Chapter 43 You stay here.

Chapter 43 You stay here.

As darkness fell, Gao Wen's voice abruptly stopped.

Her body stiffened, and her throat tightened.

Gao Wen felt extremely insecure in the dark. Just as she was about to be overwhelmed by various emotions, Fang Han turned on his phone's flashlight, and the surroundings suddenly became much brighter.

He was sitting opposite her, but he pulled up a chair and sat down next to her, saying, "It's probably a power outage. The power should be back on in a while."

Gao Wen looked at him, but didn't say anything, her neck unconsciously shrinking back.

"Where were we?" Fang Han asked Gao Wen.

Fang Han's voice pulled Gao Wen out of her vortex of thoughts. His voice was gentle and reassuring to her.

"Were you frightened?" Fang Han asked again with concern.

He discovered that her mood would be very off whenever it got dark; it was like that time when the light bulb broke, and it was like that in the office as well.

"A little." Gao Wen looked at Fang Han, who was so close to her, her rapid breathing gradually returned to normal, and her voice was very soft.

"Have some water to calm down." Fang Han picked up a water glass from the side and placed it in her hand.

Gao Wen held the water glass in both hands and kept drinking.

“It’s been raining for so long lately, there’s probably a problem with the electricity somewhere. Someone should be coming to check it soon,” Fang Han said. “Let’s wait a bit, maybe the power will be back on soon.”

"Mm." Gao Wen nodded.

Fang Han placed her phone on the shelf next to her and asked Gao Wen to turn on the light for her phone as well, illuminating most of the living room.

He took the documents and began to peruse them.

Inside the living room, Fang Han's clear and mellow voice kept ringing in Gao Wen's ears. She couldn't help but lean closer to him. Holding a water glass, she looked at the documents in front of him and occasionally chimed in with a word or two.

The light from the phone shone softly on the two of them.

After waiting for a long time, the living room lights still didn't turn on, and my phone battery was running low.

Fang Han made a phone call.

He has a friend who works at the power supply station, so he can still get some information.

The living room was quiet, but Gao Wen could still hear the voices coming from the other end of the phone, and her heart skipped a beat again.

Currently, the road is under repair, and there will be no electricity tonight.

How will she survive without electricity?

It was so dark inside, she couldn't go on like that, she was scared.

Gao Wen was filled with fear and confusion when Fang Han hung up the phone and said to her, "It looks like there's no electricity tonight, and we don't even know if there will be any tomorrow. Even washing up will be a problem. Everything around here is out of power, but the hotel has an engine, so it should have electricity. How about we stay at the hotel and come back tomorrow?"

"Okay." Gao Wen agreed without any hesitation.

Fang Han thought of a problem: "We're on the 22nd floor, it'll take a while to go down."

"I don't want to stay at home, it's too dark." Gao Wen shook her head frantically, her voice trembling with anxiety. She looked at Fang Han, "I don't want to spend the night here, I can't."

“Let’s go to the hotel now,” Fang Han said. “I’m afraid it’ll be too late and all the nearby hotels will be booked.”

"I'll go pack my things right away."

She stood up, took her phone, and went into the room, using the light to illuminate her way.

The brightness of one phone light was still not enough. As soon as Gao Wen walked in, Fang Han also walked in with his phone light on.

Gao Wen's wildly beating heart calmed down immediately. She quickly grabbed a change of clothes, packed what she needed, and went outside.

Fang Han's luggage was even simpler; he just carried a backpack and his laptop.

As soon as the two opened the door, a cool breeze mixed with rain blew in.

A strong wind was howling outside.

They stayed indoors, with the doors and windows closed and locked, unaware that the wind was howling outside.

Fortunately, the rain has stopped for now.

The power went out, so the elevator stopped working, and we had to take the stairs down.

The stairwell was even darker. Gao Wen stood at the entrance of the stairwell, looking down at the pitch-black ground below. She took a step back, her expression uneasy and somewhat resistant.

"You go first, I'll follow behind. Watch your step carefully." Fang Han's voice echoed in the stairwell.

Gao Wen nodded and took a deep breath: "Okay."

"Walk slowly," Fang Han reminded him again.

"Um."

Gao Wen walked ahead, illuminating the way, while Fang Han followed behind her. As she walked slower, he would walk right up to her.

After going down a few floors, Fang Han suddenly said, "Let's play a song? To give us some courage."

As he spoke, he played "The Song of a Strong Army."

A powerful and inspiring melody rang out: "Listen, the bugle call of the new journey sounds, the goal of a strong military beckons ahead, the nation must be strong—"

Every military training session involves singing countless songs.

The lyrics are practically etched into my DNA.

So red it's almost purple, so righteous it's almost sinister.

The last vestiges of unease in Gao Wen's heart were instantly washed away.

Fang Han probably thought she was afraid of some kind of evil spirit.

This song is absolutely capable of suppressing evil.

Gao Wen did feel much more relaxed because of this song. When she went downstairs, she even hummed it softly and her steps became more energetic.

She walked too fast, and Fang Han quickly reminded her, "Slow down, don't rush."

"knew."

......

The two finally made it to the first floor, but before they could even rest, they saw people leaving one after another.

Everyone thought of going to a hotel.

Upon seeing this, Gao Wen, disregarding her need for rest, grabbed Fang Han's sleeve and pulled him quickly outside.

If there were no hotels left, climbing to the 22nd floor would be the death of her.

The rain outside has stopped.

As Fang Han walked, he glanced at his phone and said, "Let me check out some nearby hotels and book them online first."

“Yes, reserve it first.” Gao Wen nodded.

Fang Han looked around and found that quite a few hotels nearby were booked. He saw that the nearest one only had one room left, so he quickly booked it.

When he returned and tried to find another hotel, all the others were fully booked.

"What's wrong? Are there no hotels left?" Gao Wen visibly panicked.

"I booked a room, but it's sold out online. I'll go check it out first; there might still be some available offline." Fang Han put away his phone and looked at the sky. "Let's go to the hotel first. It's windy right now; it'll be a real hassle if it rains."

You won't be able to use an umbrella then.

Gao Wen hurried forward, urging Fang Han on.

There were small groups of people on the road, because the residents had sent out a notice saying there would be no electricity tonight, and they were also fleeing the disaster.

A group of people walked to the entrance of the residential area and were immediately dumbfounded.

The entrance to the residential area was flooded.

The water was flowing very fast, up to knee-deep, and several cars were submerged in the middle of the road, their hazard lights flashing.

Despite the power outage, cell phone lights and flashlights illuminated the area, and there was a lot of noise.

Gao Wen and Fang Han stood by the water. In front of them was a couple. The man squatted down and said, "Baby, let me carry you across. I'm afraid you'll get your feet dirty."

The girl was deeply moved, and said in a sweet voice, "Honey, you're so good to me~~~"

Gao Wen: "..."

"I have to be good to you, you're my darling." The boy could easily utter sweet words.

Gao Wen got goosebumps. Just when she thought it was all good and was about to congratulate them, the man, carrying the woman on his back, had only taken a few steps when he stumbled and fell forward, both of them tumbling into the water.

Gao Wen couldn't bear to look directly at him, so she turned her head to look at Fang Han.

He looked at her too, and the silence was deafening.

It's pretty tragic.

Gao Wen rolled up her pants and took off her shoes, preparing to walk over.

Fang Han got into the water first. He hesitated for a moment, then reached out his hand to her: "Let me hold your hand, the path is a bit difficult to walk on."

Gao Wen thought about what had happened to that couple. If she had fallen in such dirty water, just thinking about it made her scalp tingle. She probably wouldn't even want to live anymore.

She didn't hesitate for long. Looking at Fang Han's large hand, she stretched out her slender hand and placed it in his palm.

Fang Han turned around and gripped Gao Wen's hand tightly: "Be careful."

"Um."

Gao Wen slowly walked into the water. The current was very strong, and she felt resistance as soon as she entered. She tried her best to move closer to Fang Han, wanting to get closer and closer to him.

"Just walk there, the hotel isn't far away," Fang Han said, leading her forward little by little.

Every now and then someone would exclaim in surprise, making Gao Wen feel uneasy. She grabbed Fang Han's arm with her other hand, pressing her whole body against him.

"It's okay, we'll be there soon."

"Um."

"Aren't we there yet?"

"Soon."

"Is there anything in the water that might bite? I'm a little scared."

"Won't."

......

Fang Han was initially holding Gao Wen's hand, but halfway there, the two unknowingly ended up holding hands.

Gao Wen was completely unaware of what was happening; instead, she broke out in a cold sweat because she watched as a little girl in front of her slipped, her phone flew out of her hand, and crashed with a loud thud.

Fang Han held her hand tighter, his warm palm enveloping her slightly cool hand, the warmth gradually transferring to her.

The road wasn't long, and if it weren't a bit difficult to walk, Fang Han would have wished time would slow down.

He could just sense Gao Wen's complete dependence on him.

Once ashore, Fang Han immediately let go of Gao Wen's hand before she noticed.

He put his hands in his pockets, his fingers slightly curled, trying to retain as much of her warmth as possible.

The two arrived at the hotel, which was brightly lit. Gao Wen breathed a sigh of relief and quickly tidied herself up.

Great beauties all care about their image.

However, the hotel lobby was filled with people who had "fled" there, and many of them had gotten soaked when the rain had just stopped.

Fang Han went to the front desk to inquire about available rooms.

The receptionist apologized, "I'm sorry, there are no rooms available if you didn't book online."

Fang Han turned on his phone: "We've booked a room, let's open one first."

Receptionist: "Okay, please show me your ID card."

Fang Han took Gao Wen's.

After checking into the room, the two headed towards the elevator. Fang Han said, "I'll go up with you to see the room first. If you like it, you can stay here, and I'll look at other hotels."

Gao Wen nodded.

This is a deluxe king room, which is quite expensive, so it remained unbooked until the end, which is quite good.

Gao Wen couldn't find any fault with it.

"Then you should rest first," Fang Han said as he walked out.

"Fang Han," Gao Wen called his name.

Fang Han was also taken aback. He turned around and looked back, still not quite used to her calling his name.

Gao Wen pointed out the window: "It's raining heavily outside."

"It's okay, I have an umbrella," Fang Han said with a smile.

Gao Wen: "I just checked, and there are no hotel rooms available nearby."

"I'm fine with going back."

"You stay here," Gao Wen blurted out.
