Although He Dongchuan wanted to have some fun, he was staying in a guesthouse after all, so he didn't dare to make too much noise. Moreover, he got up before dawn the next day to finish his work. He first washed the sheets under his mattress and then destroyed the covers in the trash can.
These were all specifically instructed by Su Ting before going to bed last night. The staff in the guesthouse here are all military wives, and she doesn't want to face social death before even moving into the Navy compound.
After finishing his work, He Dongchuan went out, running and getting familiar with the environment at the same time. This is his personal habit. After arriving at a new place, he always makes sure to familiarize himself with the environment as soon as possible.
I met several military officers on the way, all of whom were going to the camp. One of them was quite talkative, and since we happened to be going the same route, we exchanged names and chatted for a while.
In fact, it was mainly He Dongchuan who asked the questions and the other party who answered them.
The other party knew that he was a newly transferred officer, and they would all be comrades in the future, so they could be expected to answer all his questions.
However, because the opponent was from the navy force and had limited understanding of the newly formed land forces, the information He Dongchuan obtained was also limited.
But he is not greedy. When it comes to work, just take your time and there is no need to rush.
They ran to a three-way intersection. The other party continued to go to the military camp, while He Dongchuan turned right. Following this road, he could return to the family area. He did not plan to report to the military camp so early.
Anyway, the deadline is the day after tomorrow, so as long as he reports before then, there is no rush.
But we can't be too careless, because this is related to a series of issues such as housing allocation, family settlement, and children's schooling. If the report is late, these things will have to be postponed.
So He Dongchuan planned to go there at noon or in the afternoon to finish the work as soon as possible and rush to get the house allocated. After getting the key to the new house and packing it up, the luggage they packed and sent should arrive.
He Dongchuan was thinking in his mind when he came to another fork in the road. This time he turned right, and the family area was at the end of the road.
I rushed back to the guesthouse before seven o'clock. Su Ting was already up. Seeing that the trash can was clean and the bed towels were washed clean and hung on the balcony in the living room to flutter in the wind, she was very satisfied and gave him a smile when he pushed the door open.
He Dongchuan also laughed: "Are you in a good mood?"
"It's okay." Su Ting thought to herself that you performed well.
But these words could not be said out loud, otherwise if He Dongchuan knew about it, he would definitely become even more arrogant and complacent, and would demand even more benefits.
She wants to sleep tonight, just sleep!
"That's very good." He Dongchuan knew his daughter-in-law very well. He walked beside the sofa and bent down to kiss her.
Before the kiss ended, Su Ting asked, "Did you go jogging?"
"Did you see that?"
Su Ting smiled and said, "I smelled it and was sweating all over."
He Dongchuan understood, stood up and said, "I'm going to take a shower, you wake up the children and have breakfast later."
"Wash now?" Su Ting asked.
The suites in the guesthouse at the Shanghai base all have their own bathroom, and hot water is supplied in the bathroom every day, but there are time restrictions.
It was morning, not the hot water supply period, but He Dongchuan was in good health and resistant to cold, so he didn't care. He went into the house to pack his clothes and said, "It's okay, I'll take a shower and be out soon."
"Be careful not to catch a cold." The winter in Shanghai is much colder than that in Pingchuan Island.
He Dongchuan waved his hands and said, "Don't worry, you won't catch a cold." Then he went into the bathroom.
After a while, the sound of water came from the bathroom. Su Ting knew that He Dongchuan had turned on the shower head. She got up, walked to the door of the second bedroom, and pushed it open.
The bed in the second bedroom was also quite big, and the brother and sister slept in it, one at the head of the bed and the other at the bedside, leaning back and forth. Fortunately, the quilt in the guesthouse was very thick, and both of them were pressed firmly and slept very warmly.
Because of this, the two children didn't want to get up. He Yan was okay, he just burrowed into the quilt and pretended to be an ostrich. Gradually his temper got worse, and he was very unhappy when he was woken up, and he started crying at the top of his lungs.
As soon as she cried, He Yan couldn't sleep at all. He pulled down the quilt and stared blankly.
Su Ting ignored her tears and dressed her forcefully. After noticing that He Yan had woken up, she said, "Hurry up and get dressed. It's time for breakfast."
He Yan didn't answer, but turned his head and asked, "What time is it?"
"It's almost half past seven." Su Ting moved the time forward.
He Yan said "oh" and turned to look at the window. The light reflected on the curtains was not very bright. He asked, "Why is it so dark outside?"
"It's cloudy."
"Is it cold outside?"
"It's cold. Put on all the clothes you found."
He Yan turned his head and looked at the shelf at the end of the bed. There were one, two, three, four, and five pieces of clothing on it, including a wool vest, a sweater, a coat with a layer of velvet, woolen pants, and trousers.
He Yan suspected that his mother had found all his winter clothes, and said stiffly, "Isn't this too much?"
"If you still want to drink ginger soup, you can wear one less piece of clothing."
Although they put on more clothes once during the train journey, there were many people on the train and the windows were not open, so the temperature was much lower than outside.
Su Ting and He Dongchuan were fine, as they were adults and knew that Shanghai was cold in winter, so they wrapped themselves up very warmly. But gradually, she had no choice in what to wear, and she had to wear whatever her mother wanted her to wear.
Only He Yan, who was too vain to wear woolen trousers or a woolen vest, wore a thin sweater and a thin coat. To show that he was not cold, he walked back and forth in the carriage twice, and then came to Su Ting to show him his head: "I am sweating."
Su Ting watched carefully for half a minute, but did not see any sweat on He Yan's head. However, he wanted to show off, and she had no choice but to let him do it.
After getting off the train, He Yan began to shiver as the northwest wind blew. However, he was too proud to save face. When Su Ting asked him if he was cold, he gritted his teeth and said, "No, I'm not cold at all."
As a result, not long after checking into the base guesthouse yesterday evening, He Yan started sneezing.
Fortunately, the wife of a soldier who worked in the guesthouse was a nice person. Knowing that a child of theirs was frozen, she went to the kitchen and told the chef, who lighted up an unclosed coal stove for them and lent them a pot, ginger and garlic.
The ginger soup was very effective. After two bowls, He Yan was as calm as ever today. He even began to forget the pain as his wounds healed and wanted to be graceful rather than warm.
Thinking of ginger soup, He Yan's face wrinkled. That stuff was really unpalatable and he never wanted to drink it again in his life.
So after weighing the pros and cons, He Yan decided to listen to his mother and put on the sweater, woolen pants and woolen vest.
The process of putting on clothes is very difficult. Unlike the capital, Shanghai has not installed heating in the main urban area since the 1960s and 1970s. In this area that is neither north nor south, people have to rely on shivering to keep warm.
So in Shanghai in winter, the temperature inside is basically the same as the temperature outside. At most, the house will not freeze because there are people around.
He Yan's clothes had been hanging at the end of the bed for the whole night, and they felt cold to the touch, but he had just come out of the quilt, and his body was warm. The autumn clothes and trousers he was wearing were very thin and not very useful, so every time he put on a piece of clothing, he would make a "hissing" sound, and he would not stop until he put on his sweater and trousers.
After putting on all his clothes, He Yan felt himself and said, "I am still not as warm as I am lying in bed even with so many clothes on."
As they were talking, Su Ting had already dressed him up. The little girl stopped crying and echoed her brother, saying, "It's so comfortable."
"No matter how warm and comfortable the quilt is, can you really lie in it all day long?" Su Ting asked as she slowly put on her little leather shoes.
"If you don't beat me, Dad and Mom, I can stay in bed all the time." He Yan was also putting on his shoes.
Su Ting was amused: "You also know that doing this is very annoying?"
He Yan sighed: "But it's very comfortable."
"No matter how comfortable it is, it's useless," Su Ting said as she slowly put her shoes on the ground, "Hurry up and brush your teeth and wash your face."
The brother and sister sighed in unison and walked out with their heads hung.
When he went out, He Dongchuan had just finished taking a shower. His body was still wet and his hair was half dry. Su Ting frowned when she saw him: "Did you wash your hair?"
"No, I just wiped it with a wet towel."
"Don't do this again. It's easy to get headaches when you get old." Su Ting said, and went into the house to get a dry towel. She came out and handed it to He Dongchuan and said, "Hurry up and dry your hair."
"Yes, sir!" He Dongchuan saluted and took the towel with a smile.
In the bathroom, He Yan turned on the faucet and ran water for a long time, but no steam came out of the basin. He reached out to check the water temperature and found it was icy cold. He walked out and asked in confusion, "Mom, why is there no hot water?"
Su Ting said: "There was no hot water in the morning."
He Yan pointed at his father and asked, "Then how does Dad take a bath?"
"Wash with cold water."
He Yan opened his mouth wide: "Take a cold shower now?" He shivered when he put his hand into the basin just now.
"Your father is resistant to freezing and is not afraid of the cold," Su Ting glanced at He Dongchuan's head, "He even washes his hair with cold water."
He Dongchuan explained again: "I just wiped it with a wet towel."
“That’s cold, too.”
He Dongchuan said helplessly: "I'm just afraid that the smell of sweat on my head will make you dislike it."
Su Ting sneered: "If I were really that picky, I would have locked you out every time you went home like a savage after a mission or field training!"
She pays great attention to the personal hygiene of her family, but this is not because she is a germaphobe, but for the sake of everyone's health.
In special circumstances, she would also give special treatment, like this morning, even if He Dongchuan didn't take a shower she wouldn't say anything, but he insisted on taking a cold shower once in a while, and she thought it was okay, so she let him do it.
As a result, he even wiped his hair with a wet towel soaked in cold water, not taking his body seriously at all!
Seeing that she was really angry, He Dongchuan hurriedly walked to Su Ting and Shen Bin, put his arm around her shoulders and admitted his fault: "I was wrong. I misjudged you by judging you by my own meanness. I also didn't take good care of myself. I forgot that you still care about me. How does the saying go? The pain in my body is in your heart..."
Su Ting was amused by his joke: "If you don't know how to use colloquialisms, don't use them. Do you think it's appropriate to judge a gentleman by one's own meanness? Also, I don't feel sorry for you, but I feel hurt when you feel hurt for me. You wish!"
"I had a nice thought," He Dongchuan admitted. "As for proverbs, it's enough if the meaning is clear."
Su Ting really laughed this time, and followed his words and said, "Yes, this is a very appropriate description of you."
He Dongchuan was not angry either, he raised his eyebrows and asked, "Which one is suitable?"
“It fits anywhere.”
He Dongchuan laughed when he heard this, and lowered his voice and said, "I can't say whether other places are suitable or not, but there is one place that is definitely not suitable."
"Where?"
He Dongchuan didn't answer, but just looked down.
Su Ting followed his gaze down to the area three inches below his groin. Her cheeks instantly became hot. She stood up and said, "I'm too lazy to talk nonsense with you. I'll go brush Man Man's teeth."
Looking at her fleeing figure, He Dongchuan smiled and leaned on the sofa, saying ruthlessly: "What do you mean by nonsense? If you have any objections, I don't mind talking to you again tonight."
Su Ting closed the bathroom door and was too lazy to pay attention to him.
But the two children were very curious, and He Yan asked first, "Mom, what were you talking about with Dad just now? Why don't I understand?"
Su Ting thought it was normal that you didn't understand, and said calmly, "Nothing, just some meaningless words."
"What do you mean by lack of nutrition?" He Yan asked again.
Su Ting thought for a moment and said, "It's just... meaningless, just chatting nonsense, there's no need for you kids to ask."
Hearing this, He Yan went over their words in his mind again, and then agreed with Su Ting's statement. It seemed that those words really did not make any sense.
…
The family compound at the Shanghai base also has a canteen, which is quite large, with two floors. There are thirty to forty long tables on each floor, and there are six windows for serving food.
When they arrived, there weren't many people queuing at the window, but the first floor was almost full. And it was already 7:30, which was not exactly lunchtime, so it was obvious that the cafeteria had quite a lot of customers.
When lining up, Su Ting asked in a low voice: "How many people are there in this base?"
"Ten or twenty thousand people."
Although He Dongchuan's data was very vague, Su Ting would think about it. If the number was only over 10,000, the answer he gave should be around 10,000. He said that the number should be over 15,000, but just less than 20,000.
Su Ting muttered, "There are so many people. No wonder the family compound is so big."
There are only two units in the family compound on Pingchuan Island: the Military Family Resettlement Office and the Women's Federation. Other units such as the canteen, vegetable market, supply and marketing cooperative, etc. are all located on the street outside.
The Shanghai base family compound is different. All units are inside the compound, so although there is no clear division of functional areas, the area near the gate is basically a commercial area, and the living area is inside after the basketball court.
Although the guesthouse is next to the gate and a bit far from the living area, you can see the houses inside from here. They are basically three-story buildings, and there are quite a few of them. There are also single-family houses, but not many. I guess they are allocated to the leaders to live in.
Therefore, although they only arrived yesterday evening and were busy eating and washing up after checking into the guesthouse, and did not go out for a walk, but just by looking at the number of buildings, they knew that this family compound was not small.
He Dongchuan said: "This is a base with a full-scale military structure."
The navy has three major fleets, each fleet has three major bases under it, and the bases are under the jurisdiction of the maritime police district, so the base organization is usually higher than the maritime police district and has more personnel.
Su Ting nodded to show that she understood.
Maybe because the cafeteria is bigger, the breakfast provided is richer. There are steamed buns, which are divided into big buns and small long buns. Small long buns are divided into steamed and fried ones, and there are many ways to eat them. In addition, there are also fried dough sticks, big pancakes, rice cakes, foot wraps, etc.
The main drinks are soy milk and tofu pudding. Tofu pudding is divided into sweet and salty. The sweet one is made with sugar, while the salty one can contain a variety of ingredients, such as shrimp skin, pickled mustard tubers, and broken fried dough sticks. You can put anything in it.
There are also soup noodles. The soup base is clear and you can add various fried sauces.
Looking at the rich breakfast placed in the window, Su Ting couldn't help but look forward to her future life. Food is the most important thing for people. If the food is good, the future life will not be too bad.
There are so many types of breakfast that choosing becomes a problem, especially for He Yan, who wants to eat this and that and wishes to have them all at once.
Su Ting said, "Just pick the one you like the most. We'll take turns eating them later and try to try all the breakfasts within a week."
He Yan finally made up his mind: "Then I want to have Shengjian and a serving of tofu pudding."
"Okay, one serving of Shengjian and one serving of tofu pudding," Su Ting turned around and asked, "Do you want sweet or salty tofu pudding?"
"It's salty, right?" He had never tasted it before and wanted to try it.
"One serving of salted tofu pudding with toppings, one serving of foot wraps, an egg and fried dough sticks, and two cups of soy milk," Su Ting said, then raised her head and asked He Dongchuan, "What do you want to eat?"
"Just some noodles."
Su Ting turned around and said, "One serving of noodles with minced meat."
Upon hearing this, the lady at the window repeated the breakfast that Su Ting had ordered. The shengjian, tofu pudding and soy milk were all ready and could be served to them directly. The foot wraps and noodles had to be made freshly. The lady at the window wrote a list for them and asked them to wait by the side.
After getting the list, they didn't wait at the window. There happened to be a vacant long table on the first floor, so they sat there with their two children.
As soon as he sat down, He Yan scooped up the salted tofu pudding and took a sip.
As soon as He Yan took a bite of the tofu pudding, his face wrinkled into a ball. He leaned back and looked down at the tofu pudding in front of him with disgust: "It tastes weird."
The dispute over sweet and salty tofu pudding has been going on for a long time. As soon as Su Ting heard it, she knew that he must not be used to drinking it. She pushed the soy milk in front of He Yan and said, "If you are not used to eating tofu pudding, then drink soy milk."
"What about the tofu pudding?" He Yan looked at the tofu pudding in front of him in embarrassment, afraid that it would be wasted.
"I'll drink it."
"It tastes so bad." He Yan said without much confidence. If he had known this, he would not have ordered it.
Su Ting thought to herself that it was a good thing that she was not a fan of salty tofu pudding, otherwise she would have to argue with He Yan about which tofu pudding tasted better. But now, she just reached out to take the bowl, scooped a spoonful of tofu pudding into her mouth and said, "I think it's pretty good, not bad."
Seeing that his mother did not look embarrassed, He Yan picked up the soy milk and took a sip.
At this time, the soy milk is freshly ground, and the taste is a bit rough, but also mellow, with the aroma of beans. Most importantly, the soy milk is sweet because it contains sugar.
He Yan narrowed his eyes and said to his sister, "Soy milk tastes good."
Man Man also had a cup of soy milk in front of her, but she didn't touch it until she heard her brother's words. Then she took a sip and nodded: "It tastes good."
While the brother and sister were tasting the soy milk, the foot wraps and noodles were ready, so Su Ting and He Dongchuan went to get them.
Su Ting had traveled to Shanghai in her previous life and had eaten foot wraps there. She thought that the appearance of this thing was a bit similar to the pancake, and the taste was similar, with the crust being fragrant and crispy. But she heard that the ingredients were different, but her ability to distinguish food was limited, so she couldn't really taste it.
Like the pancake, the foot wrap is also cut into two halves after it is made and wrapped in greaseproof paper. Looking from the cross section, the outermost layer is the golden crust, with vegetables, eggs and fried dough sticks sandwiched inside in order. The colors are clearly layered and it looks very appetizing.
As soon as the foot binding was brought over, the two children raised their heads and looked at them with fixed gazes.
Su Ting took half and gave it to Man Man, then asked He Yan: "Do you want to eat?"
Having just exchanged drinks with his mother, He Yan was too embarrassed to exchange breakfast with her, so he shook his head and said, "No." After thinking about it, he added, "I can eat it tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll buy it for you tomorrow." Su Ting said as she took a bite.
The foot wraps not only look layered in color, but also have a nice texture. The crust is crispy, the eggs are smooth, and the fried dough sticks are sizzling with oil, but the vegetables neutralize the greasiness.
Very delicious.
Compared to the foot wraps that Su Ting bought, the noodles that He Dongchuan ordered seemed mediocre, but the portion was large enough to fill his stomach.
After breakfast, they did not rush back to the guesthouse, but took a walk in the business district to digest their food.
There are many shops in the commercial district. Supply and marketing cooperatives, vegetable stations, meat stations, and grain stations are all next to each other, and the things they supply cover all aspects of food, clothing, housing and transportation.
After digesting the food, they wandered back to the guesthouse. As soon as they entered the room, He Dongchuan started to get busy. He had to wash the clothes he had changed in the morning.
While He Dongchuan was busy, Su Ting was counting things in the room, mainly the money and tickets they brought.
Lots of money, but not many tickets.
Before coming here, Su Ting used all the industrial coupons she had saved to buy a few sets of clothes for each of her two children. It is not easy to buy a set of winter clothes suitable for the capital in a department store in Fuzhou, but it is more than enough for the winter in Shanghai.
As for the other miscellaneous tickets, she used them to buy things that were convenient to carry, and exchanged the things that were inconvenient to carry for grain tickets.
Grain coupons were the most valuable in those days. Although she had quite a few on hand, the total weight of the grain coupons she exchanged for was less than ten kilograms, of which six kilograms were local grain coupons.
Local grain coupons could not be used outside the province or city, so she exchanged these six kilograms of grain coupons, together with the twenty or so kilograms of local grain coupons she already had, for national grain coupons.
After all the exchange, she had about 30 kilograms of national grain coupons and 30 kilograms of military grain coupons.
In this era, national ration coupons were considered hard currency. They could be used anywhere and were easy to exchange with others. Military ration coupons were similar. It was hard to say whether they were exchanged outside, but they could be exchanged in the army.
The meat and egg coupons they used to pay for their morning meals were exchanged for grain coupons from the staff at the guesthouse.
However, the staff of the guesthouse also need to eat and drink, and the tickets that can be exchanged are limited. After today, until their household registration is completed, their whole family may have to eat vegetarian food.
Thinking of this, Su Ting looked up and asked He Dongchuan who had just come in after hanging up the clothes: "When are you going to report?"
"You can go in three days, what's the matter?"
"Then you should go earlier."
He Dongchuan originally thought that Su Ting suddenly asked him about reporting because she had something to do and wanted him to report to the troops later. So when he heard her say that, he was a little puzzled: "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"My family can't even afford meat, how can I not be anxious?" Su Ting asked, and then said, "When you report, ask when our household registration will be issued. I will go to the school later to see if He Yan can go to school first, and then complete the procedures after the household registration is issued."
He Dongchuan: "...Okay, I'll go report it later."
Su Ting nodded: "Then hurry up."
With his wife urging him so urgently, He Dongchuan couldn't delay any longer. He found the information needed for the registration procedures, tidied his clothes a little, kissed Su Ting, and went out.
…
After this trip, He Dongchuan did not come back until dinner time.
In fact, the procedure was completed very quickly. After all, for matters like the transfer of military officers to other professions, there are only a few cases in a month. There is no accumulation of data, so the review is naturally easy.
Although his rank was not high, his position was very important. When the base commander heard that he had come to report, he called him over and had a long talk with him.
After the conversation, he was not allowed to go home. Instead, he was taken to meet the people in the tour group.
In other words, He Dongchuan got to work right away on the first day of reporting. But because it was the first time they met, everyone was very polite, so he was able to rush back for dinner.
But the next few days would definitely not be so smooth. After all, he was transferred from another place. Even though he had just won first place in the competition in the middle of the year, it would not be so easy for the people below to obey him.
So at dinner that night, He Dongchuan explained what needed to be done next: "I have completed the formalities here. Tomorrow you can take your documents to the Military Dependents Resettlement Office to register your residence. Your residence should be registered within a week. By the way, I have received a ticket for the second half of the month, which should be enough for a few days."
He Dongchuan said as he took out a few tickets from his pocket and handed them to Su Ting. She took them and asked after looking at them, "Did you exchange all the food you bought for tickets?"
"Um."
"Then what are you going to eat?" Su Ting took out two meat tickets and two egg tickets and stuffed them into his hands. "Anyway, it's only a week at most. We can't eat that much meat. These are enough."
The tickets were replenished to him on a regular basis. When he went through the resignation process, it was already halfway through the month, and he had received less than half a pound of meat in total, which he ate in two meals. How could he not be able to finish it?
He Dongchuan knew that his wife was worried about him. He said, "Then remember to urge them to settle the household registration as soon as possible. The same goes for the house. I have asked. There are two suitable vacancies, both with three bedrooms, one in building six and one in building ten. When you go to register your household registration tomorrow, ask them. They will arrange someone to take you to see the house. After you decide, just go to them to get the key."
"Okay," Su Ting nodded, and briefly told him what she had done today. "I went to the school to ask, and the principal said that Xiaoyan could go to school first, and he could go to school in person after the formalities were completed. However, the tuition fee must be paid again. I have already paid it today, and he will go to school tomorrow."
When he heard that he had to go to school, He Yan, who had been eating with gusto just now, suddenly became listless. It was not that he did not like going to school. After experiencing the pain of dropping out of school, he never felt that studying was hard again.
He Yan was unsure when he thought about facing new teachers and new classmates after going to school. He felt that he really needed someone to comfort him and have a heart-to-heart talk with him.
So that night, when He Dongchuan came back to his room after washing clothes, he saw two extra light bulbs on the bed. He was stunned and asked, "Why are you two here?"
Su Ting answered for the two children, "Xiaoyan is going to a new school tomorrow. She is a little worried and wants to talk to us."
He Dongchuan looked at He Yan and said, "It's not like you haven't transferred schools before. You didn't worry about it two years ago. But now you're ten years old, and you've become less courageous?"
"I'm only eight years old." He's not even nine, let alone ten!
"You are two years older than me. Do you think there is a problem when you are ten years old?"
He Yan pursed his lips: "No."
"That's it. When you were six, you weren't afraid of transferring schools. Now you're ten, and you're worried to the point of not being able to sleep. Are you ashamed?"
He Yan felt something was not right. Since he was only six years old two years ago, shouldn't he be eight years old now? If we count according to his virtual age, wasn't he eight years old two years ago?
Why did my dad say age in years first and then said age in years in virtual years?
He Yan thought so and asked the question, but He Dongchuan did not answer. He only said, "Regardless of your real age or imaginary age, you were not afraid when you were five or six, and now you are ten, so you should not be afraid."
He Yan was a child who cared about his reputation. Hearing his father call him timid and scared, he became unhappy and said, "I'm not scared. I just couldn't sleep."
"Oh, I'm so scared that I can't sleep." He Dongchuan said in a light tone.
"I'm not afraid!"
He Dongchuan chuckled: "If you're not afraid, why do you insist on sleeping with us? If you take your sister back to your room now, I'll believe you're not afraid."
"I'll go back if I want!" He Yan was so angry that his head was hot. He immediately stood up from the quilt, put on his shoes and was about to go out.
But before he walked out, his father's voice came from behind him: "Bring your sister with you."
He Yan turned his head and saw his father taking his sleeping sister out of the quilt and putting her in his arms. He hurriedly hugged his sister, but before he raised his head, he heard his father say, "You can go home now. Remember to cover your sister with a blanket at night, so she doesn't catch a cold."
He Yan walked out mechanically with his sister in his arms. He didn't come to his senses until he heard the door closing behind him. He looked down at his sister in his arms, then turned around to look at the closed door.
That's not right!
Wasn't he planning to sleep with his parents? Why did he come out with his sister?
