Neither of them fared well after falling off the cliff.

Looking at the bleeding wound, she felt unwell and wanted to find something to bandage it. But looking around, she found nothing to cover the wound, and her clothes were all wet.

She frowned and sighed, as if the wet clothes bandaging the wound were bad for her.

She looked up and suddenly noticed a dark-colored tattered cloth hanging from the treetop, probably torn when it fell. She turned to look for pebbles, thinking that knocking the cloth down shouldn't be a problem.

She aimed carefully and threw it with all her might. It just grazed the cloth, passed through the green leaves, and landed elsewhere. Not satisfied, she threw a few more pieces up there.

After much effort, she finally managed to knock it down. She quickly took it to bandage his leg, but found there was nothing to hold the cloth in place. Luckily, there was a hemp rope around her waist, which she removed with some difficulty.

Peng Feizhe vaguely felt pain in his calf, gasped in pain, and slowly opened his eyes. The blinding light pierced through the layers of green leaves, extremely glaring and uncomfortable. He felt pain all over his body, and even getting up was difficult.

Li Xingxiao had just finished tying the ropes when she noticed his movements and quickly asked, "General, you're awake!"

"Hmm...where is this? Help me up." He was a little weak and tried to raise his hand to shield his eyes from the dappled sunlight, but he couldn't muster much strength and had to close his eyes.

"Okay." She quickly supported the back of his neck, slowly helped him sit up, and then let him lean against her.

"General, you're injured. Don't move around too much, or the wound will reopen," she said worriedly.

"Cough...cough cough...it's alright." He rested his head on Li Xingxiao's shoulder, his eyes closed and his face showing discomfort.

He held his breath and took out a long, thin wooden tube from his waist, along with a traction rope.

"Pull it open," he said, as if barely clinging to life.

She frowned sharply and said sternly, "General, do you want to die? What are you doing setting off fireworks in broad daylight? Trying to summon the higher-ups down?"

How could she not understand this thing? Isn't this cigarette smoke?

"There are people around here... pull away. Someone will come to get me... hurry..." He endured the pain and fainted.

Helpless, she had to first lay the person down flat, find a flat spot without too many leaves to cover them, and then use her free hand to pull the wooden tube.

Whoosh—

With a whoosh, the red flame burst out of the tube, flew into the sky and burst open with a loud bang.

This sound made Li Xingxiao even more apprehensive, mainly because it was so eye-catching. Perhaps not all the people upstairs had left yet, and with only two people and her alone, how could she possibly defeat them?

Suddenly a voice shouted, "Damn it, those two bastards aren't dead!"

She immediately panicked, her adrenaline surged, and she quickly turned around, picked up Peng Feizhe, and started walking. They couldn't go very far, so she had no choice but to hide in a dense patch of grass.

However, because Peng Feizhe was probably quite heavy and tall, she had a lot of trouble carrying him and walked very slowly.

She really wanted to curse.

“I told you not to set off fireworks, but you still did! If you want to die quickly, you have to drag someone down with you, Peng Feizhe... ha... ha..." She cursed as she carried the person, panting heavily and getting even more tired: “Why did my dad choose you? You’re really suffering.”

The sound of rapid footsteps grew louder and louder; they were almost there!

She panicked even more; she didn't want to die here like this. But abandoning this person seemed like a way to reduce the burden, and she struggled with this thought for a few seconds.

She chose to abandon him and run away!

Just as she was about to throw it down, several men in black suddenly appeared in front of her. Her hair stood on end in fright, and her heart pounded with tension.

They saw Peng Feizhe on her body, and one of the leaders said, "Take your master back to recover from her injuries." Then they heard the sound of people chasing after her, and the leader of the men in black said to the men behind him, "Kill them all."

Li Xingxiao swallowed hard, her mind blank.

The leader of the men in black noticed her nervousness and knew she was probably quite injured, and carrying his master on her back was no easy task. Just as he was about to remove Peng Feizhe from her, she suddenly slumped forward.

Peng Feizhe and he both collapsed.

Then, the men in black killed all their pursuers and took the two back to the county town, to a small, dilapidated courtyard.

The courtyard contained two houses, surrounded by a small wall. One house was large, and the other small. Other residents lived nearby. Just outside the gate was a typical, unremarkable street.

This is no different from ordinary houses, but it's much better than the village.

The first to wake up was Li Xingxiao. She got up early and looked around the room. She put her index finger slightly bent to her lips and fell into deep thought.

He was a famous general, how come he lives in such a desolate place?

She lived in the smaller room; the larger room was naturally for Peng Feizhe. She looked at the person guarding the entrance to the larger room. We looked at each other.

The three looked at each other, saying nothing. She turned and sat on the stone bench under the tree, drinking water from the marble table. She couldn't go anywhere now, and no one was talking to her.

The two men guarding the main house raised their hands to stop her as she tried to leave, but she remained silent when they spoke to her. How could she not be bored?

Squeak—

Suddenly the door opened, and the leader walked out.

He immediately spotted Li Xingxiao, who was drinking water, and said, "The master wants you to come in."

“…Oh.” She could only respond indifferently.

She entered the room, which was filled with an unpleasant smell of medicine. She frowned, pinched her nose, and walked in, stopping at Peng Feizhe, who was leaning against the headboard. He had already finished bandaging himself and was dressed in a white nightgown with a cold expression.

"What does the general want with me?"

He looked at her, his brows suddenly furrowing with an inexplicable seriousness, his attention completely focused on her face.

"Your... appearance has changed a bit?" he said these words out of the blue.

"?" She raised her hand and touched her face.

She couldn't feel anything, nor did she know what had been wiped off her face. It was probably wiped off when she fell off the cliff into the river.

Her mind raced, and she scratched the back of her head with a grin: "General, are you perhaps confused? I've always been like this."

"I'm not going to talk to you about this anymore." He was too lazy to waste his breath arguing with her; he felt somewhat powerless.

"I heard everything that happened after the fall. Even in your dying moments, you carried me to safety. What did you want?"

"Huh?...Ah...this." She was at a loss for words after hearing this.

Actually, she had wanted to leave him behind for a while, but she didn't expect him to arrive so quickly.

"I've inquired about you. During your time with Pang Zhichun, you fell in love with her personal maid. After she found out, she sold you to a mountain stronghold to do hard labor. But unexpectedly, you're doing quite well there. Do you want her?"

"Huh?" She was stunned and blinked.

He was somewhat annoyed and wanted to know the answer quickly: "Huh? What?"

"General, what... what do you mean by this?" She looked at him with some unease.

"You've done a good job," he said calmly.

"This..." She didn't know what to say.

Peng Feizhe remembered that when they were in the village, Li Xingxiao struggled to find true love because of her appearance. He could probably understand what she needed most: more than achieving great things, she probably wanted a lover by her side.

"General, this..." She was still somewhat embarrassed and didn't know how to say it.

“I am engaged to Miss Pang and will marry her. Her maid will also be coming to the manor. You advised me in the village and did not abandon me when I was about to die. Why don’t I give this maid to you? What do you think?” He looked at her.

"This... Miss Pang... I'm afraid you won't agree." A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, and she raised her hand to scratch her cheek, her words stammering.

"With me here, there's no need to worry so much. Wouldn't it be a good thing to become a couple? Miss Pang, I'm sure you wouldn't disagree."

...

You just reward me like that? You didn't even ask me first. Do you really think I'm one of your own?

She smiled stiffly and bowed in gratitude: "Haha...ha, then this humble servant thanks the general for the reward! I will certainly treat her well!"

"Okay, you can go now." He nodded in satisfaction, in a good mood.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, she turned back and asked, "General... when will you be getting married? I'll go and offer my congratulations."

He pondered for a moment, then rested his chin on his slightly bent index finger and hesitated for a while before saying, "Hmm...we'll get married in mid-July."

"Then I must go and offer my blessings to the General!"

"Um."

The two fell into a deathly silence.

"Aren't you leaving yet?" He frowned, displeased, and glanced at her sideways.

"General, may I go out now?"

"?" He frowned, somewhat puzzled. "You want to go out? Why are you asking me?"

She spoke in a humble, somewhat aggrieved tone, "General, it's your... people who wouldn't let me out. So... I came to ask..."

"Oh, is there anything else?" Seeing that she still hadn't left, she stood there blankly with her head down, not daring to look at him, like a child who had made a mistake.

She mustered her courage and asked timidly, "General, could you lend me... some money?"

"?"

"I don't have any money... to buy anything."

He just wanted to get rid of this guy as soon as possible! His face was clouded with gloom.

"Luo Pu!" he called out.

The man in black, who was in charge, walked in and bowed respectfully to Peng Feizhe. "What are your orders, Master?"

He couldn't lift his hand, probably afraid that lifting it would aggravate his wound, and looked at Li Xingxiao with some impatience.

"Give this guy some money and let him go out and buy something."

"Yes." He looked at Li Xingxiao, "Come out with me and don't disturb the master."

"Okay." She obediently followed Luo Pu out.

Outside, Li Xingxiao happily went out after receiving the money. Luo Pu was called back in; the small room housed one master and one servant.

His face immediately turned cold: "Go follow that guy. If he makes contact with the village, kill him."

"yes."
