lingyi, I am yours. I will only be yours."
Then he raised his head again and looked straight into the depths of Wen Lingyi's eyes.
"I will never do anything to betray you." When she said this, her eyes were clear and transparent without any flickering.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves and cast swaying fragments of light into her eyes. The light amber pond was full of seriousness and determination.
"I will make you feel safe." She held Wen Lingyi's hand tightly.
Wen Lingyi looked at Zhou Jianxing in front of her, and the corner of her heart that had been frozen for a long time seemed to be finally completely illuminated and melted by the warm sunshine.
She raised her other hand, gently placed it on Zhou Jianxing's soft head, and ran her fingertips through the fine hair.
"I believe you." Wen Lingyi showed a relieved and gentle smile, and the last trace of haze in her eyes quietly dissipated.
It’s not that I can’t accept the natural demise of feelings, it’s just that I can’t accept deception and betrayal.
·
Because Wen Lingyi stayed for lunch, Zhou Shufen enthusiastically prepared a large table of dishes, which were so sumptuous that it almost felt like a holiday.
Wen Lingyi looked at the table full of delicious dishes and finally understood where Zhou Jianxing inherited his excellent cooking skills from.
Therefore, Zhou Jianxing was able to maintain that figure before, and he must have been very active every day.
After eating and drinking, the early summer afternoon sun shines through the window, and the silence all around makes people drowsy.
Wen Lingyi felt sleepy again, and she naturally lay down on Zhou Jianxing's not-so-spacious little bed, ready to take a nap.
Before going to bed, she habitually took out her mobile phone and started checking her Moments.
As soon as she refreshed her screen, a familiar photo jumped into her eyes.
It was sent by Zhou Jianxing.
The release time is shown as last night.
The photo is a close-up of her and Zhou Jianxing holding hands tightly, with their hands intimately folded together.
The uniquely designed ring on her ring finger is particularly eye-catching in the photo, shining with a low-key and firm light.
This photo should have been carefully cropped from the group photo Chu Wei took last night.
The caption was simple: "Yes, I have a girlfriend"
Be open and honest, without any concealment or hesitation.
The comment section should be very lively. She saw Zhou Jianxing patiently replying to each message, most of which were words like "Thank you for the blessings" and "You will have it too".
There were dozens or even hundreds of replies.
As Wen Lingyi watched, the corners of her mouth unconsciously rose.
It turns out that Zhou Jianxing is so popular.
But this is not surprising.
Wen Lingyi thought that anyone who had truly come into contact with and understood Zhou Jianxing would find it difficult not to be attracted to her and fall in love with her.
I like her sincerity and frankness, her enthusiasm and courage, and her kindness and warmth that comes from the heart.
So, how can we not tell the difference between love and not love, sincerity and insincerity?
When she was with Zhu Yang, there was never any trace of her in Zhu Yang's circle of friends, let alone someone like Zhou Jianxing.
Solemnly announce her existence to her social circle.
Public or private, does it matter?
Very important.
This is an attitude, a determination to include the other person in your entire life.
"Zhou Jianxing," she turned off her phone screen, "stop reading and come to bed with me for a while."
Zhou Jianxing was sitting at his desk, concentrating on reading a thick professional textbook that he had received during his intensive study in City B.
She missed the last course because she was in the hospital and had to cram at home.
After hearing Wen Lingyi's words, Zhou Jianxing immediately put down the book, obediently took off his outer clothes, wearing only his underwear, and then nimbly snuggled into the quilt.
The quilt was already warm from Wen Lingyi's sleep, and was filled with her faint fragrance.
Zhou Jianxing's arms naturally wrapped around Wen Lingyi's waist and pulled her into his arms.
"What's wrong?" she asked softly, while carefully gathering Wen Lingyi's long hair scattered on the pillow and moving it to the other side to avoid accidentally pressing on her and hurting her.
The movements are delicate and gentle.
"Nothing," Wen Lingyi leaned back, embedding herself more tightly in Zhou Jianxing's arms, then clasped the hand on her lower abdomen, intertwining their fingers, "I just suddenly want you to hug me."
I could feel Zhou Jianxing's steady and warm breathing behind my neck, and with my back pressed against her chest, I could hear the clear and steady heartbeat coming from her chest.
Under the palm of her hand was the slightly higher temperature of the skin on the back of her hand and the slightly raised blood vessels.
It all felt so real, so reassuring.
Wen Lingyi closed her eyes and relaxed completely.
Zhou Jianxing put a little more force on his arms around her waist and brought her closer to him, pressing his body closer to hers, almost fitting her perfectly.
"That's it," Wen Lingyi sighed softly in her arms, her voice almost inaudible, "Just hold me tightly like this."
Sleepiness came over me again, like waves rising and falling in the breeze.
Neither of them spoke anymore, they just snuggled together, their breathing gradually became synchronized and long, and they fell into a peaceful nap together.
The sunlight quietly shone on them, and the only sound in the room was the sound of time slowly flowing.
