Chapter 33
No one saw clearly what Bai Nan did. It wasn't until the boy cried out in pain that everyone came to their senses.
Bai Nan stood calmly in front of the boy, who was bent over like a shrimp, clutching his stomach and groaning.
"What?! A 1.7-meter guy fighting a 1.8-meter guy?"
"Looks pretty strong, but so fragile? Just one punch..."
"Why are you hitting people like that?!"
There were all sorts of opinions among the group, but not a single one wanted to avenge him. Only one girl from Class One mustered the courage to question Bai Nan.
Bai Nan took a step back to create a safe distance, then turned to look at the girl and said, "Sorry, it was an accident."
Everyone was stunned by her quick and decisive apology, and fell silent. The boy, having recovered, yelled and rushed forward.
"I'll fuck you—!"
However, before he could utter the word "Mom," Bai Nan calmly dodged to the side, but he himself staggered a few steps due to inertia.
His face was grim, and he turned around angrily: "Damn it—"
The moment the curse word left his mouth, Bai Nan interrupted him: "Don't be so hasty. I accidentally bumped into you. I apologize."
Before he could react, she turned around and pointed to a girl in the corner: "Excuse me, please don't take pictures without permission. If you must, please take a full picture and record all their faces. Thank you."
The girl who was hiding her phone nodded, looking confused. "Huh? Oh, okay."
Upon hearing this, the group of people let out a soft cry, covered their faces, and fled through the back door.
The boy was left alone, along with two girls from Class 1, standing there in a daze, watching Bai Nan return to his seat.
"Holy crap, is he that handsome?" The other girls in the class started whispering among themselves, and one of the bolder ones said directly to Bai Nan, "Bai Di is so handsome!"
Back in her seat, Bai Nan felt a little embarrassed.
In the past, when helping Bai Di deal with the bullies, it was always outside of school. Everyone would find a corner to exchange a few words, maybe you'd punch me a couple of times, and I'd kick you a couple of times back. Basically, no one would see it.
At this moment, Huang Wang patted the back of her chair and whispered a thank you.
Bai Nan scratched the back of his head and waved his hand awkwardly: "It's nothing."
She hadn't encountered this kind of conflict in a long time, so she was a bit rusty and didn't know if she had hit him too hard. But judging from the boy's groans, it must have been quite severe.
Once anger subsides, it's hard to reignite.
The boy had no choice but to leave dejectedly, and the two girls who were with him could only sit down looking pale as well.
There weren't many witnesses to this incident, so it didn't attract much attention. Everyone continued to attend classes, eat, and sleep as usual. Except for the occasional glances at Bai Di that showed a few more hints of admiration, everything else was normal.
A week passed quickly. During Saturday evening self-study, Zeng Li announced some important news to the class: Sunday was a day off!
Everyone immediately cheered and jumped for joy, their voices loud enough to lift the floorboards on the second floor. Zeng Li immediately raised his hand, and the crowd gradually quieted down.
"Alright, many classes aren't getting a holiday, so keep a low profile, shh." Zeng Li winked at them, and the whole class immediately got it and winked back.
Throughout the evening self-study session, everyone was immersed in the excitement of having a holiday tomorrow, which made Zeng Li full of regret. He should have known to announce it after the evening self-study session.
As soon as the grueling evening self-study session ended, the students in Class One cheered loudly and packed their bags with swift, efficient movements.
These past few days, Huang Wang has started going to and from get out of class with Bai Nan again, and going to the cafeteria with Bai Lu and Chen Shu, so the four of them are together.
"Wow! Our teacher is a real bodhisattva! No way, you guys should all pray to him too, maybe he'll be free next week!"
Chen Shu clasped her hands together with a devout expression and bowed three times in the direction the teacher had left. Not satisfied with that, she insisted on dragging the three of them along with her.
Bai Nan couldn't refuse her, so she bowed three times as well, but what she was thinking about was her true Bodhisattva—Xu Xin.
I don't know if he'll go back to the Bai Lu family. It's only one day, and if he does go back, time will be very tight.
"Bai Di, Brother Xin is looking for you."
As soon as Zeng Li left, Bai Lu bent down and fiddled with his phone. After handing the phone to Bai Nan, he was being pulled by Chen Shu to pray to the Buddha.
Bai Nan took the phone and walked to a quiet corner before speaking.
"Hello?"
"Nannan, want to go out for a late-night snack?"
Xu Xin's voice, processed through the earpiece, sounded even more magnetic, as if it were speaking right next to her ear, making her ears burn.
"Now?...Where to?"
"Yes, a small dinner party."
After hanging up the phone, Bai Nan rubbed her itchy ears before walking back to the three of them.
"What did Brother Xin say?" Bai Lu was a little curious. Brother Xin had rejected his invitation to go home, but instead specifically sought out Bai Di to talk about something.
"Uh, they want me to go outside the school." Bai Nan touched the tip of her nose; she wasn't exactly lying.
"Oh? That's perfect! We were just thinking of going out for a late-night snack, shall we go together?" Chen Shu said, pulling Bai Di along as they walked out, with Huang Wang and Bai Lu following behind.
"No, no need. I need to go back to my dorm first. You guys go ahead." Bai Nan quickly pulled her arm away.
Upon hearing this, Chen Shu had no choice but to let go: "Alright, then we'll be going now."
"Okay, bye-bye."
Bai Nan waved goodbye to them, then turned and went downstairs.
After she turned around, Huang Wang glanced back at her back, then lowered his head and followed Chen Shu.
She went back to her dorm to change her clothes, and felt very awkward leaving the school in her school uniform.
After searching through the entire wardrobe, Bai Di couldn't find a single item that looked even remotely appealing. His aesthetic sense was just too typical of a straight man; aside from his pajamas and pajama bottoms, which were cartoon-style, everything else consisted of oversized t-shirts paired with shorts or sweatpants.
Just as Bai Nan was at her wit's end, a corner of the balcony suddenly came into view, with a white shirt on the clothes rack.
It belongs to Xu Xin.
When Bai Nan finished changing her clothes, grabbed her phone, and left the dormitory, there were only forty-five minutes left before the doors locked.
She hurried downstairs and ran all the way to the school gate.
This restaurant, A Xiaofanju, is a modified Hunan cuisine restaurant. The taste is more in line with the locals, and the location is close to No. 1 Middle School, so many teachers will book its private rooms for group meals.
The navigation showed that she was only a few hundred meters away from Bai Nan. After confirming her direction, she started running again.
Although it wasn't far, she had just recovered from a cold, so she was still a little out of breath when she stopped.
Standing at the store entrance, Bai Nan calmed his breathing and wiped the sweat from his forehead. The weather was getting cooler, and the thin layer of sweat felt cold as soon as it came into contact with the air.
After doing all that, she pushed open the glass door and went inside.
"Hello, do you have an appointment?" The waiter came over to guide us as we entered.
"Yes, Qiancheng Hall."
The restaurant's main customers are teachers and students from No. 1 Middle School, so the names of the private rooms are particularly creative, mostly names like "future prospects," "good fortune," and "promotion."
Although she didn't know why he had to book a private room for just her and Xu Xin, she was never one to meddle and didn't bother to ask.
Following behind the waiter, Bai Nan turned three or four corners and passed through private rooms of different sizes, most of which were quite lively and filled with the cheers of students.
As they went deeper, the atmosphere gradually quieted down, with only occasional whispers and the clinking of cups and saucers.
"We've arrived. Enjoy your meal."
After the waiter left, Bai Nan pushed open the door to the private room, and the first thing she saw was Xu Xin, who was smiling.
Hearing the commotion, he looked up at Bai Nan, then naturally stood up, left the main seat, and walked towards her.
As the door opened completely, the middle-aged man sitting to the left of the main seat opened his eyes and looked at her. In just one glance, the temperature in the entire private room seemed to drop several degrees.
Bai Nan was somewhat surprised; the man's clothes were quite similar to those of Daoist Huang Qi.
After closing the door tightly, Xu Xin pulled her to sit down on his right.
"Nannan, this is Daoist Huang Li, who is... Daoist Huang Qi's senior brother." After introducing the middle-aged man, he turned to introduce Bai Nan to him.
"Master, this is Bai Nan."
All the dishes on the round table were served: two cold dishes and four hot dishes. The air conditioner in the private room was also humming with frequency conversion.
It should have been warm, but Bai Nan felt a chill instead.
She didn't understand why Xu Xin hadn't informed her beforehand. Even if he wanted to help her switch bodies, he should have done so with both of them knowing.
Instead of being completely bewildered as she is now.
The Taoist priest didn't say a word, but simply pointed to the dishes on the table. Bai Nan didn't understand what he meant, but Xu Xin did.
"Nannan, let's eat first." He picked up a piece of beef for her with his chopsticks before eating his own.
Bai Nan wanted to find a moment to go to the restroom to ask Xu Xin, but they ate so quickly that they didn't give her a chance.
In the blink of an eye, she was the only one left holding chopsticks. After a pause, she put down her chopsticks and sat up straight.
At this point, the Taoist priest finally spoke his first words of the night.
"Huang Qi, you didn't die in vain."
That one short sentence was enough to silence Bai Nan.
Then he added, "Fear not, it will resolve itself in six months."
Bai Nan didn't understand, so she turned to look at Xu Xin, only to see him smiling with sparkling diamonds in his peach blossom eyes.
"Thank you, Daoist Master," Xu Xin said.
After the Taoist priest left, the two were left facing each other.
"Nannan, the curse on you is mostly gone." Xu Xin was very happy. He had specially asked someone in Taipei to find the Taoist priest who was involved in the case back then.
When the Taoist priest didn't rush to perform his magic but chose to eat first, he knew she was alright.
"I don't understand. What will happen in six months?" Bai Nan asked, puzzled. She couldn't understand how a meal together could solve the problem.
Xu Xin pulled her up and said mysteriously, "You'll find out when we get back to the dorm."
The two then returned to school. As they approached their dorm room, the doors were locked, and downstairs, there were many couples chatting amongst themselves.
There aren't many couples like them, both young men.
Just before entering the dormitory building, Xu Xin suddenly stopped, and Bai Nan paused for a moment before also stopping.
"Nan Nan." His voice was very low, even softer than the sounds of the couples around them.
The motion-sensor light at the building entrance went out after a period of silence.
Suddenly plunged into darkness, with sight deprived, other senses become acutely acute.
She sensed the person in front of her slowly approaching, and felt her head instinctively tilt back. At the same time, her most sensitive area was actually her waist.
Because there was a long, warm hand resting on it.
Her breathing stopped abruptly, and a surge of electricity seemed to rise from her tailbone all the way to the top of her head, leaving her brain blank.
Just then, a gentle breath brushed against my ear, followed by a deep voice with a hint of laughter.
"This shirt looks great on you..."
