Chapter 6

Chapter 6

"Sister...how did I turn into a woman?"

Bai Di looked terrified.

When Bai Nan saw him staring at her chest, she immediately slapped him: "Don't look like that!"

He rubbed the back of his head and said aggrievedly, "Sis, be gentle, this is your own body after all."

"......" That's absolutely infuriating.

I broke down twice in a row early this morning, and I couldn't control my swearing at all.

"Knock knock knock"

"Nan-jie, are you up yet? Get ready to go down for breakfast."

Bai Lu's voice rang out from outside the door.

"Hey? Brother Xin, are you done washing up?"

"Um."

"Then you can go down first, I'll wait for Bai Nan."

A sound of footsteps faded into the distance.

"Sister Nan?"

Bai Lu was still calling out; he knew that Bai Nan always got up early and never slept in.

"Click—" The door opened.

"Nan-jie! You haven't washed up yet?"

"Um...you can go down first," Bai Di said, forcing himself to speak.

"It's okay, I'll wait for you." Bai Lu said and squeezed into the room, but when he looked up, he saw this guy 'Bai Di'.

"Bai Di? What are you doing here?" He was surprised, as Bai Nan usually wouldn't let Bai Di into the room.

"Uh... I... um, my sister called me." Bai Nan almost let it slip.

"...Sister Nan?" Bai Lu looked at Bai Di in confusion, not understanding what had happened between the two, and felt that the atmosphere was strange.

"Bai... Bai Lu, you go down first. We'll come over later. We have... something to do." Bai Di said this with trepidation, fearing that he might accidentally give himself away.

Bai Lu scratched the back of his head, at a loss for what to do, so he could only nod and go downstairs first.

"call--"

Once the person left, the two breathed a sigh of relief.

Bai Nan closed the door and turned around, her eyes filled with warning: "No matter what caused things to turn out this way, since we can't change it for the time being, we must first play our roles well and not mess around!"

"I...I just did everything you said...You have to promise that we'll switch back as soon as possible!" Bai Di said anxiously.

First floor, restaurant.

When they went downstairs, Bai Lu was chatting enthusiastically with a girl, while Xu Xin sat alone on the side, quietly drinking her sweet pumpkin porridge.

"Sister Nan!" Bai Lu immediately invited her to sit down when he saw her come down.

Bai Di looked at Bai Nan with pleading eyes. She frowned slightly, and he could only sit down bitterly.

After Bai Di sat down, the seats there were full, so Bai Nan had no choice but to sit next to Xu Xin.

"Sister Nan, let me introduce you. This is Xu Yuan from Southern University of Science and Technology. He's really awesome."

Bai Lu introduced the girl next to Bai Di.

"Hello, my name is Xu Yuan, I'm a sophomore, you can call me Sister Yuanyuan." She said with a smile, looking very cheerful.

"Hello, Sister Yuanyuan." Bai Di stammered as he greeted her.

"Sister Nan, what's wrong? Are you still feeling unwell?" Bai Luyue felt something was off. When did Bai Nan become so... 'sleazy'?

Upon hearing this, Bai Nan immediately perked up, and Bai Lu became suspicious.

No, we have to think of a way!

"Uh... Xiao Lu, my sister is indeed not feeling well and needs to go upstairs to rest for a while, right, sis?" She quickly winked at Bai Di.

To everyone's surprise, Bai Di kept staring at the seafood porridge on the table and didn't hear what she was saying at all.

"Sister!" she raised her voice.

"Bai Di, if you want to go upstairs to rest, just say so. Why are you dragging Sister Nan along?" Bai Lu yelled at Bai Nan, annoyed by Bai Di's outburst.

Bai Di finally came to his senses, but the next second he looked at Bai Nan with a pitiful expression.

He had absolutely no awareness of his own role.

Having grown up in a family that favored sons over daughters, he simply couldn't learn to play the roles that adults liked or that he should assume at a certain age with utmost care and consideration.

She overestimated him.

"I'm done eating, you guys continue." Xu Xin suddenly got up and left his seat, instantly breaking the eerie atmosphere.

"Sister Nan, would you like some seafood porridge?" Bai Lu pushed the bowl of porridge in front of Bai Di with a concerned expression.

Xu Yuan, standing next to him, looked like she'd just been hit over the head, burying her head in her tofu pudding and continuing to eat.

"Sister Yuanyuan, what did you study?"

Bai Nan completely gave up on Bai Di and turned to ask Xu Yuan. A year later, she also planned to apply to Southern University of Science and Technology, but she hadn't decided on a specific major.

"Oh, oh, you're asking me? I majored in software engineering, specializing in game design and development." Xu Yuan looked up in alarm, with an expression of someone caught red-handed.

Bai Nan's eyes lit up.

"What? Are you interested?" Xu Yuan asked.

After the meal, the group returned to their rooms.

Bai Lu claimed he needed to catch up on some sleep, but Xu Yuan followed him around, saying she wanted to use his computer to play games.

Xu Xin was nowhere to be seen, so Bai Nan quickly pulled Bai Di back to her room.

"If you keep acting so irresponsibly, we're doomed sooner or later!" she warned him in a low voice, her words tinged with obvious anxiety.

"...Sister, there's no need for that. I feel like even if you tell them directly, they won't believe you."

Bai Di said nonchalantly, "After all, body swapping is too far-fetched. So what if we get caught? Are they going to call the police and arrest us?"

"Moreover, even Bai Lu, who knows you best, didn't notice anything unusual, so it's even less likely that anyone else would..."

Bai Di's words were like a bucket of cold water, instantly sobering her up.

Yes, what am I anxious about?

Most people see others as merely NPCs in a fixed guise. They only recognize this guise and don't care whether the soul beneath has changed, let alone what the reason for such a change is.

To them, Bai Nan was a woman and Bai Di was a man, nothing more.

If they don't tell anyone, no one will ever find out.

Perhaps when Bai Lu belatedly realizes that 'Bai Nan' has changed, he will still find a reason in his heart that 'everyone changes' to convince himself.

Can...

Why is she so anxious?

It's as if there's a very strong voice inside me, constantly admonishing me:

【You are Bai Nan!】

Never forget who you are!

The voice sounds like her, yet it doesn't sound like her.

It carried a hint of sharpness.

This caused her pain, anxiety, and a deep sense of unease.

Even just watching Bai Di sit down with his own body, speak with his own voice, and make a frowning expression with his own face.

These things all make her very irritable.

She couldn't accept Bai Di making expressions and movements that Bai Nan would never do, which made her even more anxious.

This intense feeling of unease made her distrust her current environment, and she desperately needed to 'play' Bai Di's role to alleviate this anxiety.

Simply losing control of one's own body seems to mean...

She lost herself.

"Sis, I don't want to act with them, especially Bai Lu. Just looking at his face annoys me."

Bai Di muttered something, but Bai Nan didn't hear a word he said.

She suddenly didn't understand herself anymore. The conclusion that she had 'lost herself' made her brain nerves twitch, and a stinging pain spread throughout her body.

The room fell completely silent.

"Sister Nan!"

"Are you there? Sister Yuanyuan needs your help to pass a level." Bai Lu called to her from outside the door.

But she couldn't reply; she could only gesture to Bai Di with her eyes.

But Bai Di was clearly unwilling to cooperate.

Seeing that he seemed unwilling to face Bai Lu, she suddenly had an idea.

"Nannan, may I call you that?" Xu Yuan gave up her seat and said to Bai Di.

He sat down expressionlessly and replied to her expressionlessly, "Mm."

"Great, this is the level! I just can't get past this big blue guy, it's so frustrating!" she said angrily, pointing at the computer screen.

Bai Nan stood behind Bai Di, feeling a pang of regret.

She thought it was a Switch game, but it turned out to be an action role-playing game.

This happens to be Bai Di's weak point; his skills aren't good enough, so he definitely won't be able to get through it.

"Bai Di, come here." Bai Lu beckoned from the bed.

Bai Nan saw the handheld console next to him and understood that he didn't want Bai Di to cause trouble, so he offered to let him play the Switch.

"Here you go, didn't you want to play Zelda?"

The moment the words left his mouth, Bai Nan knew he was doomed.

Turning around, he saw Bai Di staring longingly at the Switch, completely ignoring the monkey on the computer screen.

"......"

"Wow! Xiao Di, you're so amazing?! You only died three times and you passed!" Xu Yuan was pleasantly surprised. She had been stuck for three whole days, but she passed it so easily.

Bai Nan sat blankly in front of the computer, staring at the screen with "{Defeat·Ghost}" without feeling a trace of excitement.

She had wanted to play this game for a long time, but she didn't even have a mobile phone, let alone a computer.

But now that she can play it so easily, she can't say she's happy.

"Sister Nan! Are you still not feeling well? Didn't you help me fight the people in this initial plateau last time?"

Bai Lu's question sent a chill down her spine.

"Um... I'm not feeling well today," Bai Di stammered.

"That's right—" Bai Lu clearly didn't believe this explanation.

"Buzzing"

Just as the atmosphere turned sour, Bai Di's wristwatch suddenly vibrated.

Hello?

He answered the phone immediately without even looking at who was calling.

"Bai Nan! Get down here right now!"

"Are you waiting for me to come pick you up in a sedan chair?! Get down here and get to work!"

With a beep, the call ended.

The air inside the room seemed to freeze instantly.

A few seconds later, Bai Nan got up and went out.

Bai Di then realized what was happening and quickly followed behind him.

"Xiao Lu, is that her mother over there?"

After the two left, Xu Yuan cautiously spoke.

Bai Lu sighed inwardly and nodded silently.

Although he kept urging Bai Nan to resist them, he also knew that how could a minor who couldn't survive independently possibly resist his own parents who gave birth to him?

Just like him, wasn't he also living within the framework set by his grandfather? And once he rebelled...

As soon as the two arrived in the backyard, Huang Ying spotted them with her sharp eyes.

"Bai Nan! Come here right now!"

"You never seem to offer to help me with chores, I'm exhausted!"

Upon seeing Bai Nan, she cried out that she was exhausted, while the several middle-aged women beside her exchanged glances, looking on with amusement.

Bai Di hadn't reacted yet.

Huang Ying's expression changed again when she saw Bai Nan.

"Oh my dear son, what brings you here?" she said to Bai Nan with a smile. "I called your sister down to help out. It's all small stuff, you're not needed."

Seeing this, the older women all pursed their lips to suppress their laughter, their eyes filled with mockery.

"Mom, Mom, I..." Bai Di panicked when he saw that his mother really wanted him to stay and do chores.

"What do you mean, 'I'!" Huang Ying tossed him a box of mourning clothes: "Hurry up and separate these clothes. The first group of people who will be paying their respects will be here soon, so don't try to slack off!"
